Flexibility 2 is a great free theme. It is the free version of the paid version Flexsqueeze. It has features to do whatever you want, and an easy to use control panel, to control it. Just do a search in google for flexibility 2

    How do you do what?

How do you customize a theme to serve your needs? a) learn XHTML/CSS/PHP; b) outsource

Themes should be the last things to look for. First plan your site exactly (not in vague terms as you did in OP). Have a precise "image" of what your site's content should be and how it will be organized. When you have that, you will know exactly what theme you may need.

I just want one column theme which can handle up to ten services with each having their own "Order Now" button and all are visible on the home page.

Ten services = ten salespages with 10 buy-buttons... all on the home page.
    ?

    I'd think again...

(but if you don't want to, just go to wordpress.org/extend/themes/ and search for one column themes - no need to post here if you know what you want)

Maybe I am mixing things up here or probably don't know how ask the right question. Truely, I need help. Is it impossible? Please school me. I have almost zero knowledge or know-how when it comes to wordpress theme customization. I just need a theme for a service based site.

    Maybe...

If zero knowledge - you would need to outsource, in case you want specific, customized theme.

My remark regarding your plan was referring to the fact that you want to sell 10 [ten] different services: all from one page. I think that is not wise.

Take a simple, neutral themes and set it up to make this work:
    - make a Page where you have a short intro and some general info about your services (with links)
    - select this Page as your frontpage (wp-admin > Settings > Reading)
    - make a separate (sales) Page for all your services with a Buy Now button that you create in Paypal
    - create another, empty Page and make it your "posts page" (see above) > then make categories for your services and post sample works, ideas, tips related to those services

The default 2011 theme that comes with the WP package makes by default your Pages one-column (i.e. no sidebar). Plus you have 3 widget areas in the footer, for example for recent posts, links, whatever.

Do you have the sales pitches written for all your ten services?
Do you have an About page content written already?
Do you know what will you do as posts?
Did you create and save all the Paypal buttons?

When I said in an earlier post to PLAN that website and have drawn/written on a piece of paper what the heck you want... I meant that YOU would figure out your site's structure, instead of me. It is NOT WordPress knowledge. It is general business basics: sit down, think, plan, write it down.

You are just throwing around vague and half-baked ideas and you expect that the theme would do the work for you. No theme will do that...

Thanks for your time. I will take your advice but just writing was never going to hard.

I guess I will just have review other site that sell services so that I have an idea about the structure and layout.
