Shared or Dedicated Host?

Currently I use host gator and have about 20 domains hosted on 1 account.

I've been told that I should move over to a dedicated host but the cost difference is amazing.

what benefits would I get if I moved it over?

You will get improved speed and your sites will be more secure as they won't be affected by other sites using the same shared hosting.

You are right though the cost is a bit out there. I prefer to use several different hosts for two reasons.
    1. I don't like having all my eggs in one basket.
    2. Better SEO. Having them on seperate hosts and linking to your different sites is better than doing it when they're all oin the same domain.

Dedicated Server is costly as compared to Shared Hosting. If it is out of the budget, you can simply get multiple shared hosting packages. Ask the host to setup each account on different servers.

Dedi servers are more versatile, and generally used by high-end websites that receive 'crazy' traffic..

You get a computer that's all yours (till you pay them), and a dedicated internet line. While on a shared hosting, one computer is shared by 100-150 or even more users. So, the server speed, and the security is momentously compromised.

If your serious you will need a Dedicated box or a VPS. I would suggest 2 VPS Servers one in UK and one in US try and go with a host who are able to provide a block of IP address on each so you can sit each site on a different IP...

You will know when you need a dedicated server - when your webhost tells you are taking up too much of the shared server resources. No point changing over until then.

This is a really good rule of thumb. Generally when you have enough traffic to start outgrowing a common hosting account, you're also making enough money for a dedicated server.

There are a lot of advantages to going dedicated, but make sure you're making enough to support it, even in lean sales times.

Are you getting enough traffic to pay for a dedicated server? Those things are not cheap.

How fast are your sites loading? Load time and server load should tell you when its time to upgrade. Having 20 domains on a server is nothing to worry about.

Dedicated server is definitely a better option.
And you may have a reliable one from aspnix company.

I think it is just depend on the speed of your site loading, how much seo you will do. and how long will you use the host?
If your site is slow to open, it is better to move to a dedicated server.
If you want to have a better and search ranking for your site.It will be decicated server.
If u want to use the host in a long time,it is better to use the dedicated ip,thus, it will increase the authority of your site indeed.

So by switching from shared to dedicated could increase my organic listings without doing anything else

If you are thinking of moving up then go for a VPS first, you may find it handles the extra you need and the cost is a lot less than a dedicated server...
