Help SAVE my marriage

Ok that's a little drastic, but here is the scenario.

I run a web development business that also does SEO work for clients. My wife has been a stay at home mom for the last 4 years. She was a teacher before that.

She now wants to start working to help take the financial pressure off. But going back into teaching is not a good option.

So why should you care?
You probably don't, but for those that do, I think that some kind of 'internet marketing' is a good way for my wife to bring in some income in the 2-3 hours a day she has available.

I have 3 questions for those that want to help.

  1. Are there any work-at-home moms on warrior forum that were in this position and can advise?
  2. Is it possible to go from 0 to $2k a month in a 6 month period from scracth?
  3. Should she be looking at some other idea? MLM, utility warehouse etc?

Thanks for anyone that could help...

Well look at what she's best in.. teaching is not so bad.. maybe she could come up with kids ebooks, or smart learning tutorial, or she can even do a online tuition classes.. I bet lots of parents would like to take this up, don't charge too high though but concentrate on volume rather..

or maybe she could also offer English learning class via online.. focus on non English medium market.. try work with some local training centers or colleges to get some online certification..

    Just my 2cent

There are places she can get hired online to work, one of them is online tutoring. Have her check out the telecommuting moms board on wahm.com

Hahaha..... that's good. But still, if you have experience in SEO and all this stuff, why don't you get her started off right? I think she'll learn alot more from you than buying some Clickbank product that will supposedly "teach her."

Before she gets into it, she needs to realize that she will be spending a significant amount of time in front of the computer, and she has to be able to hang with that.

Second, she needs to study copywriting and be generally comfortable with creating content. Sure, she could outsource it, but having the ability herself will be invaluable.

Third, she should study Copywriting and PPC. I think that is the fastest way to learning all the direct marketing principles to 'really' get started.

Before you go further - does SHE think this is a good way for her? Is she interested in work that keeps her at home - or a job (part-time perhaps) where there is some interaction with others?

Does she have some computer skills/knowledge? Does she have a hobby or interest that might be a good commercial venture online?

          (I'd avoid mlm)

She can write, can't she? As a teacher, she should be great at it. I flip blogs for money and do well at it. She can do the same. Help her to build blogs on topics she likes to write about. Then, help her monetize with adsense and/or CPA/Clickbank. I would point to my ebook, but you should already know how to help her yourself. Keep the ones that make the most money and sell the rest Good luck.

The first thing the two of you should do is have a 'cards on the table' discussion so that you can each make your expectations known.

As a teacher your wife must have many qualities that employers would appreciate IF she decides that it is the employee route she wants to take.

Earning up to $2,000 a month is not that difficult if she is comfortable in an off line sales environment.

The major problem I see is that, just as nobody should try to teach his wife how to drive, nobody should try to tell his wife how she should earn money. If your wife is independently minded, I'm sure she would appreciate it more if you took a back seat and allowed her to decide what to do and how to find out what to do while still being available as a sounding board for her to bounce HER ideas off.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

That's a great point. She is very driven and independant. I think the reason behind this exersise is 2fold. Get some ideas and also show her that there is a ready made group of awesome people here that would help her out.

I have experience with this I was a teacher (first grade) before I started working online...and I was able to match my teaching income (I had my baby in the summer, so did not return to teaching) right away (like, the first week) when I started ghostwriting. If your wife enjoys writing and researching that's a definite option.

I just wanted to say a word about the online tutoring thing...I was hired to do that and the pay was so abysmal and the competition to get hours was so fierce that I don't recommend that experience.

Affiliate marketing is an option too...but that may take longer to start bringing in income for her.

Service type jobs (such as ghostwriting or being a virtual assistant) is the fastest way I know to start earning a full time income online. There is a lot of demand for this, and since she's a teacher I'm certain she has the skills to make this work if she wants to

Yes, I am an affiliate marketer as well. However...if she needs the income this route is not guaranteed and can take a while to build up. There is also a learning curve and many different affiliate marketing options to explore.

My "path" was ghostwriting full time, and then moving into affiliate marketing and creating my own products once I had "learned the ropes" more.

It depends on how quickly and badly you guys decide you need the extra 2K a month income and how willing she is to take risks with choosing niche markets and affiliate products to promote.

But, if she is a quick learner and can really dedicate herself...she can do anything she wants online. I just gravitated toward guaranteed ghostwriting and VA income at those early stages.

I had a similar experience - I was also a teacher (equivalent of sixth grade) and I replaced my income before I gave up my teaching job. I got my first (and best) writing job on Craigslist writing articles at $50 per 500 words. I was lucky to be paid so well early on, but there's still lots of potential for ghostwriters.

writing is a great idea. But, if she does not like to write and you are thinking more along the lines of an online product - how about something geared to the home-school market? Not sure exactly what, but a teacher should have creditbility in that field.

It would be helpful to know what your wife's interests, skills, and strengths are.

Anyway, if she has 2-3 hours a day, she could...
        • Work as a ghost writer
        • Work as a virtual assistant
        • Sell stuff on ebay
        • Start niche blogging
        • Promote products/services as an affiliate
        • Start a PLR membership site
        • etc.

    Plum,

I'm not a stay at home Mom, so take this accordingly.

As a teacher she has had to learn to do research and prepare content for her students. She could write valid content that could be offered as a SEO service for your clients. This way she would be starting with a customer base and you would be offering your clients more value.

She then could offer this service to your local businesses to help add content to their sites. The advantage in that being she knows the area and the "local color" to add meaningful insights to the site of the local business.

Use both of your strengths to build her business and yours. There have been several threads within the last few days talking about using this method. One in particular explained how he did this very thing and hit his needed money goal within a few days. Then within 2 weeks or less he had enough work to keep him busy for a year, plus he was developing it into what would be a long term business.

    Just a thought.

Please give your wife my best wishes for success.

Since her previous occupation was a teacher, why not tap into those talents and help her start her own home school consulting business?

    Business Ideas - Home Schooling

It would give her the chance to meet other parents, and she could work her own hours and have her office stationed in your home. There are a lot of parents out there who want to get their children out of the public school system, but don't have a clue as to how to begin a sturdy home school curriculum. Your wife would be filling a very serious need within the education marketplace, and could market her services online to get even more clients.

Just my 2 cents. A lot of kinks would have to be worked out, but it seems like a good option for your wife in the long run if it's something she's interested in.
