POLL: Do you prefer to use hyphens or an alternative TLD if your primary domain choice is taken?

You just performed extensive research on the perfect .com domain name. There is no competition and plenty of money ready to come your way. Nice, easy, low hanging fruit.

You go to your domain registrar and type in perfectdomain.com. Oh no, it is already taken! Looks like someone bought the domain and has done nothing with it. Goes to figure the domain expires in 10 years, too.

What is your second choice for buying perfectdomain.com?

If you voted Other TLD, explain which TLD and why.

If you don't plan on doing a lot offline marketing for your website, or video marketing where you need to mention the URL of the site, I think using hyphens is fine. If the non-hyphenated version isn't even ranking for anything then you could be successful with it.
