RSS Submit VS Wordpress Ping

Submitting your RSS feed to aggregators and pinging your feed are two different things.

1. Pinging your feed is like saying 'hello, hello I'm here come check me out' and that's it, the next time you want them to visit your site you have to ping them again. Pinging is a good way to get your website indexed in the search engines quite quickly

2. RSS submission is actually submitting your feed to the aggregator so they have your feed on their server which will build backlinks.

The entire RSS Submission has been a little hard for me to grasp. This brings me to another question.

1. Is it worth submitting my blog to blog directories since many I can just add my RSS feed to or does it automatically do it once they have my feed?

You don't need to ping your blog to any because modern blog platforms such as Wordpress and Blogger -they all have pings built in.

Wordpress has Ping-o-matic (which is the most popular ping service) and Blogger is connected to blog search by google. So there is no need to use it.

And if you burn your blog feed with feedburner, then it comes by default, no need to stress pings yourself.

Next up is RSS/Blog directories.

Well it's good to list your blog in couple of top directories such as Technorati and BlogCatalog but if you spend hours trying to list it in every other directory under the sun then you are just wasting your precious time.

The time you have you should use it to write great content, market it and form relationships with other people in your niche.
