Need Help - What Do I Charge For Advertising?

Hey everyone,

As a lot of you know, I have a blog in the dog market. It's really starting to take off as far as traffic goes. Today, I received an email from someone who owns a large online pet supply store asking me what I would charge to place an advertisement for his site onto mine.

This has been one of my goals. But because I've never done this and don't know the going advertising rates, I'm not sure how to respond as far as pricing goes. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what I should charge someone to place advertising on my site? I would really appreciate some ideas as I want to be fair.

I checked out the pet site and it fairly large. They even have phone in customer service...not that that's a real big deal except that tells me they probably do a lot of business.

Also, would you use PayPal or some other payment method? Offering advertisement spots was something I had planned to get around to in the future and I haven't been able to do any research on it yet. Looks like now I need to find out lol! So if anyone can give me any advice, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

It all depends on the amount of traffic you generate. Between 250-500 people a month I recommend ~$50. 500-750= $75, and so on. Make sure you remain reasonable and be open for bargaining.

Hey thanks! My traffic right now is usually between 1200-2000 visitors per month and growing. But yes I am willing to negotiate bargains.

Hmm... I know nothing about animal markets. But when it comes to advertising, people do it expecting a profit. So, how much do you expect them to profit from their advertisements on your site?

Do you have any established competitors? Why don't you contact them wanting to place similar ads, and see what they quote you?

Hey Mike that's a good idea and I've been planning on doing that. I just wanted to find out if anyone here had any experience or knows of anyone advertising on a pet or dog site right now.

just like buying cloth or furniture, get their prices first and calculate on them... then quote yours that makes you feel comfortable, this will be the starting point and you can adjust later as you learn more on how people sell their spaces in the sites.
You will be an expert on this very soon...
