So when do you start broadcasting?

Not broadcasting stuff on the radio and TV, I mean sending out broadcasts to your list (campaigns).

What holds me back from sending out campaigns too early is that my list is too small and I won't get many purchases.

This also may mean that I risk looking a bit cheap as I'll try to promote the same affiliate product further down the line. Those that received my sales pitch the first time may unsubscribe if they receive it twice.

Right now I'm just wondering how to manage this. Is it best to only broadcast your campaigns to those on your list that are out of the autoresponder (say for example, those that subscribed over 3 weeks ago)?

I'd be interested to see how everybody does it.

    I use both a sequence of autoresponders and also send
    out broadcasts to relevant segments of my lists.

    I use broadcasts in cases where I have timely content
    and offers that may be of value to my list segments.

    I use sequenced autoresponders to take people through
    a series of e-mails designed to accomplish objectives,
    e.g. sell a lead product, build trust, etc.

    On some lists, I have new subscribers go through an
    autoresponder sequence only for the first 30-days.
    Once the 30-days are up, they are then able to receive
    the rest of the autoresponder sequence and any "live"
    broadcasts I send out too.

    So will I, so I'm pleased you started this thread.

    I seem to remember, last time this was discussed here (depuis longtemps?), being surprised by how many people were regularly using large numbers of "broadcasts" rather than just timed autoresponder series.

    I rarely send "broadcasts". Only when there's something particularly time-sensitive I want to communicate to a list of subscribers.

    You don't need to be concerned about this, if you just send a timed autoresponder series. It's a problem that arises only with broadcasts.

    Again, it seems to me that this potential problem arises only if you routinely use broadcasts.

    Mine are never "out of the autoresponder". I send timed autoresponder messages to all of my lists every 5 days, for ever.

    I appreciate that many people don't do this, but even so, 3 weeks seems terribly short for an autoresponder series? :confused:

    Like Shaun said, broadcasts are mainly reserved for time-sensitive or ephemeral items. Evergreen items get a place in the timed sequence.

    Send out nothing, and how many purchases do you get?

    Don't take this wrong, but you may be overestimating your impact on your subscribers' inboxes. Unless your pitches are very repetitive and too close together, most people won't remember when you sent the last one. Especially the non-buyers. Buyers should be moved to a buyers-only list anyway, if possible.

    It depends on the circumstances.

    If you, as product owner, or the vendor run a special, time-limited sale, do you want to refuse the opportunity to buy at the sale price to the folks who haven't finished your planned sequence?

    On the other hand, I'll usually wait for the planned sequence to run its course before broadcasting a weekly or monthly newsletter. Mostly because the newsletters tend to offer distractions, which is often like seeing the sequel before the original.

      It is often the same knowledgeable guys that reply to my threads, and I'm pleased it is

      So everyone has a different style.

      Alexa - you are on the perma-autoresponder thing, and that is what I'm trying with my biggest list. Thank for telling me why. I was wondering if I should keep doing it.

      John, Shaun - thanks too. I'll keep your techniques in mind for other lists, maybe a bit of experimentation with some honed new niches can help

        I think it depends, at least to some extent, on the "urgency" of the niche, too, to be fair. I'm not dealing with "avoid house foreclosure" which tends to be fast-moving because it's an "emergency niche" (though I dare say its customers can have various other stuff promoted to them, too ...).

        But I do make a surprising amount of income from people who've been on lists for a really long time. It's well worth my while continuing with them.

        I even have a niche in which I make more, overall, after the first 12 emails than I do during them.

          Is AWeber the gold standard?

            Just a little tip, but it'll help you: do a search for threads with the word "autoresponder" in their titles. You'll have plenty to read, answering that question.

            Pretty much. As I remember, the last time we had a big poll on "What autoresponder do you use?", Aweber came out on top with far more votes than all the others added together.

    If it's a product/offer that isn't time sensitive, I just add it to the AR sequence.

    If you're thinking you might be promoting this again down the road, then that tells me it is probably something that should consider adding to your AR (well, that's how I do it).

    That being said, I'm a lazy-ass marketer - but it's all worked quite well for me none-the-less

    I set up the autoresponder sequence straight away, before anybody has joined the list.

    I also set up blog broadcast, so they are automatically emailed about new posts.

    And I use the standard broadcast for special offers and gathering research data.
