IT FINALLY HAPPENED: My PayPal was limited

Yesterday afternoon, at about 4 PM Pacific, PayPal decided to limit my account. I received an email about this.

At 4:30 PM Pacific, they emailed me again to say that they were lifting the limitation on my account.

At 6 PM Pacific, I checked my email to discover that basically PayPal had an issue and resolved it without my involvement.

I don't even really know what the issue was. Basically, PayPal limited my account for half an hour and I don't know why. It did not cause me to lose any money or suffer any hardship, and to be perfectly honest I didn't even notice.

So why am I posting this here?

Because everyone who has a major pain in the arse with PayPal comes in here to rant all over the place about it, and we act like that's all they ever do. But here's PayPal responding to an issue entirely by themselves in a short period of time without bothering me or costing me any money, and I think we sort of need to notice that sometimes this happens, too.

I did ask why they limited the account, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I'll let you know when I get one.

    Hey CD,

See how that works? Paypal was probably looking at a potential fraudulent purchase or payment.

I had some one buy gpscraper and Paypal froze the funds and the issue showed up in my account. I was wondering what it was about because I wasn't sure how to respond.

I called them up and asked them what's the deal and they said they have taken it upon themselves to investigate the transaction for fraud activity on the purchasers end. No need for me to reply to the issue.

I told them great! I'm logging into my products admin area and revoking access rights to my software until you complete your investigation. If you let the transaction through I'll give the user access to the product again. They, "the rep" liked that I had such a feature for my product!

Anyways long story short the investigation went on for another week or so and Paypal finely decided it was some one trying to get my product using another persons credit card and that was that!

I was fortunate enough to not have had a limit placed on my account and I am glad that Paypal is looking out for me in this regard! I don't want my product in the hands of any one who gains it by fraudulent actions.

    PS: Great Title troll! LOL

Also - don't forget that what you've described is a very popular phishing technique.

That's great to hear a Paypal story of Paypal functioning completely normally and an issue resolving itself so quickly.

This is the reason why you need a backup merchant account. I learned the hard way when I only used PayPal...now I have Google Checkout, PayPal, and another payment processor.
