Internet Marketing Pioneers: Endangered Species?

There's an old cowboy proverb that says

"Pioneers are the ones with the arrows in their back."

But when it comes to Internet Marketing, it's the pioneers who make the trends, innovations and the major profits (in most cases).

On the other hand, following the crowd is safe and comfortable (nothing wrong with that). But these days by the time the crowd finds out it's usually too late to make the big profits.

So, what's the answer, be a pioneer and risk the cuts, bruises ... or worse!

-Or-

Follow the crowd and settle for the "droppings" the pioneers (who survive)leave behind.

Anyone want to tackle this one?

    just as risky, imho... esp. with low/non-existent barriers to entry
    for competition these days.

      Still thank goodness for the innovators, they take the hits for a lot of people - and even work in the dark for years. They push the rest of us.

    When I first started in internet marketing several years ago, Tony Blake's forum was THE place to be. Believe it or not, the Warrior Forum was just starting up when all the big boys played at the ablake.com forum.

    In those days the big guns (pioneers?) were guys like Marlon Sanders, Carl Galletti the copywriter, Willie Crawford, Joel Comm, John Reese, the first marketer to make a million in a day. and 'ole Gary Halbert would drop in from time to time.

    Too many guns to list...

    Boy those were the glory days!

    I made a few posts there at ablake, but mostly lurked, and learned, and honed my craft from "sitting at the feet" of those pioneers.
