How to deal with a client selling new product online?

Hello warriors, I am new memeber but lets get right to point of my dilema.

I have a client that has a product which is new on local market, there is little of search done so adwords is not a good option. Also SEO doesnt help much as first position in SERP wouldnt bring much traffic.

My idea is to make some public awerness of this product, through articles and banners on other relevant sites to this product. Maybe also some viral marketing. Client is mostly satisfied with this idea that we need to spread awerness for this product. My problem is that i would like to work on budget, and say ok you invest 2000$ for a month and I'll bring you as much traffic and awerness as I can for this money. But this is pretty blurry for them and they want much exact offer. Problem is that I can't know how much each site would ask for a banner or some article to be published and this would just take too much effort just to make an offer for a job.

How to deal with this, what to say to them to make them more secure in what they are taking from me?

You should consider working on retainer, just make a proposal and see what they think - if it doesn't work for them they'll let you know and you can modify it

Also, check out the offline marketing section of the forum if you're trying to do a lot of local marketing.

You might want to just charge them a fee for managing their program and then have the actual advertising costs online separately paid by them. For example, you might charge them $500 to manage their campaign and have a budget of $2,000 for advertising.

    Some local ideas:
    - local directories like Chamber of Commerce and other business directories
    - local twitter connections using tools like Geochirp
    - go to local tweetups (find on Tweetvite)
    - YouTube videos with local keywords
    - local forums

Make sure you track conversions, NOT traffic for each campaign so you can dump the ones that don't bring you a positive return on investment.
