Getting Lots of Trendy Traffic

Hello my fellow WF friends, I am a blogger and I have used this technique to get chunk of traffic over the last few years. Here's how,

If we add a popular trending keyword/phrase in our blog post, it automatically receives a lot of search engine traffic. For an example, I have a blog on social media, I created a post that says:

"THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN! How To Reboot And Do Fresh Start With Social Media"

~here I compared how you can REBOOT your old campaign just like they are doing a spiderman reboot. After that I am getting a good chunk of google traffic, without doing any SEO, links or social media.

I have seen such thing doing in other blogs like, popular movie names, event etc. One time Facebook was banned in my country, I posted about it and got like 1000 extra uniques in one day.

The only downside of this method is: You get traffic who are interested in another thing.

If you are going crazy for traffic, and want any traffic then this will help. You can easily modify your posts and name them using popular search trends.

If you get more views and traffic, it's a natural indication to search engines that your site is good. And if you ever need to sell your site, you can use the traffic volumes to sell your site.

So what do you think about this technique?

I am confused. Why would you waste all that time driving the wrong sort of traffic to your site? Surely you are looking for targeted visitors who will actually buy or subscribe to something of yours?

Point taken my lady, well I am not doing it for every posts just every once in a while. I hear lots of people want to know how to get traffic, so just thought of sharing a trick.

Not any traffic... they (people you heard from) are just lazy to tell you what they really want, because it would involve two words: targeted traffic.

If you have any stats, just watch the bounce rate for those "visitors"!

Once I had an affiliate that bought some cheap traffic from an Asian country to one of my products. It was a traffic of thousands in a short period, each spending less than a second on the site, no sales (of course) - and I ended up banning this idiot. Food for thought.

I think that technique is kinda pointless. The traffic you get isn't targeted even in the least. So it's no good and everyone that visits the site is going to immediately click the back button.
You say you do it so SE will think your site is good. But they are also going to see an excessively high bounce rate and think your site is junk. So it kinda defeats the purpose of getting the traffic.
If you use that kind of traffic to try to sell your site it's just deceiving people and that's just asking for bad karma.

Ryan, I know this is non-targeted traffic, but what if I can make some of those visitors stick to it? They are not searching for such info but sometimes they may look at this and may continue to a diff direction. When I search the web sometimes, I come across a website different than what I am searching, I stick on it if that topic makes me interested. Does that happened to you anytime.

Again, I am not completely relying on this method. It's just an occasional spark in a few months.

You might get a person here or there that will stick. Maybe a couple out of a thousand but SE seeing the bounce rate I think your going to do more harm then good.

Just think about it if you are searching for The Amazing Spiderman and you click a link and land on a page about Dog Training are you going to stay on that page? How many people do you think are going to stay on that page?

Your better off doing the extra work and getting targeted traffic to the site. Then you'll at least have a chance at getting some conversions.
