Email Marketing without a Subscribed List

We have built our list from countless hours of potential customers. We would acquire a newsletter or all of the people who would be attending a conference, jot their information down and ask each individual person if they'd be interested.

Since this list wasn't acquired through a opt-in form, what do you think the best way is to approach this as an email blast situation? I was going to use mailchimp, but am afraid of being suspended.

The only problem there is Aweber will make everyone on an imported list opt-in again, and (from my experience) most won't bother.

If your web hosting account comes with Fantastico, you could try sending out your newsletter using Php List or Mailman.

As far as I know, mailchimp is the only one that allows sending emails to an imported list without having them opt-in again.

While that may be true, MailChimp would be a poor choice for other reasons.
If Icontact still allows it, I'd try them first, as it's a better autoresponder.

Constant Contact allowed you to import an offline list back in the day. I am not sure if they still allow it, but it's worth taking the time to call and ask.

Before taking action, consider legal terms. See if you won't be penalized because of your campaign.

I was about to suggest iContact, as they allow imports w/o re-opting them, but Suze beat me to it.

I use zipsender. You just need to make sure that when you contact your list, you include a disclaimer and allow them to opt-out at that time.

How many emails are we talking about here? Probably best to email them with a personalized, individual email from your own account to touch base and warm them up a bit first.

You can get them opted in later.
