Security System Reviews: Protect Your Home And Family With The Best Security Systems, Cameras And Equipment Available Today!

I'm currently rank 6 in Google for my keyword which gets 22,000 searches per month.

I think I need more pictures on the first page. Should I change to a static page? Also gonna get a custom banner soon.

I'm gonna set up some list building tools soon with Aweber.

I get about 8-12 uniques a day, but only get about 1 or 2 clicks a day and hardly ever sales.

Any thoughts appreciated.

That's a decent layout. I agree...more pictures on the main page. Maybe a header that describes why it's vital to get a security system. Maybe some crime statistics.

FYI: Time Warner is entering the security system market. I think they will become a major competitor in many areas.

PS: Security Systems are a VERY competitive market. It's due to the actual security business (like my friends business) promoting online - not retail sales of security systems.

Actually, it's not that competitive at all. I'm doing an SEO campaign for a friend who has an online security store and the rankings are rather easily obtainable - at least this rings true for the UK market.

If he wasn't my friend i'd be in the home/business security niche already

I definatly recommend a static page. Showing all the posts on the main page looks a bit cluttered and unappealing.

On your reviews, your on page SEO needs improving. The main keyword your targetting should be italicized and underlined, plus be in your first and last sentence. Also make use of the header tags.

Some of your reviews have the image lower down. I recommend putting an image of the product above the fold on every review to potentially increase CTR. Also use multiple images throughout your review, if they are available.

Also consider using a buy now button above the fold to increase CTR.

I agree with cooler1. Also, there seems to be too much white space for each post. Perhaps relocate product image to one side of the post.

Also, you may want to include a MAJOR BENEFIT in your tagline, e.g., Protect Your Family and Peace of Mind with the Best Security System etc...

I agree, there's far too much white space. However when I try to move an image to the side of the text, it only allows one line of text beside the image at the very bottom of the image.

Is there code that will allow me to completely imbed the image in the text, or is it something to do with the amazon image that will not let me completely imbed the image in the text?

    Very nice ideas fellas thanks!

I think I'll switch to a static page then. Have you any suggestions for how I should lay that out? Some statistics as suggested, pictures..links to categories?

A problem I have with writing the reviews is images, there's only 1 image for each product that I can use from amazon..and I emailed support to ask if I could just take the other images and put them on my site without and affiliation link and I was told no. It's a real pain...

I might try get some free stock photos for the home page...

Start by creating a page called security systems and save it. Work on it in your spare time. No need to change to the static page until you have it just the way you want it. Add custom html to it to make it look exactly how you want. link to various posts and pages from this page manually.

Which images do you mean exactly? I've never heard that you can only use 1 product image from Amazon. Maybe support thought you were asking if you could use customer images? Using more than 1 regular image is fine.

I had a look on Amazon at the "Defender SN500-4CH-002". There is 8 images for that product.

For the static page, you should start with an introduction. Explain how a security system will benefit people and give them peace of mind, etc.. Then have a link to each of your reviews with a picture of each product. You should also ensure your home page keyword density for your primary keyword is between 2-4%.

      For statistics, i recommend putting them lower down the site under a header tag. Just an example;

      <h4>Security System Reviews: Vital Statistics</h4>

With crime on the rise in many areas, no home owner is safe. Here Security System Reviews has put together some vital crime statistics to give you the low down on what is happening in your area.

      --------

I had a look at your primary keyword in the keyword tool. It gets only 22,000 broad searches a month and 880 exact searches. It's exact searches you should be looking at. So even if you get to #1, you'll only get around 10-15 visitors per day from this keyword.

home security systems reviews looks a better keyword to target. It has 3,600 exact monthly searches. It has some competition, but looks beatable.

Congrats on getting ranked and I think the site as a whole is good.

However I would add some anchor links in there - these work really well for conversions.

Also make your call to actions a lot stronger.

Why should they buy from your site right now?

Focus on the CTR and you will get more sales but I think it is an awesome start.

LOL It is strange as well - with most of my Amazon sites I made fancy banners, massive CLICK HERE style banners for the best price etc... and the thing that worked best was adding a few anchor links!

        Awesome tip!

Just had a quick look. Somehow I'm rank 14 for "home security system reviews" which isn't too bad considering it didn't even use that as a secondary keyword.

I'm also ranked 13th for a secondary keyword.

Would it be possible to push all these onto the first page, and then try to rank 1-3 for the primary?

Yes! The first page is doable, and even 1-3 are possible with time and effort. While you're building links to your site, consider adding a header that lets your visitors know that your site is about home security. I also think it's a good idea to add lots of images and text links (with good calls to action, like "click here for information" or "click to see the price") in your reviews.

Very nice site. How did you manage to put your affiliate links in the "visit website" images?

The featured reviews section up top is really nice too, I didn't know wordpress was this flexible. What's the name of the theme you bought?

Quite good work with SEO but consider bolding keywords instead of random text. Don't use static page, you can stick a static post but make sure your index page is changing from time to time. Add lifeto your site! It looks like some kind of .edu site from 1990's work work work

It is a different result using SEMRush and Google keyword tool.
Such as keyword "Security System Reviews"
it rank 6 in Google, and it rank 15 in SEMRush.
    Why?

As I know there may be two reasons for this:
      1) semrush results can be obtained from one google datacenter, and you work with another(google has many datacenters)
      2) semrush updates its database once a month, and you may got results for previous month.

On this page, I would remove the image toward the top and move the widget you have at the bottom to the top left at the beginning of the post. Heatmaps have shown that that is the location that people look first to I always try to put my banners and ads in that spot. You did well by making the image an affiliate link but it should be higher on the page in the least. Using the widget or adding a caption to the image will get more attention.

The first thing that hit me when I looked an individual post is that your call to action is not strong enough. For the call to action, I would give a quick synopsis of the benefits of the device and then, with a big blue link, tell them that they can get their device at Amazon and get $50 off.

Would it be overkill to remove the top left image and replace it with the widget, but a little higher, as you suggested. Then also have the widget again toward the bottom of the post where I have it already?

I would think so. You really want to have a strong call to action where you specifically reiterate the benefits of the product and tell people to buy it. I would say that maybe another approach would be to have the widget in the top left, at the end have your call to action, then under that have a large, clickable image of the product above a big blue affiliate link that tells them to get it now.

Move your get discount widget to the top and take everything else out of the sidebar. Get a sitemap and place a link to the sitemap in the footer for the spiders.

You need a contact page, privacy and terms page. Put the link to those pages in the footer as well. Take out the links to your other sites that you have in the footer.

That I'm not sure about. Best bet would be to experiment and if all else fails email affiliate support. There are also far better people on this site to ask than myself!

I'm overwhelmed by the response to this thread, much appreciated! It was admittedly a bad mistake to judge my keywords in a broad search. Lesson Learned.

There's a lot of talk about call to action in this thread, could anyone point me to something in the war room or a thread which would help me to understand this a bit more and learn a bit more about it?

There are a couple of ways to wrap the text. Since you're using the image code directly from Amazon, the way I'd do it is to add "float: left" to the styling of each image.

For example, the iframe Amazon images have code like this:
    <iframe src="LONGSTRINGOFAFFILIATECODE" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe><br />
Add "float: left" to the style string like this:
    <iframe src="LONGSTRINGOFAFFILIATECODE" style="width:120px;height:240px; float: left; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe><br />
The image-only code looks like this:
    <a href="LONGAFFILIATELINK"><img src="IMAGEURL" border="0" alt=""/></a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="IMPRESSIONIMAGEURL" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />
You'd have to add the style string to the img src section like this:
    <a href="LONGAFFILIATELINK"><img src="IMAGEURL" border="0" alt="" style="float: left; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px"/></a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="IMPRESSIONIMAGEURL" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />
The text bumps right up against the image so you have to add padding around it, which I did in the code above.
