Buying domain from person

I am not sure how to do this. A local business in my area is shutting down, I want their domain.

I have a godaddy account right now. I am not sure who their domain is with yet but can find that out.

How would this person transfer the domain to me?

The agree with this transaction but are not sure how to do this. Thanks.

This is all based on the assumption that you will come to terms with the seller ....

If the domain is at GoDaddy - they can push the domain to your account.

However, if they've registered the name elsewhere, you have a couple of options:

    1. Create an account where they have the domain registered.
    2. Initiate a transfer from your registrar (ie GoDaddy)

    Easy....

Goto Whois.sc and type in the domain name.

It will tell you where its erg at and IF its at godaddy it is an easy push to your account.

If not at godaddy then open a free account at that same register and IF they agree to the sale then they can push it to your account at that new reg.

if you need more help just pm me and can help you!

    Yupp...

    #Second on WebMomentum:

Once you find out what registrar their with...

    1. Create an account where they have the domain registered. (so you can have them push over the domain for free)

    or

    2. Initiate a transfer from your registrar (ie GoDaddy) - which, usually cost the renewal fee!

    Hope this helps,

The first step on their part is to turn off the fraud protection features in their godaddy control panel, which includes CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED

IT's not a bad proof of ownership for them to turn off this before you make payment.

It is usually easiest to open an account with whoever their domain is with. After you control it you can transfer the domain on your own schedule.

Find out where the domain is registered.
Create a free account at that registrar.
They can then just "push" the domain to you and the process of doing that is slightly different with each registrar, but it is simple and I'm sure there's support at the registrar that can walk you through that.

Visit the business and ask them. Real simple.

Don't go through an official route as if they filed bankruptcy then they most likely cannot sell you the domain.

Thanks everyone. It is through 1and1. I will set up an account and get them to push it to me.

LOL No one mentioned it here BUT they are the WORST to deal with.....Be prepared to go through a lot of BS and then you may not even want the domain name anymore.

I would probably use a service like Escrow.com to make sure none of you get burned (You pay Escrow.com, then the seller initiates the transfer of the domain to your registrar. Once you receive the domain you notify Esrow and they release the funds to the seller)..

      Thanks for all the advice.

Yes, I want the domain. The domain is already on the 1st page for the keyword search, so it will be worth it to buy it.

Should I use this because of 1and1 or because this will protect me with the purchase from the other person? I know the person well so I am not worried about them scamming me.

What should I be prepared for? I am assuming that even if I sign up for a 1and1 account and get the person to push the domain to me that I will have problems? what kind of problems?

      Thanks.
