Denial of Service attack (NOT distributed) hit my site
Sup guys.
Stats: CPANEL
Host: Host Gator
Type: Shared Hosting
DOS: someone hit me with like 20,000 hits over the last few days. (10k one day, 10k other day. From the same group of IPS.)
The hits came from three VERY similar IP addresses out of California.
This really sucks; I didn't notice the huge hit until much later, but I wanted to know if you guys have any advice to avoid that type of stuff in the future? Am I the only one who's been attacked by a DOS? I know DOS attacks are kind of weak and a DDoS is much more severe, but I'm still kinda mad. :p
I don't intend on taking legal action (though I could, I have their IP address logged via 3 different tracking systems.) I just want this punk to piss off really.
Does anyone know how to avoid this type of stuff with CPANEL? I blocked their IP range using the "Deny IP" function in CPANEL; and will wait to see if they go away.
I'm kind of shocked Host Gator didn't block this! Shouldn't they block an IP after their 1000th hit?
