Anyone else suspicious of Sedo auctions?

2 replies
Over the last couple of weeks I have submitted numerous domains to be listed in the auctions of sedo.com however each time I get an email two days later telling me the domains don't meet their quality criteria. Now I could certainly understand this if they only reserve their auctions for really strong domains but I've been keeping a close eye on their domain auctions and there is a ton of junk in them that I wouldn't even bother registering for $4.

Its so frustrating because seeing the domains they have listed in the auctions and what people are bidding on, I know for a fact that I will sell a few domains with them so I can't for the life of me work out whats going on.

Has anyone else here experienced the same problem with sedo.com?

I'm starting to suspect that they only submit domains to their auctions if the customer if a PAYING customer - either with a featured listing, a domain apprasal or one of their brokerage services. TBH, I wouldn't mind if this was the case because then I'd consider buying a service from them but by hiding this fact and giving the impression they're auctions are free is sneaky and highly manipulative. (If they're doing it.) I'll be honest, if I knew I wouldn't be able to get into an auction I wouldn't have even bothered adding my domains with them as it would be a big waste of time.

Whats your experience with sedo.com?

    It would help tremendously if you'd post a few examples of:
    - domains that you thought were of high enough quality but were rejected;
    - "junk domains" that you've found on Sedo's auction that you wouldn't even pay $4 for.

    Without examples it's just a rant I'm afraid.

    By the way - you'll probably find a lot of people over here who wholeheartedly agree with you and say the exact same thing. And this is completely normal - I was in the exact same boat a few years back when I got almost all the domains I submitted rejected and couldn't understand why because after all, they were quality domains. And I also noticed the fact that they had, at the same time, listed a ton of domains that didn't *seem* to be worth anything at all. But over the years I've smartened up a bit

    There's a lot of subjectivity when it comes to what's junk and what's not. It could be that they have a different standard than you. For example, I've got a lot of "really" good brandable domains. I sold one a few months ago for $3500. But most domainers will tell me mine aren't worth anything. It's because they're only interested in the keyword domains that bring default traffic with them and you can move them fast. The brandables you have to sit on awhile and wait for the right buyer to come along.
