Creating a PDF File with Clickable Links - Help Please!

Wow. I am amazed at this entire forum. I hope that soon I will be able to contribute something useful because I'm feeling the need to give back because I'm continuing to learn so much from all of you.

Anyway...I'm working on my eBook and I was wondering how I can turn it into a PDF with clickable links? Is there a free way to do this? I'm thinking purchasing Adobe Acrobat would be of tremendous help but I can't spend the money just yet.

*I know how to create links in a document but I've tried creating a PDF before and it doesn't allow the links I've created to be "clicked through". Make sense?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

If I recall correctly, links need to be complete to become clickable upon PDF creation. That is, they need to be http://www.yourdomain.com/go/link etc and the PDF will parse and place the links correctly.

Hey you don't need to purchase no expensive software.

All you need to do is download open office. Install it then open your word documents and export it as a pdf file and you are done.

I find PDF995 very useful. You can get it free - the free version pops up ads as you write I think, but they're not in the finished book. You can pay $9.95 to get rid of the pop ups if you find them annoying. I actully paid $19.95 for something extra but I'm sure if I ever use the extra something. I just write something (I used either wordpad or microsoft word - I forget now as it's some time since I last created a pdf) and then use 995 to turn it into a pdf. It goes in your printer folder. To turn your text into a pdf, you go to print and choose the 995 icon instead of your printer. Simple, quick and easy. If I can do it a trained monkey could.

You can put hyperlinks in, as normal. I've never tried anchor links but I'm sure they'd work.

Get the free version to try it out.

Not sure what word processing software you're using, but if it's Word 2007 you can get a free add-in for it here:

Download details: 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS

This allows you to just do a 'Save As PDF' and it turns the document into a PDF file whilst retaining embedded hyperlinks, which I could never get to work before.

Does this allow you to do this by including an 'anchor text' link in your PDF (eg CLICK HERE) rather than, www. mysite . com

pdf 995 is really good if you want to encrypt the finished document and prevent copying and piracy. Otherwise Open Office is easy to use but a bit clunky. If you want real simplicity and you have a Google account just open up your account and try Google Docs - also free and you can export your doc in several formats including pdf.

Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs! I didn't know that. Must be the extra things I paid for that I never use. Or even know what they're for.

With pdf995 you just download signature995 also free if you don't mind 20 seconds of ads. This will encrypt your pdf, prevent copying and allow you to password the doc if you wish. It also retains any clickable links.

I took Dean up on his free offer of PDF Creator and I started and completed my first ebook yesterday. Very pleased with the results - very easy to use also.

I was able to type my ebook right into the program and save it in the rtf format (which I could open up in Word as well) and then I could just open that file up into the PDF program to make necessary edits and then I saved it as a PDF when I was completely finished.

    Thanks again!
