Newbie Help with website Cpanel and products

I thought there was a newbie section, so I hope you all don't boot me off as Im lost.

I purchased a website with the notion that I would be walked through the process and get support when needed. Well, not the deal I bought it it was placed in a domain and hosted for me and here I go my own.

First, I know I have seo, click bank, amazon affiliate, and google adsense. my problem is what is it, where is it, and reading the sites doesnt tell me how I know I have it on my site or not.

Secondly, I go to the Cpanel, but I don't see any functions to add or fix or move anything around. I went over what I wanted with the person I bought it from and like it, but can't use it. it's suppose to be automatic hands off except for marketing.

This leaves me to my third problem. why doesn't it update like it should everyday? it's still the same since the Sept 5 th...

domain is with go daddy host is with gator if that helps.

I'm so new that being a newbie doesn't even qualify me for being as lost as I am let alone overwhelmed as all get out reign figure it out by myself.

Any help would be terrific...

Todd

    Todd,

My advice would be to look back at the ad or listing you bought the website from. If there are promises you were counting on that are not being delivered upon, then contact the seller immediately.

If you simply have a website, then the updating is part of the marketing in most cases. I would suggest finding out if you have just a website or if you have a website on a platform like Wordpress or Joomla. This will help to lead you in the right direction as to what is necessary to update your site and market it properly.

Most likely you need to take a look at the backend or the code to find out where your affiliate ads are and to change things. This is part of the learning process and I would suggest you start breaking it down into smaller pieces.

For example, start by looking for your adsense code in the actual code or in the backend if it is on Wordpress or another platform. Once you have found it, understand what it is, and where it is move onto the next thing.

Thanks for the reply. I'm almost thinking he installed all the stuff, but didn't enable them, but my scare is to start clicking and messing up if everything was already done and set in motion.

I believe I am on a word press platform. I have a list of everything that I have or should have. Can you tell certain things by seeing my site? can I pm someone my webpage to look at and get feedback?

      Thanks

      Todd

    Todd,

First go to the site your visitors go to. You can't mess anything up on it simply by clicking there, so don't worry about that. On that site, if you see "Adchoices" or "Ads by google" you have adsense installed. Adsense is contextual, meaning it tries to pick up on the topic of the page it is on. If you hover over a link and it has "hopfeed.com" in the URL you see at the bottom of your browser, you have ClickBank links installed. If you have links or pictures that say "Amazon.com", you have amazon affiliate links installed.
As for SEO, it stands for "search engine optimization", and is harder to tell if you have it on your site. The main thing to look for would be to google your site and see if it is on the first page of search results for your keyword(s). If it isn't, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't have it, because it depends on your competing websites and how much the search engines "like" them.
If you want to see if your site is running on wordpress, probably the easiest test you can do is to put "wp_admin" or/and "admin" after the trailing slash "/" of your website URL (address). If a new page comes up with a login, you probably have WordPress installed, or at least some type of script. If you get a 404 error page, you don't have WordPress installed in the main part of your directory.
If you know your login information for your hostgator back office, you can easily install a wordpress blog if you want by using the 1 click install link on the left side of your back office. You'll need to choose a user name and password for that.
Without seeing your site, I'm unable to help you more. I hope this points you in the right direction. Let us know if you need more help.

    Jim

P.S. if you want to see examples, go to my website from the link in my signature and look for the Glee blog. It has all three types of affiliate links so you can get an idea of some things to look for on your site.
