Do You Remember Your First Sale Online?

I was reading a post from a member that had just made his first sale online and I could almost feel the excitement in his words as I read his post. This got me thinking...Even though it was over five years ago I still remember the first product I ever sold online. It was a antivirus program marketed through Clickbank and I used a PPC Google ad to make the sale.

Knowing nothing about PPC at the time I think I made less than $1 profit but the feeling of making that sale got me addicted to IM!

Do you remember your first sale?

You bet I do. Mine was 2 months or so in the making because I created my own product (ebook, which I still sell regularly today) and I wrote the sales copy.

It feels great doesnt it! But there always more thing to look forward to, like your first $100 day, then $200, and so on. But I dont think anything compares to that first sale.

Probably because it is when you realize that it really can be done.

My very first sale earned me over 100$ in commission. It was article sumission software, a refund was requested less than 24 hours later... LOL

I also went on to produce my own product which I marketed through CB for four years before selling the site early this year.

    HaHa! AWESOME thread...

Definitely remember that day - sweeet smell of success a mere $3.54 at the beginning of November many, many years ago on a Christmas affiliate site I made - I went on to make my first $350 that season.

    Never looked back since

    Sure do...July 1st, 2011

Actually had 2 sales of $19.97... it might have well been a million!

The relief of knowing it IS real...Priceless!

Unfortunately, after buying 4 domains, busting my butt to learn SEO and get the site on page... the creator pulled the product! (So, I basically broke even...LOL)

You should of created your own similar product, and sold it just like you did his. Of course you would of needed a new sales letter, but still.

        No argument there ^^^^

The sales letter being the easy part, the "tech stuff" is where I am a bit green. I believe to have tackled SEO, and a good deal of the tech stuff, but still a ways from 'what' I want to produce/present. (*Credibility factor)

There is always the option to outsource and pay others, and yet I am determined to learn enough to be self-sufficient all-around, before exploring (or better still... employing) such options.

You absolutely right, the product was a simple eBook, with a video package upsell, and 100% commission on the front end, 50% commissions on the backend. (*Made it an easy sell, and opened my eyes to 'what' I need to do next!)

The only difference was the book was written by a "Best Selling Author" -working on that too...

yup i remember it like it was yesterday....

thing is a lot of people dont make a lot at the start or make nothing for a long time and this discourages a lot of people from keeping going in this business, the key to success in this game is to keep trying and trying!

I was fortunate to see results quite early in my IM career, I made my first money with cb products promoting a mystery shopping offer on classified websites lol hey i was new! but anyway it worked almost instantly... I was hooked! the rest is history as they say.....

My first sale online was when I first started out with MLM. I remember getting my first sign up to bring me $25 monthly commissions I was so excited I celebrated with my husband with a bottle of wine!

I stopped with MLM a while back as I moved on to much easier internet marketing ventures lol but I still have the contact details for that subscriber and she still buys products from me every now and again lol

Oddly enough, my first sale online was a domain name back in 1999. I'd be designing websites for a few years by that time and ran across afternic and saw what some domains were selling for. I registered a few domains. I sold one of them later that week for low to mid 4 figures. I thought it was easy money and spent about $2000 on more domains and didn't sell one of them - haha!

Very well, since that is my first time to receive my first payment from making some money online. And man, the feeling of having a first income online is a feeling of complete satisfaction at that time, and it was great. I earned $12 from writing articles, although I couldn't exactly remember how many articles I was writing at that time, but my client paid me $12 for my articles.
Since that time, I always kept moving forward and have been using that experience to really improve on my IM business. If I already earned $12 from that time, I could earn more than $12 this time around. I have been setting that mindset that if I could earn $12, then I could earn $24, then if I could earn $24, then I could earn $48.
It was a words of wisdom shared to me by my uncle which I really applied in my life. Never settle to a limit if you know you could do more than that.

I remember it so vividly ... and to think it was more than 5 years ago, huh. How time flies.

I was selling ad space on a couple of my websites before that, so it wasn't really the first time I made money online, actually I was already living off of my online income back then. However, it was the first time I actually put a product on the market, and the first sale felt absolutely amazing.

I remember it was a $30.00 sale. My friend was just picking me up to go somewhere, and I made him come in and look at PayPal's email about the sale. I must've been glowing.

@charlieboy61: The best of luck, IM is the most wonderful business on the planet once you get the hang of it. I have my fingers crossed for you!

    Absolutely!

I made my first sale at the age of 17 (I'm now 23).

It was for a guitar lessons product on Clickbank.

I was promoting it using Google Adwords. I made $17.13 from the sale.

That was the moment that I really started taking internet marketing seriously.

Looking back now I wish I kept the check, but at the time I was pretty broke

Anyway, nothing is like that first sale (even your first $500/day IMHO).

Great thread. I remember my first affiliate sale about 5 ot 6 years ago, it was for a World of Warcraft leveling guide. I put up a crappy landing page, bookmarked the bejesus out of it then never touched it again. At the time I was still running my mail-order business so I wasn't really focused on pushing the guide and quickly forgot all about it. About 3 months later I got a check through from Clickbank for just over $100. Took it down to the bank and they wouldn't let me deposit the damn thing (I'm in the UK). Long story short, I still have that Clickbank check to this day, gathering dust in one of my files and grossly out of date

My first ebook sale was the best though, maybe 4 years or so ago I wrote a short guide for the Zynga poker game, it was for $17 and I leapt out of my chair and did a little victory dance.

The bank weren't too clued up on affiliate checks back then; I think that's why they didn't offer much helpful advice (their best advice was to send it back and ask Clickbank to send a check raised in £ sterling). My plan was to open an international account but even then there was a minimum opening balance needed or some complication so I left it. Shame really - I might well have got a taste for 'real' internet marketing much earlier if I'd been able to cash that check. Instead it got sidelined while I worked on my mail-order business.

My first sales online were actually from providing services on forums, i remember i did "SEO analysis" and sold the reports. It did actually quite well, but that was years ago and it was easier to sell/offer services at that time.

As for clickbank, i honestly dont remember when i started to make money with clickbank, but there was a LONG time where i didnt make anything with it, so i thought CB and all the products offered there are scams. But at that time i still had to learn A LOT about marketing, traffic etc.

I am pretty sure my first online sale was on Ebay! I sold some furniture my parents wanted to get rid of on the site. That was around 2005.

My first product sales was for a real estate ebook I wrote that sold 2 copies back in 2007. It was the coolest feeling in the world. Should have quit real estate right then and there, but I waited another 2 years before jumping into social media and internet marketing.

While I have seen plenty of "1st Sale" posts, I like the tone of this one, as several people (myself included) relished in the rewards of our efforts, only to later recognize our mistakes...

That in itself 'implies' growth and potential, for those who don't quit!.

It was easy to make money with adwords and clickbank. It's a shame adwords now constantly rejects clickbank affiliate sites. It was even easier when you direct link to affiliate link without landing page. Those days are now gone.

I can't remember my first sale online but I can remember my first series of victories that let me know that I could make money running a business. It was over 11 years ago when I found out about ebay. Prior to that I used to be into hydroponics and I had some plans that I'd bought about how to make different systems. I started making them a few at a time and started selling them on ebay. I believe I made $283 my first week. That led into other products and here I still am today.
A little while back I finally bit the bullet ad created my own info product and made a few sales. I didn't do it for the money, I did it to overcome some mental barriers I had in believing my information had value.

My first sale was through a Click bank product in the health niche back around May of 2009. After making a campaign and doing some back linking it finally made a sale. But the sale didn't come through until about 1 month or so after I did all the work.

This was exciting to me so I tried marketing some more Click bank products and brought in some traffic (mostly through articles) but did not make anymore sales in Click bank. This was discouraging.

But I went through a WSO course that emphasized the high conversion benefits of CPA offers and joined about 5 major networks.

After joining these networks I promoted a simple email submit offer in the dating niche. Even though the payout was like 75 cents per conversion it was very exciting for me because I was getting about 1 transaction a day on auto-pilot.

This auto-pilot income (although small) was exciting enough for me to "scale things up" with internet marketing.

Yup, mine was the Rapid Rewriter software by Matt Carter. It was quite exciting to see the commission appear in my clickbank account summary. It's not so much the money, but the validation that this IM stuff actually works, and so all that is required is to scale up, rinse and repeat.

That is exactly what I felt after my first sale. It wasn't so much the money as the realization that this could be done.

I think my first sale was through Clickbank promoting a product that I still promote today... at the time I had a squeeze page with an optin and I also did direct linking from Adwords to my redirected affiliate link.

It was a antivirus program marketed through Clickbank and I used a PPC Google ad to make the sale.

Knowing nothing about PPC at the time I think I made less than $1 profit but the feeling of making that sale got me addicted to IM!

Do you remember your first sale?
Haha! I remember making my first USD 100 from Clickbank. It wasn't much but thats when everything started getting more addictive..

My first sale was from my very own product that I created,
wrote the copy for and did the graphics as well. Can still
remember staying up until 2:30am just to see the first sale
show up in my Paypal account. It was for $9.97 and
    that was exciting.

That was August 2001. Hard to believe that 10 years
    have already gone by.

My first online check was in 1999 I think.

My first sale was only $1.79 and I got it by promoting a membership site.I only had 31 subscribers at my list and probably one of them signed up for the 2 week trial.

The funny thing is that when I checked the transactions at clickbank I noticed that 2 days after it was refundedLOL

But I didn't even care cause at that time I realized that making money online is something achievable!I kept telling my friends about it all day long.

Nothing compares to that first sale!!!

    Hi Bluecollar,

It was a pair of baby monitors giving me a commision of just over 20 uk pounds, never understood why that ones as they were the most expensive available. Perhaps the buyer had taste!

I was so excited at the sale I had an overwhelming feeling of power and success that at one stage I began to think that I had reached the pinnacle point of affiliate marketing and began to believe that I had became an internet guru!!!

However once I came back down to earth, after at least 30 minutes, I realised that the months no lets make that years of sitting reading, researching, etc was showing signs of reward but it also showed me I had a long way to go! But it was what I needed and came at the right time, what makes it even funnier it that I never made another commission sale for 4 months!!

The best 30 minutes of my life (well almost)

    Regards

    Jack

Ps for those 30 minutes I ruled the world of affilaite marketing, thank god I realised, otherwise I could have lost a fortune!!

YUP! Could never forget that day!

It was the day my life changed FOREVER!

Once you crack that first sale, making a million more becomes possible for the first time!

I sold one of good ole Jonathan Budds products, a membership to his 7 figure networker system for $1 which turned into $17/mo and ironically, I still have that customer to this day! They have been very loyal and I appreciate it!

I did it with SEO. Ranked for Jonathan Budd in Google, pulled traffic to a squidoo article I wrote and made the sale!

A BIG Thank You goes out to JB on that one!

I remember my first sale... back in February. That time I had released my eBook which I had worked so hard on (44 pages, 16,000+ words; I was on the computer 7 hours per day for a week...) and I made a sale about 2 hours after set up.

Man it felt good to receive those $20 .

Nowadays that's not my main business model and I'm not going after it because it requires a lot of customer care and simply takes up too much time. I have moved onto other ways of making money online that actually involve big cash!
