Took the first step in creating a niche website

I've created a lot of websites in my time but this is the first one that I'm creating for a specific niche to sell an e-book I created (from PLR which I modified) and to sell amazon products using my affiliate link.

I spent most of the day yesterday re-designing the ebook and graphics.

I then spent most of today...

1. Creating the website
2. Modifying the theme
3. Designing and adding the graphic header.
4. Writing 5 posts (although 4 or just recipes).
5. Writing the sales page for the e-book
6. Created the "Thank You - Download" page for the ebook.
7. Set up the Buy Now link in Paypal
8. Set up the affiliate page for Amazon products as well as an Amazon Storefront page.
9. Created a Youtube account just for the site
10. Created a Youtube video that points to the site.

Needless to say it's been a busy day and I hope it's all worth it. I know I'm not done yet. I still need to add more articles, videos, and do some sort of back linking (although I'm not sure how many sites are out there that I can post to about ice cream). I'm thinking of doing a PPC campaign but I want to spend as little (if any) money on getting traffic.

I do have a couple of questions, though.

1. Should I take a rest for a few days to let the site sink in with Google. Is it bad for a new site to suddenly have a ton of articles?

2. Should I try to create a list even though I'm not that particularly interested in homemade ice cream. I don't even have a machine. I just created the site to sell the ebook and maybe get some Amazon sales.

3. Any other ideas on how to promote it to get traffic?

Thanks.

Mike

    Mike,

    That's a nice looking site.

The phrase has plenty of traffic too. I'd expect you will rank quite quickly with some link building for the site, although there's more competition than I expected to be honest.

You need to get a sitemap built for it (you can install a plugin for this), and get it indexed in Google!

      Hey Mike,

      Nice Site!

I would create some social media webpages to promote it, facebook, twitter etc.

You could take some videos at local ice cream stores, post to youtube and post link there.

      Good Luck!

      Thanks Martin,

I did some keyword research with another fellow warrior who helped me out and found some good keywords to beat the competition. Hopefully I'll get a Christmas rush of visitors

I just wanted to actually say thanks for introducing me to that theme. I have 5/6 sites that look completely the same and am a little sick of it. I can finally deviate from the Heatmap Pro theme. lol

I've used that flexibility theme on a few of my sites. It's amazing how much it can be customized and it's extremely easy....which is what I like

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll try creating some more of my own videos soon.

BTW, I created my one video using Animoto. Not very exciting but maybe I'll get a few people from it. You can see it here.

*** Link to video removed ***

I was mainly looking for youtube back links if they happen to count.

I'm glad to see you progressing like this.

Keep it up. The site seems great, I don't see anything that would

    hold you back.

Keep Making videos, find a forum relevant to your niche and begin posting/building your backlinks. Also make sure that your links are coming from different sources.

    GoodLuck.

Nice job on the site. I'd let it settle a bit and just keep adding articles at a more natural pace rather than all at once.

You should totally keep this thread updated, treat it like a case study.

That's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure. Thanks.

If anyone wants to add some suggestions, that would be great. I'll also keep you updated on the progress.

Yeah. I saw that but didn't try getting rid of it. If I remember correctly, I think it's one of those links that stays there until you buy their full blown theme. I think I tried getting rid of it once and the entire site went down.

I'm a big fan of article marketing. I would recommend rewriting your articles, and submitting them to some of the higher PR directories.

Here is a list of Article Directories, ranked by PR.

BTW, thanks for outlining your niche site workflow.

      Quick update.

It looks like Google indexed my site about 3 hours after I started this thread. It also indexed my Youtube video.

      Now we're cookin'

Site looks great made me hungry just looking at the recipies lol.

You can set your articles to auto post on wordpress every day if you are worried about too many articles too soon on Google.

Also do some SEO work like creating backlinks, social bookmarks, and maybe some web 2.0 sites will really start to boost you up the rankings in Google.

Hope this helps and good luck
