What is the best way to get affiliates for your product?

I am working on a new product and was wondering what is the best way to get affiliates to promote your product. Clickbank seems to be a good option would you recommend it? Are there alternative platforms similar to Clickbank who are recommended.

Are there any other ways to approach affiliates? It seems you have to be a guru to get any interest. Is it worth sending an email directly to webmasters who you think would be a good fit with your product. I am a bit wary of doing this because of being accused of sending spam. Are there any other methods to approach affiliates you know of? Any input from you guys would be appreciated.

    Press Releases can work.

If you send a press release with New Affiliate Program in the title you can usually find some traction.

Also, there are 'Affiliate Announcement Site' that will contact affiliates and let them know that you have a new product for sale.

Since you are using Clickbank a copy of helpful reminders:

    1. Offer th ehighest percentage available 75%. Most BIG TIME affiliates won't touch a product that offers less.
    2. Try to convert customers as affiliates. Once they buy the product let them know that thye can make money by selling it to people with similar interests.

-Just a couple of thoughts....good luck!

On Clickbank it's important to have a super sales letter that converts well when you start. You need to give a commission of at least 60% starting out. Most affiliates look at your "gravity" on Clickbank to see if your sales by different affiliates is growing or dwindling. If you can get a high gravity, more and more affiliates will pick up your product.

    Hi Madison,

I wouldn't consider myself a guru - but I directed a few affiliate programs in my past jobs and and maybe I can give you a couple resources.

(By the way Clickbank ready products are always a plus so keep on that)

Your strategy would also depend on the product you sell, and the image you want to retain, as affiliate marketing - if conducted wrong - can dilute a brand image.

First off find motivated affiliates, search forums like your doing now, and feel free to throw in an elevator pitch or two. Next, decide on an inhouse affiliate program or not - an in-house affiliate program may require you too purchase a platform software (like 99$) but they give you a lot of control on the branding.

After you have made some decision and established your affiliate system market it. You can use numerous mediums for this:

-Post in forums on related topics, create threads to draw attention
-Submit your affiliate program in affiliate directory programs (Associateprogram.com, ect)
-Comment on related blogs and leave a trackback to an affiliate pitch

If you have secured a great niche, that isn't over diluted - than you might find the mass marketing techniques will work. However if you need to go above and beyond to find motivated affiliates to sell your products - try the tips above.

You should write a brief pitch or USP to help draw affiliate - and you can also copy and paste it into forums, blogs ect. saving you time. If you need some help with a pitch I'm sure the folks harbored in the copywriting forum would be glad to help.

    Cheers,
    Kris

Hey, don't ever think of spamming. You'll ruin your reputation if you do so.
CB is good for starting out. There are many quality affiliates. You do get a few affiliates initially till the time your product features in the 'new products' category of CB.
    Other alternatives are:
    Paydotcom.com
and Click2Sell.eu (hard to get interested affiliates)
Create a wso, post about your affiliate program in affiliate directories.
post in forums (DP and other webmaster forums.. better than spam mail)
PR's can be responsive as well.
BTW, you can find JV's for starters on WF. all the best

Many affiliates will also appreciate that if you have a affiliate resource page where you provide them with tips, images for banners, book covers, etc.

And also, do try to capture their emails and names of your affiliates... Maintain a good relationship with them as affiliates really contribute towards your income bottom line.

Thanks for the input so far guys, I have read it carefully and made notes!
The press release idea I will definitely look at. Yes and the copy for the sales letter for clickbank is certainly important. An Inhouse affiliate program gives you a lot more control, I want the affiliate to do most of the work on his page and try to send the buyer straight to the paypal order page. As far as affiliate numbers go I just as many as possible at the stage, I can't afford to be too picky!
I think resources for affiliates are important, I want to make it as easy as possible for affiliates to promote the product. I will be prepared to support them, with all the resources I can.

    all the best
