How long did it take you to go full time IM

It took me almost a year. Started part-time and then when the income got decent swiched to Full time and never looked back.

Make sure that you have passion and you love what you do, so you never notice the time..That you almost made it! patience was also needed.

First we have to translate time to money, in time terms it usually takes about a year (10hours/day) if you know what You are doing.

In money terms depends how much you value your time.



No matter if you do all by yourself or outsource it takes time.

If you put in the effort then there is really nothing stopping you from being able to go full time after a few weeks/months. Take some time at the start to learn the basics and then get to it!

It took me two years but you really need to discipline yourself. Its easy to procrastinate and fool around when you work for yourself because you are only accountable to you. Make sure you have your business entity set up with a business bank account. You need to treat it like a business and not a hobby.

dropped out of uni after two years, I'm doing IM fulltime as of that moment

i started when i was 17 and right after school. i went officially full time when i was 21.
i guess i am a slow learner compared to others.

I wouldn't go by the calendar. Go by income - when it's roughly equivalent to your 9-5 gig, and the sales/income are fairly steady and consistent - then it's time to write your letter of resignation. Not before. Not in this economy.

It took me two years, but I didn't start out trying to make money, I built a hobby site first. I would have went full-time sooner if I was single, but I had a family to support so I made my online income prove itself as reliable over time before jumping in with both feet.

Thanks guys, when I reach $20 a day everyday on average, i'll be able to do this full time, until then I guess it'll be a grind.

After I get more money from my salary to work in an office., that's where I started full time in the IM.

It took about 2 years before I started doing this full time. What a journey...

I remember looking back at the bad times now, and although they really sucked I must say that my experiences got me to where I am now. Not just the good ones, but all of them.

I learned from my mistakes.. Some people will have to make them over again before they learn their lesson, but eventually they will figure it out. All it takes is some hard work and perseverance.

Nearly 10 years, but that is because I was not putting much time in for the better part of 9 of those years. Once I decided to make it a goal of mine it took me many 6 months to quit my job and go full time from home.

If all you need is $20 a day to do this full time I honestly think you could get there in a matter of months... that isn't a lot to get and there are a lot of products where you will make twice that or more for a single sale...

Using that math you only need to make about 4 sales a week.... if you can convert at even 1% that is only 400 (targeted) visitors a week (or 58 a day) you need to your site or wherever you are selling it... and that isn't that hard to do with stuff like forums and facebook etc to help you out...

It took me about a year and a half to go full time, but I was replacing a 25k a year job so my goals were higher, and the first 6 months was spent just reading and being scared to try anything out! LoL!

In the time it took me to think the thought which is a split second, I was full time in IM. Reality and other things in my life did not afford me the opportunity to approach IM with the idea of growing my IM income to replace my existing income, but that's a whole different story in itself. Needless to say, it make it happen or live in a cardboard box. I made it happen.

It took me 3 years , I needed money just in case did not work out

i was 16 when i started and it took me almost 3 years, in start IM work was just hobby, i started learning and doing everything as a free lancer, like in start i did photoshop work, logo designing, pictures retouching etc, than i started webdevelopment than adsense, affliate marketing, seo and than website flipping etc, but as i stated i was 16 when i started so i wasnt worried about making money that much so never tried or worked hard it was just fun..but when things changes suddenly and i realised now i m on my own, than i started applying for jobs (but in IT, all they want is experience) until a friend of mine asked me how he can make money online via Adsense..so that time i thinked of IM seriously so after 15 to 20 days i was making almost 1k per week..so my point is it depends on your circumstances, how much you are in need of money...but for sure you have to know some basic stuff which can take few months...

This method i am suggesting takes maybe a month to start going full time before having autopilot money coming in daily, weekly or monthly depending on your performance. I think the best way to Internet marketing in my opinion is through autopilot which means through selling your own product. I mean I seriously hate blogging and I will never start one again (no offense) because it seriously kills your time daily to post on it and thats not how i would take advantage of internet marketing since it can do wonders by going autopilot while you are sleeping or on a holiday. So by investing maybe less than 100$ for your auto responder, website and additional optional materials, you can set up an autopilot website that sells your product and has a auto responder that you fill things to send to your subscribers which needs minimal updating. Your product should take awhile to create with good quality while being original, prepare your production your computer, save the documents of the sales letter, ezines and etc and have a note pad with you whenever you have an idea so that you jot it instantly. Creating a product can take awhile like a month of part time daily bigots definitely worth it. Then Research your competition, make sure you have a better sales page than them in terms of keyword density and other aspects and create an army of affiliate for your product. improve from the best that's all I advise to stay on top, model their sales letter and beat them out. In the end, sit your ass back and just watch the cash flood your account! Now that's the real Internet marketing, good cash + minimal time spent (autopilot). If it's blogging or doing freelance, you are going to write a whole lot of content daily that carrying a laptop everywhere seems like a normal thing, would you want that? Consider this method and you will never look back!

I didn't go full IM until I lost both of my jobs back in 08. I took that as a personal wake up call and dedicated myself to making a full time income from home.

But enough of my rambling. To answer your question you can go full time IM when you decide to dedicate yourself to it in my opinion.

Hopefully less than 6 months. That's when I get kicked out.

I can see myself making about $300 a month in maybe a month or two from now. That's a good start.

Took me three years of hard, hard work.

I am not surprised that a huge percentage of people who start end up giving up.

I didn't make a penny for the 1st 2 years though. So just 1 yr when I final "got it"

Oh by the way, it is very important you have 6 months of cover for your bills, food and etc before you quit your real job and go full time. Just a quick tip so that you don't make mistakes that others made!

You guys all talking YEARS to reach full time, that's really depressing stuff. No offense but it sounds like you weren't doing it right. Maybe as a new IM'r i'm spoiled with the vast amount of info on the net etc...but if it takes me 3 years to succeed in IM, that's a serious problem.

IM is all about learning what works for you and just doing it. It took me about a year to start making enough money online to call it a job.

I went full time once I reached $6K a month. And, it took me about 6 months to do it. However, I did have help doing it. I had a mentor, someone who really knew what to do. So, you can count me as lucky. But, my guess is that 1 to 2 years before you reach your ideal income bracket is acceptable.

Dunno, maybe 3 or 5 years...

I cant wait to get full time!

A few years for sure..and I think I got really lucky that I got hooked up with a very smart marketer and well connected person that helped get me to full time and work with him to start an offline SEO company way back before there was any offline wso's!!! We got in way before anyone else did (except David Preston and Willie Crawford!).

Otherwise I might still be struggling to make a living in IM. I think I was also forced into IM with losing my job which is a common story amont a lot of full time IM'ers. There are a million ways to make money in IM and I think the key is to focus on just one and master it and become the best at it and not try to do more than one thing at a time.

it took me 2 solid years of real effot...but before that, i was studying IM half-heartedly for 7 years on and off...but once i put my mind to it...it took me 2 years...
