Bulk emailing: does it work?

Hi,

Im considering using a company that rents out and send bulk emails to opt-in subscribers.

I'm thinking of paying for 500,000+ email package. I've been told that it's a targetted email list.

What I want to know is has anyone actually used such a service? If so, what were the results like?

BTW, I'm talking about IM product, i.e. make money online product being the subject of the email campaign.

Also, I'm not trying to get sign-ups I'm going for sales i.e. readers can follow a link from the email to my sales page.

If anyone has personally used such a service for the IM niche I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. I don't want to knwo how much you made (or didn't) but things like open rates and CTR.

    Well, how 'targeted' can a 500,000 subscriber list be? Even the biggest IMer have lists that are less than a tenth of that. I mean it could happen, but it would cost a ton to build a targeted list that size. Does it seem like the company invested that much?

    Well, the list is targetted as in people who have expressed an interest in business opportunites - apparently.

    I've no list myself and was looking for a 'jump start', as it were.

    There must be fellow WF members who've used such services and I would just like to know what their experience was like.

    Problem is that I find posts on the WF about renting email lists and lots of comments saying things like 'don't do it, waste of money' and 'better to build your own list'.

    Of these, the latter makes perfect sense but will also reqiure considerable time to build.

    But, I've not found any posting from anyone who says they've actually used such a service.

    Anyhow, I hope someone who has used them will reply as I'd really liked some feedback from those who've been there, done that.
