Hey all,

Just secured a .com domain with my full name, 5 years for 12.99.....now I just need to think of something to do with it. Any ideas?? I repair computers and video game consoles, maybe advice on how to fix them. Wat do you think?? How would I market this in future?? Thanks in advance for any help.

It depends on what you want to do. You could monetize it with adsense or affiliate links, you could offer a service like repairs, or you could offer products in an ecommerce store. Just decide what you would enjoy most & focus on that.

Your suggestion sound good, you could incorporate tools and services that may help them with their computer and video console problems. Research issues faced by people in this niche, and point them to businesses that can provide solutions to their problems.

Congrats on securing your domain! Now, what to do. It depends on what you want to do.

There are a lot of avenues you could go down. You could build a simple website that enables you to position yourself as the 'expert', and write articles to direct traffic to yourself. Ideas for articles:
    1. Common repairs
    2. Why game consoles break and how to avoid it
    3. Three things to do bringing your broken computer to the shop to get fixed
    4. Laptops v Tablets: what each excels at

I think you get the idea.

You could also set up a blog and write about some of the most common things you see while fixing these things. Everyone has a computer and most people have had problems with their computers (or will). I think you could be in a great position again to position yourself as the expert. To monetize, you could throw up some adsense ads, or become an affiliate. You could even write an ebook and sell it.

There really are countless directions you could go. I would think about what you want your site to do. Is it to drive more business to your repair business, or is it something to do on the side? I think once to determine what you want and how much time you want to invest, the answer might be a little more clear.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

Just note that you want to start a business that you have the option to sell
    in the future.

If you are going to be building it up in the computers market, I would get a domain that is relevant to that.

You should always control your own domain for protection anyway.

  • I've always been fond of those sites where you can ask questions about how to repair this or that thing...and the site owner makes money by selling the parts. List that under "business models I wish I'd thought of." Such sites get a lot of traffic because they reference specific brands, model numbers, etc.

If you are doing this offline, i would say prep the domain up for a county or state targeting. This way, you can easily get customer around the place where you stay.

If you are targetting everyone, then get a product that you can sell ready.

Marketing: Get camtasia, and start by providing easy tutorials on simple problems for PC/ or Mac and post them to youtube and other video sites. From there, link them back to your website, and collect optin. Give some valuable content as well, and recommend people to get what you are selling

p/s- Try to open a FB fanpage as well, and direct your prospects and customer's to ask questions there as well. Be their "online-fixit guy". You will get promoted when they ask question and get free "like"
