For many people, the beginning of their journey on IM may go back to years and years ago. Just wondering who your mentor was(if you had one)? How did you get started(i.e. any programs, ebooks, etc..)? How long did it take for you to start making money?

If you have any suggestions or anything to say to newbies, what would you say?

Travis sago, and his Bum Marketing Method - Free Traffic Tips

I was dead broke when I turned to the internet, this free report changed my life.

I made 2000 my first month.

Now I make a steady 5 figures a month, still using some of the strategies in the free report.

Wow...2000 your first month!!! That's great! How long ago was this? I'm familiar with travis and his bum marketing. I'm doing something similar.

Did you use USfreeads? What do you do now?

    I've been around a while,

My mentors were Dan Kennedy, Gary Halbert, Bill Myers, Tony Blake, Mark Nolan, Ron Ruiz, Cory Rudl, Marlon Sanders, Tery Dean

Newer mentors are Derek Gehl, Ed Dale. I am beginning to really like Ross Goldberg, he honestly shares what he knows.

There are a lot of newer people worth listening to such as Mike Filsaime and Joel Comm. I like Travis Sago and I have learned a lot from him.

My mentor is Amy Bass of "The Niche Blogger"
      She's sweet honest and a real go-getter. I
highly recommend her service to anyone, and
at $18 a month, you'll not find a better system
      or coaching on the web.

I'm an affiliate of her but my link is not on this post,
I'll not spam members with offers where it's not
      appropriate on this forum.

Same here. Especially Mark Nolan. Instant Cash Flow opened my eyes to a new way of being an entrepreneur.

Travis Sago has got me with the "gee aw shucks" approach. Refreshing.

I started little old Fiction Factor in 2000 on my own with no mentor and back then it was making about $5 a month. I didn't begin it to make money, because I simply didn't know it was possible to make money on the internet. I worked at a bank and Fiction Factor was my way of helping writers. I just did this in my spare time.

In 2003 I wrote an ebook, thinking maybe I'd make a couple of dollars and it accidentally made a LOT of money. I had no idea what I was doing back then. I just released it and it sold. It still sells well today.

Imagine what I could have done with correct focus and targeted marketing instead of the random ads I threw on my own newsletter?

I threw some adsense ads on the site and they started to do okay enough to bring me a nice check every month.

If I knew then what I know now I would have been a lot more aggressive in my marketing techniques. I would have looked for a mentor instead of using the years and years of trial and error before I got to where I am today. I would have built the site differently.

But I'm here now and I'm still learning and growing. In fact, I'm still looking for a mentor to help me up to the next level from where I am today.

I never had a personal mentor. I just watched all "big names" making cash, find out how they did it, and now planning to do exactly that.
In the mean time I have gathered an army of potential affiliates / launch partners... Just don't forget to also spend time on networking!
It took me 2 years to get here and FINALLY, in March / April I'm going to launch a very big item to the IM industry.

I bought Instant Internet Profits by Yanik Silver about 9 years ago. It opened my eyes to the world of digital ebook sales and internet marketing. Never looked back.

I've had more mentors than I can count

The best or worst part is, they never even knew they were my mentor.
I like to pay attention to the things that people are doing. I store the
information that might be helpful to me down the road and put the things
that will be profitable for me now into action, right away.

If you are already making money, that's dangerous

All I have done is really show you a simple process. Once you get that down and see just how easy it is to scale it, you will really be on a roll

Ken Evoy, from his free masters course series.

He teach me a good foundation on internet marketing principals. The best free course I've read, heck it even beats a lot of paid products.

This is way before your time, but the first book on writing and selling info products I got was Jerry Buchanan's Writers Utopia Formula Report. Small but excellent. Jerry's gone now.

Best advice: Pick your best path and go with it. Don't get side-tracked by info overload. Don't give up and keep on learning every day.

Travis and the Bum Marketing method was probably the biggest influence in getting started on the Internet. I am not a whiz at marketing yet but am learning a lot by reading everything I can find.

Bum marketing works if you will work it. There are lots to add to article marketing that you will pick up as you go. Lots of info out there on article marketing. Just use your common sense. Learn the basics of marketing and you can't go wrong. There's lots of info about copy writing on WF. That's one of the most important things to learn.

    Best of luck,
    Steve
