Creating Recurring Subscription Newsletter

I want to create a paid (recurring subscription) newsletter. I have Aweber and I want to do it with Paypal.

I've heard that it isn't possible. Is that true? I like the Aweber opt-in and I thought it would simply be a matter of linking it to my Paypal account, as you can do for single products.

Any ideas how this could be done? Please provide details if so.

Why, dear goddess, is everything always so complicated!?!

Oh, I also have DLG, but would that work for a paid newsletter?

I was going to say that DLG could be the answer until I saw your last line. It has a membership option for recurring payments so it should work fine for you.

You could always use tinyletter. It's a free service, you can set up your recurring options and they even collect the payments for you. If you prefer to get it in paypal there is an option for that as well. I am also sure you can incorporate lists into tinyletter and vice versa.

        Hi Jacob!

Thanks! Do you know if Tinyletter provides information only after you register? I don't see much on their main website.

Thanks Patricia! I will contact Sam about that!

Also, can you tell me what happens if I click the "thanks" button on your post...does that just go to your stats?

Since you already have DL Gurard, go with it. That should be fine. As for linking PayPal and Aweber, you point the PayPal notification email at the Aweber parser. Think of a parser as an email reader. When PayPal send the notification to your list that someone bought, Aweber adds them to your list, and sends a confirmation email.

    Aweber has a tutorial.

      Thanks Don,

I've looked at all of that and I guess I am just dense about how to set up the recurring part without just Aweber and Paypal. The list parsing area is not for recurring payments. I've gotten in touch with Sam at DLG and I will see what he has to say.

    Hi Jajo,

Yes there is a back office area where you can edit just about everything inside. Don't worry they wont spam your email or anything if you sign up. Feel free to test it out. It's a wonderful service.

      Jacob,

Thanks again! I will take a look at that. I was surprised that there was no information without registering.

Another option is the s2member plugin for WordPress as it has the ability to integrate with Aweber.

You just add in in your Aweber form info, and set the option to have a confirmation email sent out when a person subscribes. You then use s2member to setup your PayPal buttons and you're away.

So a person would hit the buy button, register their info & pay through PayPal, and the Aweber confirmation email gets sent out to them automatically. They confirm, and then they're on your list with recurring billing being handled via s2member and PayPal.

      Kezz,

I installed the s2Member plugin and started to work with it. I am VERY impressed that it has so much tutorial information with it, including videos.

I think it may be what I am looking for, but as I haven't gotten far with it yet, could you tell me if my Aweber optin form will still show on my site if I use s2Member. I see where to link it and everything, but I am too tired to work with it anymore this evening.

I would like the form to show, but I know it wouldn't with DLG either. Right now I pulled it off the site while I decide what I am doing...hahaha....

      Thanks!

Yeah it's quite extraordinary isn't it. I really love the plugin and have put it to a whole bunch of different uses.

With that particular approach the opt in form doesn't show as it's designed to automate the whole process.

However if you want people to manually sign themselves up you could always have the form on a protected page. Or you could use Dr. Mani's suggestion, which is also a winner.

If you like it would recommend the upgrade to pro. I love the plugin so cool. I use it for all my membership sites.

Yeah I'm about to get it shortly. I don't even really need it as there are so many features in the free version but it's so good I feel guilty using it without paying the creator.

            Hi Kezz,

Wow!! I have s2Member now and have most of it set up. I still have to test it out.

    Why make it over-complicated?

I have a paid email newsletter linked in my sig. Here is how it is set up.

    1. A sales letter points to a PayPal SUBSCRIBE button
    2. The thank you page of the PayPal button (which you can control)
has the opt-in form for the paid email newsletter
    3. The emails are queued up on the Aweber autoresponder to go out
    on a schedule
    4. As I have control over the subscribers, I can unsubscribe or
block them if they cancel their recurring billing at any time

Unless you have a HUGE number of subscribers, or a high attrition
rate requiring frequently updating the subscriber base, this should
work reasonably well for a time investment of 15 minutes a week, if
    that, on admin tasks.

    Hope this helps.

    All success

But the customers must have PayPal accounts to subscribe - unless you have the merchant account pro service going through Paypal. IOW, not the Premeire or Business accounts. Is that correct or am I missing something?

It's very simple. You want to charge a recurring payment... take the newsletter out of the equation, it's irrelevant.

Just set up a recurring payment on paypal and send your subscribers to the link. Simple.

Provide them with what you promised and the circle is complete.

Yeah it's awesome isn't it. For a while I was dubious on trying it as I thought being free it couldn't stack up against the paid options. But geeze, the power of this thing is crazy. I honestly don't know how they even keep up what they do off the paid upgrades and themes only. Very impressive!

I want to thank everyone for the helpful answers here. I have a few questions about putting a newsletter on my website but will post a new thread about that.
