My Facebook account... Personal, business or both

My Facebook account is a mixture of:

* Friends who know nothing about IM
* Some of my offline clients
* And internet marketers I've gotten to know over the past couple of years.

Do you think it's better to have seperate accounts, one for business and one for personal, or to keep them all on one account?

I'm asking because I'd like to ramp up my FB marketing efforts, but fear that I may annoy my friends with all of our IM jargon.

Right now i have 194 friends, most of them are personal friends from Germany where I spent a good part of my life. The posts on my wall are a mixture of English business related messages and personal messages written in German.

What do you think is the best thing for me to do?

Appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance.

Stewart

I would keep them all under one account. It is against FB TOS to have 2 accounts. Also they just added a list option (or whatever they are calling it) it's kind of like the circles thing in Google+ so you could add all your business friends to one list and all your personal friends to another then just post your IM stuff so only your business friends can see it. Then you won't have to worry about annoying your personal friends with the IM jargon.

Funnily enough, I created different list from the day I opened the account and everytime i added someone or got an add request, I placed them in the following lists:

      1. Friends
      2. Family
      3. Business

So based on what you're saying, i can now segment what each list has access to. Is that correct? any pointers on the new list option feature you mentioned. where do I find it.

I'm still open to other suggestions, so please keep them coming.

      Thanks

To post to just one list, when you write your post in the lower right hand corner of the post box it says "friends" with a dropdown arrow. Click on it and a dropdown menu will appear and then just choose the list you want the post to go to.

        • Thanks for that.

Does this new feature stop my personal friends from seeing post on my wall from my business contacts too?

I would also suggest to have them in one account unless you want multiple identity..

I have several facebook accounts i use for every niche im am in. As far as I know Facebook has no restrictions on how many accounts you can have. I also have one main account i only use for facebook ad marketing.

FB TOS number 2 under "Registration and Account Security

"You will not create more than one personal profile"

I don't think they enforce it but not really worth taking a chance on losing your account that you put so much work into when you can keep everything separated in one account and comply with the TOS

if you are smart enough to create multiple accounts on different IP`s everything will be fine.
You need multiple accounts especially if you promote in a lot of niches. When you reach a certain level you can then hire someone to take care of your accounts/fan pages

Things are always changing on Facebook - so there's no right or wrong way to do it - just what works for you. With that said let me share a few of my best practices:

On my personal profile I have lists. I keep my friends an family separate from my target customers.

You can use a Facebook Business Page to list build and do heavier marketing.

You can use your personal profile to stay connected with influencers and keep people talking.

    Hope this helps.

Personally, I use a page and a profile. My friends already hate me for blasting them with my network marketing business, but they are forgetting about that since I opened my business page.

You could use the list function, but Facebook's recent update makes it almost hard to get your message across anyways.. Then again, using the list function is great if your lists are viewing their lists that you are on.

Its weird lol but I have noticed a sharp decrease in likes and responses on my page and my profile... It's because they can tune out those who are not on their lists.

It's definitely against terms to have multiple profiles and many people I know have gotten both accounts shut out for that.

I would strongly suggest creating a page for yourself. Even use your same name and everything, but suggest those who are interested in your business to like that instead as your posts will be exclusively on the page. Creates urgency and gets the more serious people to pay attention.

      Excellent advice!

That sounds like a good solution to my dilema. Now I'm going to have to figure out the whole Fan Page marketing stuff. Have never taken too much notice of it until now.

My FB account has my first name, last name as the url facebook.com/stewartalexander. Are you saying I should creat ea fan page called stewart alexander, or as I'll be using the fan page for business purposes, is it better to call the fan page after my business name?

      Thank for the feedback.

If you have a business name, then yes I would recommend using that. I keep forgetting that not everyone is marketing theirselves like I do, so again use your business name, with maybe your name in parenthesis?

You can change the page title anytime, but not the URL so choose that carefully.
