Hey peeps

So.. What am I talking about ?? ??

Blogging AND being social !

Ok, so I havent been online long.. And its only in the last 2 months I have finally made decent money online but I am seeing results like I have never experienced before

And why ??

Well theres my blog - www.DeanHolland.com .. This is the foundation of my online business

I spend no money on any form of advertising, yet day in day out I hit between about 80 - 430 visits a day

All I do is interact with others in my niche - In forums and related blogs

Thats it !! Simple right ?! Well it is, all it takes is time

Heres my number 1 tip for you... Do NOT go out there and pimp your blog.. Just DONT do it !!

Not only will it most likely get you kicked out the forums you will also find it gives no benefit to your business anyway.

You will get traffic from this method by offering value. People follow value, look at it like this... If you post on someones blog something of value, the people that read your comment will likely wonder what you have to offer on your blog ( Makes sense right ?! )

The nature of people is to be recipricol, you give to me - I'll give to you

Thats how the internet seems to be heading, people want to interact with real people !!

To help you out here are a few sites to find other blogs in your niche to participate in;

www.whostalkin.com

www.technorati.com

www.stumbleupon.com

www.delicious.com

www.blogsearch.google.com

I hope this little article helps you out... I have learned very quick that to have success you must give, give ..GIVE ... But when you received its all worth it

Good luck

Dean

    Good solid advice ther Dean.

I made my first money online by using blogging as my only advertising method.

Thankfully I've diversified my advertising now, but I'll always remember that my first online earnings came from blogging.

Thanks, Dean! I just went to your blog and printed off the how-to for masking affiliate links. I'm not a techie and most of the stuff on the c-panel at Blue Host looks like Greek to me.

I was expecting an installation type button on my cpanel for installing wordpress because on the wordpress site they claim how they've partnered with bluehost but it doesn't exist unless it's somehow possible through Fantastico.

Any chance you have a how-to on installing wordpress? Your tutorial on masking affiliate links make perfect sense to me.

      Hi,

The outline above is great if you want to be a social blogger, become popular in the blogosphere, get your blog listed in lists of great blogs on other blogs etc.

If you want to earn good money, you need to take an entirely different approach, and become an internet marketer who happens to use blog(s) to do it, and forget the idea of being a social blogger and the things that go with that.

99% of people will ignore this advice, and spend all of their time trying to be the next Darren Rowse, psoting like crazy, copying what others do with natty looking blog themes with flashing ads on the right side that no-one ever clicks and find that even when they DO get plenty of traffic, NONE of them are buyers - they are other bloggers.

It's a fundamental error that most people make - nothing wrong with that, until it's time to pay the bills.

      Dean,

Not being funny or anything, your enthusiasm is great, but put this to one side -

yet day in day out I hit between about 80 - 430 visits a day
How does that traffic translate to earnings? Are you happy with the results?

If you simply blog and ping with a quality post and a interesting headline you'll easily get at least 100 visitors for every post.

After about 30 posts you can slow down and post a couple times a week and see 2000 or more visitors per month to that blog.

    That's my experience.

And of course, it doesn't hurt to get involved with social marketing and the forums in your niche for even more visitors and exposure.

Ps. Not enough visitors? Start a small blog farm in your niche.

That's why you have to pick you niches carefully, and target solution seekers, not just information seekers. By that I mean people that are looking for information to help them solve a problem that's much bigger than just the answer to that one question.

You can combine that with the social aspects blogging excels at in certain niches for a "double whammy". Look at the number of successful and very large forums there are in certain niches to give you an idea of how certain niches lend themselves to socialization.

That can carry with it both a blessing and a curse. If you get a good reputation highly socialized niches will spread it much faster. On the other hand that's nothing compared to the speed at which the "you're shit" reputation will disseminate.

If your blog can help provide a solution and be a "go to" resource for people, you will be able to monetize its traffic. In addition, you can use the tremendous list building potential of a blog to build up a fantastic back end business.

Great post Dean! I checked out your blog and really liked your tutorial on masking affiliate links! I'm assuming that you need to install through Fantastico to set up properly. The wordpress installer seems very straight forward. Thank you! :-)

Hi, I agree with you that blogging and social marketing are great ways to promote your site.

However, this entire process can be tedious and take a long time. Unless you are prepared to only develop in one niche, then there are other better options such as article marketing, PPC, banner advertising and so on. This is especially when you own many different VRE in different niches.

I agree, it can take a long time to get traction going. But once done right, at least you should never lose it.
