How to Add Facebook Like Button to Static Pages - Help Needed

5 replies
Hello,

I'm somewhat confused about adding the facebook like button to my static site's pages and need some help. Plz bare with me:

As I understand, the XFBML version allows for more options than the iframe one. That is why I'd prefer to use it. However, here are my questions:

1- What is the exact correct xfbml code to insert into pages?

2- Should I add the xfbml code to each page of my site and put a diff url for each code (page's url)? Or if I left the url field empty, it will resort to the default url which is the page in which the code is embeded?

I hope the later is true, since I have a lot of pages and I'd like to simply insert one code automatically without manually editing every code.

3- I heard the xfbml version requires the site to be added to the facebook open graph protocol, through inserting facebook's own meta tags or so, in this format:

<meta property="og:title" content="YOUR TITLE" />
<meta property="og:type" content="SITE TYPE" />
<meta property="og:url" content="SITE URL" />
<meta property="og:image" content="IMG URL" />
<meta property="og:site_name" content="SITE NAME" />
<meta property="fb:admins" content="FB ADMIN ID" />

Questions:

3a- Now is that all that is required to make the xfbml code work for the like button? And should I add the above open graph protocol meta codes to all of my pages and edit each one manually?

3b- I have lots of pages. There isn't a way to automate this or make the meta codes automatically grab the content from the original meta tags of the page??

Finally:

I did the steps above to one of my pages and thought everything was fine. Got the xfbml code from facebook itself I think. Added facebook metas or whatever they are called. But the button didn't show up.

4- Is there someone I can outsource this work to who knows what they are doing? I mean, good with facebook stuff and won't mess-up my pages.

.

    I add stuff manually (html) myself or via plugins with wp....but I'd start with a google search:

    add facebook like button - Google Search=

    Not sure what you are trying to accomplish...

    This page may help: Like Button - Facebook Developers

    You simply enter the url of the page you want to promote, then install the code on that page...

    I don't know if the code is "page specific" or if you can place it on multiple pages...

      Ok, why do I get the feeling that some of you think I haven't googled around or done my research before posting here?

      As much as I appreciate your replies, but you are simply redirecting me to the same facebook page or google results, which I've already gone through and don't contain all of the answers I want.

      Hence, the reason why I decided to post here for hope to find someone who knows more about facebook like buttons and open graph tags. There are still some questions unanswered and which I'm having a hard time finding answers to online.

      I care more about answers to questions no.2, 3b, and the answer to why my xfbml like button doesn't show up despite me doing all of the above. Am I missing something here?

      If someone knows short direct answers to my specific questions above, I'd appreciate their input.

      Thanks.
