Registering a domain with your name.

I am curious, how many of your Internet Marketers have your own domain registered with your name. Is it worth it? I am thinking of launching one as a way for people to get to know me and my projects. Any thoughts on this?

It's always good to have yourname.com for branding purposes. I've been trying to get mine for almost four years now. Someone snatched it up and is not using it smh.

I don't have my name registered (because it was already taken) but I have a very nice variation of it registered with me.

Currently, I use that domain only for my main Google apps email particularly because it sounds cool and unique when you're in college.

It can be a good idea to register your name because your name is your brand. And if you plan to take over your niche, you need to build your brand.

I have bought domains for my firstnamesurname.com, then bought surname.com so I can use subdomains for any member of the family such as cousin.surname.com, sister.surname.com. I had a son recently and I already register hisnamesurname.com because he may need it in the future and may be unavailable :-)

Has nothing to do with ego and everything to do with branding. If I have my name as my domain then all of my products and projects can be ran from a central website. Why would I want to do this? Helps with list building, helps show all of my products from one place, and many more things.

But I suggest that you stop trying to "troll" people and sit back and observe. Attacking people on this forum will not make you friends and you'll find yourself alienated very fast.

And when I become famous and a big Internet Marketer, I don't want to pay thousands of dollars to get a domain that I can buy for .99 today. Just doesn't make much business sense.

Lucky I have a weird name so
Rockhampton and Yeppoon You can Save money by being on Facebook | Justin Cleghorn was an easy buy!

HINT: If you can't get your name, either change it to something like "T1257U Smith" (That Domains available)
    or
Marry someone with a name that's available. Its acceptable for Men to take their new wives surnames in 2011 (i think)

    Oda

P.S Only the last 2 words are my actual name. I couldn't fit the save money etc etc on my licence.

I grabbed myname.net not long ago so that I can build a brand around it. The .com was taken .

I think if you want to build a name for yourself as a marketer or similar or even if you just want it to show off what you can do if you are a designer or something then it is a great thing to have.

I had a business name as well but I am moving more and more to just my name so it will (hopefully) get more known as time goes on.

Currently have (3) .com's under pen names, but not my real name. Unfortunately, there's a major Mitsubishi car dealership owner with the same name as me, and the .com domain.

Update: WTH...just now went and bought the [myname.net] before the car dealer decides to expand...LOL

Besides, I can see it being important in the near future, as I expand. Wasn't exactly my first (more like domain #131 )

I think I'd have an easier time 'branding a cow' than branding myself! - Probably be easier to find a theme too...LOL

All kidding aside, I've just started using Optimize Press WP Themes, and they pretty much do it all! ($97)

Elegant Themes look great, but I still haven't figured out how the heck to use their layouts. They're a lot cheaper though...( only $39 year!)

I have a domain registered with my middle initial that is a .com, fortunately. I actually purchased it to use as a resume hosting site for when I apply for jobs.

Turns out I don't really like the way it looks now so I don't use it anymore. I just used a basic Wordpress theme slightly modded but it still is just not professional enough I think to use for my purposes.

I have been thinking recently though about making it into a personal blog to start off my IM career and start branding myself, like has been discussed on this thread, just not really sure how to go about that yet, but working on it. I am definitely open to any suggestions.

I got my own name as a dot com a while back, but I don't use it yet. My other domains are contained in my named domain as co-domains.

When I finally decide what's the best use for it, I'll wheel it out onto the big bad internet.

If you can get it, I strongly recommend doing so. It can protect your reputation, and help buid your business empire.

I have both the .com and .co.uk versions of my name. I registered them both quite early on - the .co.uk one was back in 2004 and the .com one a couple of years later. I use them to promote my video services rather than anything directly involved with IM.

Is it worth it? Yes! There's another video director with the same name as me in South Africa, and a guy in the UK who runs a Film & TV lighting business. I'm sure they'd both like one or both of these domains, but they can't 'cos I got them first .

Even if you don't have a use for it now, I'd recommend anyone to get at least the .com version of their name, just to stop anyone else with the same name getting it. You never know, it might come in handy later.

My .co.uk domain is http://www.shaunpearce.co.uk the shaunpearce.com domain also redirects to this site.

      two ideas

      1) General everyday blogging, nothing about business, just where you can voice your opinions, or rant about things you dislike.

      2) It can be a hub for all your products and services, you can include portfolios if you have one, and maybe Resume.

Having your ownname.com is essential when building your trust and brand. Think about the kind of message and impact that has on a person. It says that you stand behind what you offer because most anyone that uses their name is going not to want to trash it.

I have my own name. Love having it and I use it to personally brand myself. The question really comes in on getting traffic to your site and getting leads. Most people get weird and think they have to be a guru to get people their. It is not the case. I promise.

So go for it. Learn some attraction marketing to get the best traffic. Teach what you already know. Offer the products you have already created and go big.

It's funny too! Because after I registered it, I get emails from "my other me's" asking me who I am! I met about 30 people with my same exact name since I registered it.

Every professional online marketer should purchase their name as a domain. In fact, there is more than one strong argument for doing so...

First there's the direct reasons. You may want to actually develop a website on the domain. Or even if not, you should use it for your personal email accounts (doing so sends a much more professional image than Gmail or whatever).

But the other less obvious reason is that if you don't purchase the domain, some one else will. And what if the "other you" that does so turns out to be some kind of porn dealing crack head that likes to upload the videos to his website (in your name.com) Ouch. People try to google you and all they find is Mr. Nasty's website on the first 4 pages of results. Try overcoming that.

Like some others that have posted here, I was fortunate to be able to get my name as a domain on both .com and .net many years ago. I have received more requests to sell them than I can possibly count... and I never will. Suggest you do the same.

It may sound like I'm "parroting" here, but I believe it is a very good idea to register your name as a domain. In internet marketing, YOU are usually your brand. Registering your name makes it much easier for a forum friend to find you should they want to learn more about you, which leads to trust, which leads to partnerships, JV's, and business for you.

If I wouldn't put my name on it I wouldn't be selling it. I don't see the point in using fake names, that makes what some people are doing sound very shady. I think that gives IM as a whole a black eye. So the way I would handle it is simple, I'd promote products I believe in under my real name or not at all.

Good point... the technique I was referring to was promoted in a video series I recently went through... the point of using different names was people like to buy from people who are experts in that particular niche... if one sells products in multiple niches... it could potentially lessen their credibility. Don't know if this would be true or not. comments?

Well I will let you know in a few years how it works out. I intend to promote many different niches through my name.com . I still think that technique is shady. If you're capable of being an expert under another name, then I don't see what the harm is in using your real name. But thats my 2 cents.

If ::: YOURNAME.COM ::: is available grab it without even giving it a thought. If you plan to do anything online and have a long term vision, I would recommend you getting your name domain. This could help you tremendously for branding purposes.

Also you could use it as a central hub for all your web properties around it.

I recommend you build a personal blog on that domain and keep posting valuable content on i. This will not only give you good Google rankings, but also get you some free traffic which is always cool.

    Hope this helps,

Really? why are you guys referring to "pen names" as "fake names", come on guys, greatest authors have used pen names to write different books for many years, and in IM many people have marketed in different niches using pen names, who doesn't know David Diangelo in dating niche, isn't he the same person as Eben Pagan we all know in the IM niche, does that discredit him in any way? I guess not.

Pen names are totally fine, as long you are using them to sell drugs or illegal substances lol where it'll be considered as shady.

I'll admit I was being too literal. When it was presented as "fake" name it just conjures bad images for me. As "pen" name that is a different light. However I still stand by what I said as selling under one name and not many.

I also sell under one name, Dee Odus, but obviously "Dee" is not my real first name, but the reason is because my first name is very long difficult to pronounce for Europeans so I shortened it and it has stick ever since :-) I put my pictures on my name every time, so I am not doing anything shady.

That I understand Dee. In that light it makes sense.

I have a domain with my real name. I don't do much with it yet but I plan on branding it as part of a challenge later on next month. Hopefully that will help with all areas of my life.

Trying to register a exact match domain for your own name is good way of reminding yourself that you're not as unique as you think you are

Almost any good combination of my name is taken, wish my parents had been a little more creative

if you do a domian register with your name or company name, then, it will be easier to do the seo work for ranking in my opnion, and it will be better to remember your brand indeed. There are a lot of people using this way to get their brands promotion.

I have my name as a domain. Wasn't a big deal. Depends on your name though.

I also have other domains with keyword names.

While I own the .net for my real name it's collecting dust on a GoDaddy account, since there's a car dealer who pretty much dominates the first 10+ pages of google. I did find my Warrior profile made it too page 4.
