Is it bad if I use the same article on my blog and EZA

Hey Warriors,

I was wondering about the use of an original article, approximately 800 words.

Is it bad if I use the same article on EZA and on my blog, should I differentiate them, or since I'm the source it does not matter?

I believe common belief is you should re-write the article so that it is not viewed as duplicate content by Google. If it is dupe content then wherever you posted it first is unaffected, but the second posting will get less Google love.

No, it won't hurt at all if you use the same article. Duplicate content only refers to having the exact same article more than once on the same site.

Some people change their article up slightly when putting it on their blog, mainly so that it is unique content. If you want to use the exact same article in both places, it's fine. I do it all the time, and it works well for me!

Yes, agree with Tess. I use my own EZA articles to post on my blog.

If you are using article to drive traffic to your blog, make sure you submit to EZA first and get it approved then you use that article on blog, as EZA will not approve duplicate contents.

Ditto... this is what I learned and do for my own articles/blogs and it works pretty well.

Hey thanks for that tip... I will do it that way, I really don't want to spin my article, nor rewrite it.

I believe duplicate content will only refers to submitting 2 exact same articles to 2 different article directories.

Lets say you submit one article to 5 different article directories, google will only choose 1 article and the rest of the articles wont get much of google's attention. Blog and EZA are not closely correlated in a way so submitting the same articles at both site wouldn't pose much of a problem

I've been using articles on my blogs and sites and submitting the same articles to directories since 2005 with no problems at all.

John, do you post on the directory first then your blog when it has been approved?

Wrong - when you are talking about submitting your articles, duplicate content does NOT apply. It was a penalty given to certain sites, nothing to do with articles.

I submit to my site first usually - so that by the time the article is live on EZA it's indexed on my own site. Been doing that for years and never a problem.

I've tested it both ways many times with inconsistent results. Google is not consistent; however, for the most part I find that if I am using a new site or blog it's easier to get the article to rank well if I submit it to EzineArticles first. I believe this is because Google respects the authority, quality and age of EzineArticles.com so content on that site gets higher priority in the rankings than content on a new site.

I think enzinearticles do not allow the same articles, rewrite it.

I always submit to EA first and then sometimes if it gets good views I submit it to Goarticles or my blog. At any rate EA comes first.

well, duplicate content penalty or not, i dont think google really makes a habit of showing the same content twice on the same page of search results. so from my experience it pays to rewrite if you can come up with a fast method of doing so. The way i do it is to just rewrite it one sentence/paragraph at a time, saying the same things in different words.

doing that gives you much more search engine food, but its up to you to decide if its worth your time or not

im rather new at this so other people may have a different viewpoint, but i personally havent seen much tangible benefit from posting the EXACT same content unless its on a high traffic site that doesnt depend on google.

You can't plagiarize your own articles. If you want to spend time rewriting, up to you. But it's not necessary if you are just placing your own article on your site or blog and submitting it to EZA.

Actually, yes, google does do that. Look up common health conditions, pet health conditions, etc and you'll find many sites on the first page of google results have the exact same article displayed. It happens time and time again.

With your own articles the reason for submitting to EZA or other directories is twofold - first, for a link to your site and second so that other sites might pick up your article and publish it on their own site (with your bio box and link intact).

If you are talking about PLR articles where the same article is sold to hundreds of people - it's a different story and you should always rewrite those substantially.

Duplicate content penalty applied to sites where the exact same text appeared on page after page of the same site. The reason was to make the site look "bigger" and "more important" than it was (and was often used to have more adwsense pages on a site). It was an attempt to game google - and google ended the game. It had nothing to do with articles.

There are some marketers who submit to a lot of directories and do rewrite or spin articles but many of us submit only to a few top directories and place the articles on our sites and rewriting isn't a necessity to get good views and ranking for those articles.

Thanks for the insight. I'm not sure how or why it works, and I have seen this before where same article comes up especially when i search for an exact title or long-phrase match, but I have also seen cases where my identical articles (what i used to do) would not show up on the same page, but then when i started rewriting a bit and changing the title, i could have more than one on front page for same keyword

it could just be coincidence and i may just be superstitious, but for now based on my (admittedly limited) experience im sticking with rewriting being the better bet if you want to have multiple listings. I'd love to continue hearing other people's experiences though

I don't change it all. They say google will slap you on the wrist for duplicate content....but my whole objective is just to get it out there.

    Take care

I wouldn't necessarily say it's "bad", but I myself don't post the same articles to the really important sites (which I deem as my own, EZA & Squidoo).

I've noticed that one will usually rank much higher than the rest, and that usually means my site gets ignored while EZA or Squidoo gets the glory.
