Hey guys,
I understand the basic principles of RSS, however I have a question regarding RSS syndication. Im hoping that Im using the correct terminology.

I found a site a little while back that was somehow pulling content via my RSS feed, and using it to auto populate their blog. I dont mind this all that much, as I guess this is part of syndication, and Im always sure to include links back to my site within my content, however my question is....

How is this possible? Is there a site or service that allows website owners to choose certain RSS feeds for this purpose?

Lot's of products will auto feed RSS into a wordpress blog. It's the core principal of auto blogging.

WP Robot comes to the top of mind here.

Thanks Brad. As soon as I posted that, auto blogging came to mind. Is auto blogging still popular? And what sort of weight do the backlinks hold in my content if syndicated on sites such as these?

Should I be requesting the removal of my content or should I be grateful for the backlinks?

Not Brad, but here's my take...

        Is autoblogging still popular? Yes.

What sort of weight do the backlinks hold?

It depends, same as for any other type of site. A well-executed autoblog won't look like one. It will look like a kind of news aggregator that holds value for visitors by acting as a kind of authority hub for the niche. If the match between your feed and the autoblog is a good one, they can be excellent links. On the other hand, if it's one of the jillions of junk blogs, the value is pretty minimal.

Unless the site is really hideous (open or autoapprove comments with spam porn links, links stripped from your content or changed to serve the scraper, etc.), I'd leave them be.

From my understanding Google should credit your blog with the initial post (since you posted it first). But there will be a whole lot of duplicate content for those auto-blogging.

Showing content from an RSS feed is built-in in WP. With a little hacking of the template files you can always implement it - even without plugins.

Johnny, PM me if you need help/details.

      Thanks Istvan.

Im not looking at setting up an auto blog, if thats what you meant.

Im trying to get my head around this in terms of SEO, from a backlinking perspective.

      Is it beneficial?

I guess Ive just changed my original question, so I do apologise.

        Not exactly.

WP can display RSS feeds in (at least) two ways:
        - in a sidebar widget as a "newsfeed"; that's the most known because the widget is there by default
        - with any template file where the Loop is replaced by the code to show an RSS feed

Recently, somebody asked me to help to have a Page in WP that would display certain ads category from a classifieds site offering rss feeds. It just needed a custom Page template.

As for the SEO thing... I am not an expert but if your feeds are displayed on decent sites, I'd think it's good as backlink.
