The Value Of Pingbacks ?

Hi Members,

I have a Wordpress site and have seen a big increase in pingpacks lately requiring moderation in the comments section and have a question.

I can spot and trash the spammers no problem and comments that ad value to my articles are most appreciated but how much value do pingbacks actually give me when they don't ad anything to my posts ?.

Most of them obviously just ping back the first couple of sentences of my articles and come from other sites which on the surface look ok but what do they actually do for my site/articles value?.

  • Well, just recently there was a very popular WSO that promoted a plugin that indexes your Pingbacks. It, supposedly, should get your more link juice to your website.

    So, i guess, there is some value to pingbacks.
  • Pingbacks are only useful for traffic - if you one of google's blogs from example or techcrunch - you do have a chance of getting some traffic. Regarding juice, I think they hold little value because they can be easily abused!
  • There are lots of automated ways of creating ping-backs, many of them simply trying to create sites full of content without any work (using your content to populate their site). So I view pingbacks with a very sceptical eye!

    None-the-less, I do review them (rather than blanket deleting them) because, occasionally, you'll get a genuine ping back from a quality site and that's always a good thing.

    • Thanks for your replies everyone, much appreciated. I was thinking of deleting any that didn't ad value to the actual post itself but I guess I can be a bit selective and accept the comment as long as it is from a good site,
