noob getting started.

Hello all,

First I wanted to say a big thinks to the owner and all the contributing members here. What a great site.

I was speaking to a web designer about trying to make a little money off a website, he pointed me here.

Now the good and bad.

The Good... ALL the info here, the BAD....ALL the info here.

What started out as a journey of "Just start a blog and get some adsense" has turned into not knowing what way to turn or go.

Total Information overload.

So I would like to see if someone could answer a few basic questions for me:

1. Are most of the successful people here from the Marketing background? My skill set is more networking geek stuff....not creative marketing.

2. Tools most used for this IM stuff. keywords/market research/automation/etc.....

3. How do you determine what "market" you want to be in? I've read that you need to be passion about it, other say "what pays the money", etc....

I know these are really beginner questions, but thats me at the moment. I've read some posts, and I have set up a wordpress site & automated it with WP-o-matic. It works, but it needs a lot of fine tuning before I launch anything. I guess I'm trying to give myself the best chance I can when I do launch it.

Thank you all for posts and stories. This is what forums should be. So thanks in advance.

What ever you decide to do online to make money it will involve some type of persuasive writing. So I recommend starting with article marketing to affiliate products. Learn how to make money with article marketing first then many doors will open up for you.

    For starters,

JUST GET OUT THERE AND DO SOMETHING...

You can always go back and change.

Adsense blogs are ok...they can be improved once they are started by building a list with them, selling affiliate products, etc. However, you need to have the blog and the traffic first.

    To answer your questions

    1. I doubt most are from a marketing background. Marketing is taught in the trenches/real world...not in college. You or anyone can learn marketing.

    2. Keywords= Google Keyword Tool
    Autoresponder (automated email tool)= Aweber.com
Documents= MS Word 2003 (most people don't have 2007 so save in .doc)
PLR= find some good plr websites to get free content to start your biz with

These are good starter tools...plus this forum. Usually that will take care of itself.

    3. What market?

Well both of your ideas (passion vs. getting paid) are both accurate. You have to find a mix. One idea I use to find niches is to look at the newsstand at a bookstore. Look at the magazines. If there is a magazine, it's a viable niche. Look inside the mags for micro-niches or product ideas. This usually helps me out really well.

Hope these answers give you some ideas/hope.

Feel free to Private Message me if I can help you out! My ecourse is a good starting point on the system the gurus use (listbuilding combined with article marketing...articles are cheap/free so it's a good newbie starting point).

    Take care,

    Thanks for all the replies.

I do have my site set up and functional, now its just time to tune it up.

Thanks for the google research links, I'll have to play around and see what happens or where I fall into.

I'm all for "trying" and "failing", I prefer it to being Trying and "Learning".

So the question isn't 'if', its how long before it takes off.

My writing is definitely going to need some work...along with sales pitches.

You might want to start with writing articles online. Check out AssociatedContent.com and Suite101.com for starters. No cost to register and start writing for them, and you can practice with keywords and generating traffic. You can also make a little cash.
