How many websites do you have?

I have three websites right now. I find it hard to devote enough time and money to each of them. So I am going to focus on one right now and then work on the others in the future. How do you divide your time between your sites if you have more than one?

I currently have 93 sites, mostly are built to be automated, but others i outsource the work for very little.

I do however use a so called cheat sheet. What i mean is : i use Microsoft Excel to record every detail and date when any SEO or modificatiosn are made to remember what is done and where.

It's tough to handle many sites but the rewards are outstanding.

Good luck on your own sites.

I also ran up against the same problem you did. My plan is to take 1 domain at a time to the point where I have a streamlined process that can be outsourced.

    OUTSOURCE!

I currently have around 60/70 sites...

Couldn't imagine working on all those by myself, of course your going to need to hire a helping hand as you get more work!

Just like Innow the "Cheat Sheet" works wonders too... so you can keep track of everything! So when you build your team of Outsourcers, just use Google Doc's so everyone has access to it, that way you can keep track of what's been done!

    Simples!

    Hope this helps,

I like the sound of the outsourcing idea.

A question though - assuming some of your websites are very niche and profitable, and the outsource people are tech savvy and in the know so to speak, what stops them from copying your ideas? its one thing having customers access your websites and buy from you, its another to reveal to other programmers what works well and have them copy you. Not saying everyone will do it, just want to know how do you protect yourself and mitigate the risk? Thanks...

I recently saw an ad on Craigslist from someone asking for help setting up wordpress sites. He went on to say he was working for a dude who was having him set up 200 sites a month!

What on earth could he be doing with so many sites?

I own 11 websites, it is not about how many sites you have bit how many is bringing the desired income.

You would want to also know that, not all sites are money sites some can be used for different purpose like redirection, opt in page or others.

Many are wordpress sites, but I also have joomla, classified ad siters, press release websites, article directories, message forums, and so on. I'm a big PHP person since if I ever need to do a quick database or website edit, I can just jump in and do something.

Many of my standard joomla and wordpress sites are strictly adsense and some cpa/ or ebay affiliate sites. Built for information knowledge transfer, but crafted to get people offsite to find more information (through the ads of course).

Not to sound UN-humble, but yes, they do make quite a bit. You also need to factor in outsourcing for content creation/backlinking/server-bandwidth costs as well. It IS like running a business with overhead, projected ROI, cost containment and so forth. Not every site is a winner mind you, some just do not pan out. But the system (my system) and the work that goes into it works pretty well. Can't get discouraged, especially once you realize this is all a number's game.

Far too many here. Lots. I don't know. 50? 75?

Was just discussing this with my business partner and the need to start selling a lot of them off to concentrate a lot more on the sites which are generating much higher streams of revenue.

Got to have a bit of a clear out later this month. Lots of excellent and very highly desirable domain names too. The whole lot are going on sale.

The way we're repositioning ourselves at the moment targeting multi millionaires, there's no point keeping anything which isn't performing as well as it could be. Somebody else might as well take the reins and profit from them.

I currently own just over 100 sites give or take a few. Most of these run on autopilot and I don't have to do much to them they bring me in a steady passive income on a monthly basis. I tend to flip 1 or 2 per week on Flippa and build one for myself per week. Most of my sites are adsense earners some of them have other monetization methods

I use wordpress on all my sites as I love how easy it is to set up and customize.

We have a "Tracking Spreadsheet" we use to keep track of all of our sites, what's been done with them, etc. We currently keep it on a Google Doc, but we're looking at moving them to a CRM in the near future...as soon as we can sit down and plan out the migration!

This has been good for over 800 sites and counting, so should be helpful to most of you. The best part....it's free! No Opt-In required:

        He Patrick,

We made less via AdSense actually, but you're about right. Our average site (when fully earning) is around $10-$11 per month right now...and it takes about 4 months to get "fully earning"

Out of our 800 sites or so, we probably have 350 or so that are "fully earning" and the rest are in various states of getting setup, ranked, etc. About half of our current sites were made in the last 3 months or so...the rest were made from Dec 2010 through June 2011.

            Wow...thanks, PatrickP!

We take a little flak for how many sites we have, how little each site makes on average, why we don't expand each site out, etc...but I just view it as different ways to make it work. Some focus on a couple of major sites, others (Like Spencer from Niche Pursuits) focus on 40-100 sites that are moderately earning...we focus on the lower-end sites and just make a bunch of them!

We don't use any of those auto-tools, we don't use auto-generated or scraped content...just manual sites created the manual way. We have the advantage of owning an outsourcing company which keeps the costs down quite a bit and makes it possible, actually.

If I'm being honest with myself, I do wish I could expand our sites out a bit and get each earning more on average but...we honestly don't know how to do that at scale and I'm definitely not going to go through each one, one by one, and do it. We're planning to build out a "clean-up crew" that will be able to determine and pull sites out of the bunch that have promise and build them out to mini-authority sites, following a set of strict guidelines...we're just not there, yet.

Either Made For AdSense or Made For Advertising, depending on who you ask.

(A site made with the express purpose of being monetised through AdSense or other advertising with very little concern for quality or user-experience.)

Wow really cool to see how many sites some folks are playing with.
Currently i've got just the one proper site, but i have made and sort of manage a few others (maybe 3 or 4)

The setup takes time...lots of time, but if you've got a system and the site is simple i don't see why you couldn't run a good number without needing to outsource.

Personally what i want to do is get one really nice main site, and use it as a kind of hub for a load of smaller Landing Pages, really want to make sure to be offering as much value as possible along the way to my customers.

Right now though i don't even have the free time or focus to get my one site the way i want it lol :S

i currently own one website but my main methods for making income do not rely on my own domain. I use traffic soaked websites to redirect them to somewhere else.

I've noticed a pattern here... There seems to be marketers with between 2 to 10 sites average, and then 50-1000 sites. I suspect that those in the low numbers are actively attempting to do all the work maintaining and building the sites with a more "application" flair to them. These are actual sites with pages and posts, buttons and scripts, functions and things to do/see/read/etc. While at the other end of the spectrum are the automated niche sites created to be more simply landing pages or affiliate review pages, or information/ad-sense pages. These latter are simple, highly automated and exist really to get an affiliate link or part of a funnel.

It shows two general approaches to marketing and I wonder which one is simpler to implement, and which one earns more money.

Great point, David McKee! I think that's a pretty good analysis of the situation..definitely two different camps there.

I think with both groups, there are those who are doing well and those that are not doing well at all. Like you, if we chopped off the bottom 80% or so of earners in both camps, which is the more effective strategy? I really don't have the answer, but would like to know.

My personal PREFERENCE would be 5-10 sites that I'm passionate about, work with on a regular basis, earn more per site, etc...even though I'm in the "other" camp. It's not about it necessarily being "better"...just would be more fun for me, I think, heh.

Lost count but unproductive websites get modified or deleted for good except for a few hobby ones where I don't care whether they make money or not.

Just 1 site and it's a ton of work. I cannot outsource any content since it's a micro niche that is only relevant to those who have been through it (myself included). I can and have now outsourced the graphic design though. I am having my novice psd designs tweaked.

I wish I had outsourced the entire blog set up. That took a long while to complete with setting up the plugins, widgets, auto responders and content.

Last count 73 split between, Gsniper sites, thin sites,WPMage sites between them using epn, (some backed up using skimlinks) amazon, clickbank, CJ, affilaite Window (UK), CPALead and Neveblue ads on a few. Then I have another 3 that I use for testing ideas etc

With some strange niches, cover from stamped concrete patterns to eyelash curls...lol and some not so strange

    All Wordpress bar one
