Facebook Subscribers Breaking News WOW

Facebook just opened a huge can of greatness to marketers!
https://www.facebook.com/about/subscriptions

One of the biggest is essentially connecting to more than 5,000 people. If anyone can subscribe to you (and you can subscribe to anyone without friending), your limits are essentially gone. The other big thing is managing what you see in a much simpler way.

Pretty big stuff. Subscribe to me lets test

I think this will be very beneficial. I have not heard of it until now, but I will have to read up more and see exactly what it's all about.

Why don't all profiles have a Subscribe button?
Only people who allow subscribers will have a Subscribe button on their profile. If you don't see the button, you can't subscribe.
That is good to know too!

Yea is brand new today... It does allow people or brands to exceed 5000 people and also limit what you see in the feed. Lets say if Auntie May plays farmville I can exclude seeing all here post.. This is so new I am sure more ideas will show...

You could have opted out of that before. You don't even have to block Auntie May just all those stupid game apps & their invites.

I have a few friends who could probably put this to good use. Of course they're journalists/pastors/musicians etc. Not sure if they will... but they could.

thanks for sharing...this is a very neat feature...in essence you get their news feed without having to be their friend...definitely facebook's response to twitter.

My prediction is that a WSO will pop up in a few weeks "How to get 5000K+ people to subscribe to your facebook feed".

I wonder will there be any mass-subscribe (aka mass-follow) tools, trying to earn a "curiosity" visit from the user who you subscribed to.

It looks like pages don't get the subscribe button. Read it on this page.

So does that mean this feature is only for personal accounts?

This looks like it will be great for public figures. You can stay updated without having to go through the befriending process. That always seemed awkward when people you didn't really know wanted to be your "friend".

That's the only benefit I see... to public figures.

Why in the world would the ordinary joe that doesn't know me bother subscribing to my feed and not friending me? On twitter, it's usually done for the follow back. So maybe that becomes the standard here.. but I doubt it.

Looks like a fail to me, but we'll see. Facebook is trying hard to stay current and not become the next myspace. They keep saying they're not worried about google+ but then implementing all the same features. Kind of funny to watch.

It may be only meant for public figures, or those with too many "friends". Because right now facebook limits the amount of friends you can have to 5000 people. So this would be great for those people that are their brand.

Interesting stuff, this is a direct attack on Twitter me thinks because as someone said, this feature will mainly benefit individuals.

It's similar to having a fan page, because you can now use your profile page with subscription anyone can follow your updates. It's similar to "follow" on twitter. This feature is already available on Google+, Facebook wants to prevent Google+ from any serious competition that's why it's implementing all Google+ features to prevent mass switchover

I agree - because those people that are their brand, are doing much better over on Google Plus. For instance over on Facebook, unless he had a fanpage, Gary Vaynerchuk would be limited to 5000 friends. Over on Google Plus more than 37,000 people have him in their circles.

This has the potential to be huge.
For one thing if you are maxed out at 5000 you can still get more readers.

The bigger thing is you can see who is subscribing to you.
Eventually just like with twitter you will be able to subscribe to people in order to get them to subscribe to you. (they will get a notification when you follow them.)
Also facebook will be recommending you to others to follow.

I believe it's only for personal profiles, because people can already subscribe to your pages.

After seeing this news I went to check out the domain www.facebooksubscribe.com and someone had already snapped it up and put a $15k pricetag on it. LOL as if anyone is going to pay that.

Anyway, I know its not really a great domain but SUBSCRIBEFACEBOOK.COM was available so for $5 I registered it as you never know eh. LOL

I think you are confused! This thread is about facebook changing it's rules not giving up it's trademark. Therefore you are likely to get a cease and desist from facebook and asked to hand the domain back to them. I strongly suggest you get lawyers advice before using this domain in your business as facebook could sue you!

Richard, he didn't snatch it up, unless I'm mistaken. But your right about the trademark issue, anyone treading in those waters is asking for trouble.

Hey for $5 I'm not worried. If they want it back they can have it. I'm just thinking of all the people who would be prepared to use it, I bet theres a lot of IMers who would.

Seems better for public figures as one before me mentioned. I'm not sure how beneficial this will be for someone that is trying to promote a brand or website that is faceless, but hey, ya never know :0

Added the subscribe option to my profiles and got 24 subscribers in 1 day.
This has the potential to get really good.
It looks like any one who subscribes to me will get my wall posts in a subscriptions area.
The question is will anyone check that area. Either way its more exposure and the possibility to get more traffic for free.

Ok just noticed something else that is really cool
As soon as someone requests to be a friend they become a subscriber.
This means that even before you approve them as a friend they are already getting your content.
    Very cool
