How can I snag this domain when it expires?

So there are a couple domains with websites right now that have lots of incoming links, in the SE's really well, etc. I found out today the owners of these sites will most likely not be running these sites as one is nearly dead and the other is on his way to prison. I know, not good.

HOW can I make sure if these domains expire, that I get them? What is the process?

I have heard that Godaddy has a feature where you pay a certian amount and they will watch the domain for you, once the domain become available they contact you.

    Something like that?

    Hope it helps

There are a couple of specialists at grabbing expiring domain names - Snapnames.com, Enom.com and Pool.com are the ones I've seen mentioned. I guess it depends if you anticipate anyone else wanting them.

There's this article which whilst 3 years old still seems to be referenced everywhere when people ask this sort of question:
Mike Davidson - How to Snatch an Expiring Domain

You might also want to take a look to see if the registrar where the domains are currently registered have some sort of back order service.

    GoDaddy calls it backorder.
You pay 15$ or so and if the domain is not renewed, you get it. However, if the original owner renews it, you lose the 15$... something like that.

IMO Godaddy is terrible for backordering domains. They have no ICANN partnerships, etc. Use pool.com -- much better success rates.

Yes, one of the name will get people's attention...I have no doubt. That is the one I want, it expires in Apr. of this year.
