Looking for headline creation tools

If you take a look at a lot of WSOs and minisites, you'll see a lot of cool looking headlines in .png or .jpg form. You know the ones: Big red and black text, sometimes pieces of text have a yellow background behind them...

I'd like to know how people are generating these. Is there a special piece of software for this? I found something called the SalesPress plugin (I'd post the link but my post count is too low, you can find it easily on google) which ALMOST does what I'm looking for, but unfortunately it's a little too limited in its functionality for me.. I guess the alternative is to just pay someone to do these headlines, but I suspect there's a certain piece of software (or maybe even a photoshop template?) that's being used to generate these things, given how similar a lot of them look.

Ha, you know what? This free tool is actually the EXACT SAME ONE that's included in the SalesPress plugin! If I'd known this was free, I probably wouldn't have dropped ten bucks on that.

But once again, this tool is pretty limited in what you can actually accomplish... doesn't even let you resize your image. There's gotta be SOMETHING else out there to do this sort of thing.. right?

The only way to get complete customizability is to either create it yourself in a graphics editor like Photoshop or pay someone to design it for you.

Mike has got it exactly right. I mean, sure, there are some generators that will get the job somewhat done, but that's not what you want. You want complete control over your graphics, so making them yourself or outsourcing them on the cheap is a good alternative

Try googling free photo graphics editor" without the quotes. I did and got quite a few returns that looked like they'd work.

This site has a lot of freeware graphics programs:
Freeware downloads Graphics and Photo - Image Editors at SnapFiles.com
They seem to be for graphics, but there's a second link at the bottom to 50 more software programs that I didn't look at.

A search for "free text graphics editor - brought up some good looking options, too. Angel Writer is a free text editor allowing you to create impressive documents looks promising.

Sorry I don't have any specific ones - I thought I did, but can't find them.

        I'm with mike here.

To fully customize your graphics you have to create them by yourself and photoshop is the way to go.

        Best,

There are good alternatives to Photoshop if you don't want to pay for it.

I actually like Adobe Fireworks better- seems easier.

You can also use Gimp, and Sumo Paint works well for a lot of stuff too.

I used to to do all the text effects in powerpoint, then take a screenshot. I've taken the time to learn photoshop now and it's much more satisfying

They all make the graphics via Photoshop. The most successful font to use for headlines is Myraid Pro Black and to highlight text they use brushes or custom pictures that other marketers made. To make underlines and circles you can either use graphics from packages others supplied or find some cool brushes and test drive it yourself. I hope this helps.
