Other Newbies On Here - Can you help?

I've been reading and reading and reading on this forum and just recently started posting.

Now, I'm asking other newbies, with all this information and all the information everywhere, where did you start.

I've purchased a couple programs already and signed up for a few more, spent around $3000 or so, so far, but in all of them, I get to a point where I don't understand what they are saying and getting customer service to explain in none tech language has been a challenge.

I have created some blogger blogs, a couple wordpress blogs but don't know how to add plugins or sign up boxes to them, I created a free site on yola.com and have purchased domain names and have a hosting account and an aweber account.

However, I'm still not making any money to speak of.

I'm soing keyword research and have created some animoto videos too and put them on youtube.

All these things were from following instructions in some course I purchased.

So any help for a single process, or what has worked for you would be helpful.

Please so not respond with something else to buy.

:-)

    Stop buying Sheeze $3000!

Take JUST ONE of those programs you spent money on and spend the next two months making sure you get it right. 100% right.

Then you can start on the next one.

P.S. I am a newbie - yet to make money

Duh! Given the simplicity of your answer and my off line business experience, I should've come to this on my own. I guess when I came to a stop on it and couldn't get help from support it....well, I just looked for a less frustrating way. But this is very good advice. Thank you.

This is actually a pretty good advice.

You should first try to stick with one program and master it. This way you will begin to understand what really works and what doesn't.

This is exactly what I've been doing since Diana gave me that advice. I went back to the very beginning of the most expensive course I purchased only this time, with all the advice I got here, I had in mind the exact thing I was going to do with the information for now anyway. :-)

I think you need to take it one step at a time, spending all those money are just making the product owner richer. Take one method at a time and follow it through until you start seeing more results rather than keeping buying products and keep circling around your online project without moving anywhere. Hope this helps?

A lot of things are best learned by doing.

I get to a point where I don't understand what they are saying and getting customer service to explain in none tech language has been a challenge.
Forget customer service. Use google and you will find just about all your answers for free. Youtube has tons of tutorials as well.

but don't know how to add plugins or sign up boxes to them, I created a free site on yola.com and have purchased domain names and have a hosting account and an aweber account.
Youtube will show you how to add plugins, Aweber has videos and awesome phone/customer support.

You should be focusing on just one campaign to start. One niche, one main site (most likely). Those web 2.0 properties get created to promote and help push the main site.

When you are starting, focus is key. Spreading yourself too thin on a lot of different things will take you longer IMO.

If you research properly on just ONE topic, you will know in the first week if it is worth a 3 month investment - and I dare say you will know not only if it will make you money but how to best make money with it.

There are so many different approaches. One course I purchased was all about creating a landing page, getting a list and promoting to the list.

That seemed great to me and I did indeed do just that. Got a few sign ups and no sales and then moved on.

I do not want to create my own product so have been promoting other people's products that I liked.

Then, I ran into difficulty getting my pages to look correctly online and couldn't get answers and so moved on.

Then there has been promoting affiliate programs via videos and I have made a little bit of money on that but not much, not enough to buy lunch. :-)

And then there is blogging and aritcle submission, just so much.

I am very good at step by step, if I had a step by step workable program that made me money, I'd do it 12 hours a day 6 days a week. :-)

you need to get a good mind map of what an online business looks like

And here is where you failed. You had a winning opt-in page to get you sign ups and subscribers and all that is left is refining the campaign and converting your subscribers. Once they are on the list you can offer to sell something related and keep testing until you find something they will buy.

                So close!

OMG! You think so because that site is till up. As a matter of fact, I got a few sign ups last week. This is very encouraging indeed!

When you say, "refining the campaign", what do you mean and more specifically, what actions would you suggest I take to do that?

                    yes you are very close

keep making those landing pages and squeeze pages

build lists and offer them stuff by email

do NOT dismiss the idea of making your own product, that will help you list build

watch the video I posted above it explains the whole structure

Wow, this is very helpful. All the responses here have been helpful. I wish I would've started posting here sooner.

Generally, I do google things, I've learned how to do much that way. On the wordpress plugin tutorials being on youtube, that is a new suggestion I hadn't thought of. Thank you so much.

    Hello fellow noobie,
I also started IM not too long ago. The most helpful information I found is actually in this forum itself. I see that you have been reading a lot in this forum, but it seems like you need to do a little more digging. All information about making money through IM is right in this forum. I promise! How to SEO, different ways to pull in traffic to your website, monetizing your website, offline marketing, etc. are all in here.

Also, it takes time and patience to make money through IM because it takes google a little bit of time to find your website and rank it through their search engine. As many warriors have pointed out, its all about how consistently you work on your website on a day to day basis.

    Hope this helped

    Good Luck!

Actually, I've done keyword research and I've gotten videos and blogs on page one of google in less than a day on a few occasions and they are still there, however, this has not made me any money, yet.

I would aways recommend you 'buddy up' with other newbies. They can often be a great support in times of frustration and stress, and yu can grow together.

However, you need to make connections with people who are ahead of you too. These are the people who have been there, and can really help you move forward.

Otherwise you may say something to your peers, such as "I'm finding it difficult to generate traffic", and you'll get lots of your buddies saying, "Me too ...".

The Warrior Forum is occupied by people at all stages, from 'newbie' to successful millioanire marketers. They can all contribute, if you ask the right questions. (Even me).

          Cheers

The War Room...I didn't even think. I figured with a name like "War Room" I wasn't quite ready for it. Is it a one time membership or is it monthly?

What exactly is it? Will it be over my head as a relative newbie?

    I dont agree I'm afraid

it is certainly possible to do multiple projects, it is a question of:

how much time do you have daily to work on online stuff?

there is no telling which will make it for you

what if you spent 3 months on one project and decided it is never going to make you money?

Good point. I sold all my other businesses and real estate so I have all day every day. I generally put 12 or more hours a day in those projects so have been doing the same with IM.

However, to be clear, I think Diane meant stick with one of the programs I purchased and learn all of it, I don't think she was suggesting I just promote one campaign or project.

However, thank you for your point. It did help. :-)

        Exactly

I am running with two projects at the moment but applying everything I am learning from ONE ebook that I got recently, to both of them.

(Edit) I have to agree with Jill's comment about spreading yourself too thin though. Two is more than enough for me but that's only because I have 3 hours a day to do this in.

Wow, you are doing this with only 3 hours a day! Good for you! May I ask, (don't answer if this in inappropriate) how long were you working on this in weeks or months before you felt more comfortable with it and got monetary results?

You see, although I've been doing this a while and have accomplised some things, I do not feel comfortable or capable with it quite yet.

I knew nothing when I joined in July this year. Now I know how LITTLE I do know

See my first post on how much money I have made

And yes, you have to become a war room member. You will kick yourself when you see what you can get in there after spending all that money

but if you are ready to commit 6+ hours why limit yourself?

People focus on one thing because they are desperate to get something, anything, that works. Instead, if you work out roughly how long each project will take to start making a profit and how many hours a day you need then you can look at running multiple approaches...

there is no telling which will make it for you

what if you spent 3 months on one project and decided it is never going to make you money?
It makes sense...I like this idea

If you can handle multiple projects at the same time, why not?

        sure

If you can make a WP blog site you can use it to make Amazon review sites, niche blogs, CPA offer sites

at the same time the OP had built landing pages and a squeeze page to start list building.

He says he has 12 hours a day available. 2 hours a day on each of the above projects would yield good rewards for consistent effort

why should he limit himself, his thinking, just because he is a newbie?

start with the end in mind! Lay out the mind map of what you what to end up with and build the elements required

ok so you ready to do 12+ hours daily, that is great!

Now make a daily schedule of tasks and allow a set amount of time

list all the steps you need to take (writing, making videos, posting to forums, learning skills, doing your social media stuff etc etc) and actually spend the hour or 30 mins daily.

Break it down, find out what it is you need to learn and go find it on Google and Youtube. Check the all-in-one threads, articles and blogs on here

    best of luck

ps stop spending money unless it is something that directly improves one of your existing projects

You need to decide on one program and stick to it. Adding plugins is easy. There is a plugin function within the Wordpress dashboard on the left-hand side that literally allows you to search for a particular plugin. After you install it, you have to activate it. You can also do this manually using an ftp client but it's not necessary as the other way is faster. Oh, if customer service isn't helpful, try Youtube. If I remember correctly, Aweber has a step-by-step thing. I think I just added the code in the sidebar.php page under the editor so that it would show up on all pages of my blog since I write my product reviews on pages rather than posts. Where you actually put the code probably varies with theme you are using. Back up your blog before you alter stuff.

    Good luck,

You need to make notes on where that traffic is coming from. If the site is ranking somewhere, which keywords are bringing in your potential customers?

You can determine this by installing some things (like sitemeter which is free).

Make a list of related things that your niche might also need to buy.

Also, what are your people getting for opting in? Do you tease them at all? Leave them hungry for a bit more? Are you building trust and have you successfully convinced them you are an authority on what ever topic you are bringing them in on?

Have you tested that landing page? What are the numbers? IE: of 100 people who find your page how many of those actually sign up?

Is your site using buyers keywords or could they just be freebie seekers?

Have you been working to add more ways to drive traffic to your optin page?

Thank you very much. All these suggestions point out how little I know about all this.

I do have some statistics of click and the sign ups. I do not have what keyword brought them there, thank you for that suggestion.

I'm not sure what "buyer keywords" are so I will research that now.

I very much appreciate all this because since I have the page and it is already ranked, it appears if I tweak it and work on just that for now, I could go a long way and then if it works, just duplicate it.

This is exactly what I needed, some specifics.

Now, I think I best get off of this forum and get to work on all the notes I've taken from this.

Thank you all for the help. Any other help I get on this post, I will respond to later.

Who knows, maybe, with a lot of work and a little luck, I will be able to report some positive results in a day or so. :-)

Thank you all again and good luck to all of you in all your endeavors.

Yes, a mentor would be great. I'm sure most of the things that are holding me up would only take a minute or two for someone who knows what they are doing to answer. I am a very quick learner and would definitely not waste their time or mine.

    Hey Topkat.

Before you really delve into any market. Do some market research.

Hopefully those programs you have taught you how to do some market research if not check out this post. It simplifies market research but it gets at the heart of it.

Market research is finding a need people have that they "perceive" they can't find a solution anywhere else.

    fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2011/09/24/how-to-create-a-million-dollar-business-this-weekend-examples-appsumo-mint-chihuahuas/

The technical stuff is the easy, but fun stuff to learn.

Good work on taking action though! More action = results.

Oh my goodness! $3000 is a lot of money to spend on internet marketing. What I would do is first focus on your own websites that are hosted on your own account. Take everything one step at a time.

Create a theme for each website. Research your main keyword, and several other related keywords. Use the Google keyword tool. I would start with maybe 5 to 10 keywords.

Be sure to look for keywords that have at least 500 searches a month each. For competition as a newbie, go to Google and look for competition under 30,000 searches. That is a good keyword.

For example, Google your keyword like this, "your keyword"

Now that you have your keywords, you will want to start writing original articles using one keyword per article. You will want to optimize each keyword in every article.

*Each article to be at least 700 words.
*Use the keyword in the title, first sentence, mid-paragraph, and last paragraph.
*Link to your affiliate offer by banners on your site, or a link in your article.
*Wordpress plugins that I use regularly include SEO Platinum, GoCodes, Google Analytics, Google XML Sitemaps, and Yet Another Related Post.

For each article you write, research 5 to 10 more related keywords. Create 5 to 10 articles of at least 500 words (be sure to link back using the keyword in the article on your blog in the resource box). Submit these articles to major article directories like Ezinearticles, GoArticles, Articlesbase, etc. You would also use those Web 2.0 properties to submit your secondary articles to.

The idea of this is to get links back to your blog, and create a following. Remember to use social bookmarks, and social media sites like Twitter, and Facebook. I particularly like Twitter because I follow everyone who follows me.

You could outsource your articles if you would prefer to save time, I like IWriter.

It's a lot of work, and successful internet marketing takes time. It is a business, and I try to keep that in mind with my own sites. Try not to become overwhelmed, and keep track of your links to your blog and articles. Bookmark everything and keep repeating the process.

Soon you will be kicking down the door, and you will get there!

Thank you. Lots of good advice! I do know how to do keyword research. I found one that has over 2500 searches but under 25000 competing websites when you google it. I have accounts at all the article submission sites and am on facebook and twitter. However, I did a certain branding on my social sites for my offline businesses before and so I think I won't all my IM tyoe stuff to them. I'll probably set up a different twitter account.

It does take time and it certainly is another business just like I had off line. Most of the marketing for making money online makes it sound like it is a "walk in the park" and you can start making money immediately. That is so not true!

The difference between this and my offline businesses is that I felt like I knew what I was doing then and feel like I'm just going about this all helter skelter without a definite plan, doing this and that but not any consistent step by step plan.

However, I've gotten quite a bit of good advice here today and am creating my own step by step plan. I work best when I have one clear target and steps to acheive it rather than so many different approaches etc.

Thank you for your help. :-)

Step 1: Choose a single method to focus on (eg Affiliate Marketing)
Step 2: Grab a cheap domain from Namecheap or GoDaddy and get cheap webhosting from a site like Hostgator
Step 3: Setup a Wordpress site on your domain
Step 4: Add content to your site
Step 5: Send traffic to your site (eg through Article Marketing)
Step 6: Monetize your site (eg with an Amazon widget)
Step 7: At the end of each month, review what you did, what worked and what didn't
Step 8: Adjust to focus on what worked best for you
    Step 9: Rinse and repeat

There is absolutely no substitute for experience. You are not going to get everything perfect right away, and you will learn what works for you over time.

The three greatest tools for any newbie are:
    Google
    Youtube
    Wikipedia

Any time you have a question, just jump onto Youtube for a "how to" video, search Google for answers, or if you need a general overview of something check out Wikipedia.

For any method you choose to experiment with, give it at least 3 months before switching to something else.

    Good luck

Yeh, wow on the $3k+ in a short period of time. Definitely stop buying wso's until you are ready to focus on one revenue stream before you try another.

For all wso junkies, there is a membership site called Dpassport.com that you can got loads of wso's for a monthly subscription of $47 a month. This is NOT my affiliate link, so you are free to check it out.

      To your Success,

      Richard

Yes, it is a bit of money. I guess my viewpoint was that I spent much more opening my offline businesses and I was looking for a faster start.
However, it is so hard to determine the cream from the crap (excuse my language).

I am not spending any more money at present other than I joined the war room.

With all the other responses I got on this thread, I realized I already have a lot of resources and I have a start with already hosted domains and wordpress blog and a couple other sites set up.

I will focus on what I've already done and follow the advice I got earlier to add tracking, and tweak the campaign. I'm hoping to report better results in a few days.

Thank you again and best of luck to what you are doing, too. :-)

"... looking for a faster start" instead of the right start is where you made a mistake. Now that you know what you've done wrong, all you have to do is correct it.

As always, fellow warriors have provided quality tips and advice for you. Some of the best tips you've got are:
          1) STOP spending any more money.
          2) Focus on one or two of those programs you have.

Finally, I'd add that you focus on doing it right rather than doing it fast. If you do it right, I assure you the money will come. You'll make money online if you stick around and do what you do the right way.

Remember, when it comes to IM and online business, it's always too soon to quit.

          Good luck

Don't spend anymore money! The war room membership was your best purchase. I agree with everyone who said to pick one project and stick with it until you have mastered it and made money. Then, either repeat or start a new project. Build on your successes. Like you, I am tempted by great sales copy. I have wasted money also. I am older and wiser now!

          STOP BUYING!!!!!!!

If your conscious allows...there are new & old high level trainings available on bit-torrent sites!

But its also takes time and practice. And double think if this is the road you want to go down. Remember, most things and claims your read about making $$$ are exaggerated. Yes people make $, but its damn difficult.

Yes, thank you and you are correct. Once I posted this, I had a major shift of thinking. This is just like my offline businesses. It takes a plan, focus, time, patience and a lot of work but is achievable.

It seems you are exactly where I and many others are, were or have been at the beginning.

We take an interest, spend loads of dosh like you have and then still haven't a clue what to do or where to start. I do hope that the information you have been given on here will help you.

But one piece of information I will give you is this. Like I have read on here you will get conflicting information and we all have our own 'best' thing to do first , second and so on. I bet you wake up tomorrow or the next and find yourself still in the same situation.

Quite simply, you need a person or system to show you in a step by step fashion what EXACTLY to do. It's all very well people throwing all these ideas at you but what are you going to do first? Where will you start? I saw one comment saying get a domain name and stick a Wordpress blog on it. Well if you are new to this, how are you going to do this?

Same with the suggestion about plugins and the suggestion that Wordpress has a Plugin 'thing' on the left hand side. If that was me being told that two years ago I would have thought he/she was talking Klingon!!!

I also wish I had $3000 to spend on being taught how to do IM. I would be a wealthy man by now. A tutor(I refuse to use the word guru as they only apply in Eastern Philosophies)is reasonably inexpensive and for the money you've spent would have you earning twice that money inside three to six months .

That aside and to keep this short, find a mentor/tutor to show you the way. It is the only way to cut through all this crap we get thrown at us and end up forking over hard earned cash for nothing. A mentor/coach/tutor will show you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, etc. You cannot do it without help. Please believe me when I say that. You need help!

I wish I could put links up here because I can give you dozens of sites that show you how to do practically anything on the net for nothing down. Go into every search engine and video place and anywhere you can think of and ask the questions. You will find the answers.

Do you want to learn how to use Wordpress. Easy. Search it on a famous site sticking the F word after it and you'll get loads of sites pop up. There are videos out there on practically everything you need to know.

Want to write an ebook? Easy. I used the G site and various others and wrote a 6000 word 30 page ebook with pictures in half a day. That's what can be done when you set your mind to it and your mentor is breathing down your neck...

So seriously, mate, stop flitting from one thing to the next and concentrate on what you want to do. Then learn it. Just that one thing. Learn a new thing every day, week or month. Focus on one thing. It's the only way!

If you want to talk to me, my details are in my Profile. I charge nothing for my time...

        Best Wishes
        Andy Moore

PS. Sorry for the rant. I get so angry at people being ripped off and told a load of twaddle...

Unfortunately most of the great advice you get on what TO DO comes from our experience of what NOT TO DO :p

I think every newbie internet marketer finds themselves drowning in information when they first start out. One of the biggest mistakes I made was trying to do everything at once rather than just focusing on one thing at a time.

Here are a few more tips to save you a small fortune:

Any absolutely fantastic, must have WSO or software that you are tempted to buy, BOOKMARK instead. Check out the bookmark 24 hours later and see if you still think it is worth getting. Just by making yourself wait 24 hours you will find that you cut down on about 75% of your impulse purchases

Sign up for some free Newbie type webinars with marketers that will actually give you good, useful information for free without a hard sell. I highly recommend Jason Fladlien and John Rhodes for this since they are great at explaining things simply and cover essentials like Backlinking, Content, Product Creation and Copywriting.

I've always loved using step by step myself and find it very effective when teaching others.

Visit Jason Fladlien's blog and get his package of 32 Free Reports (with rebrandable rights)

        Jason Fladlien's Blog

All of his reports are good reading, but for a newbie I highly recommend reading the free reports:
        - Steal This 12 Step Autoresponder Sequence
        - The Secret to Creating 20 Minute Sales Letters
        - Make a Small Fortune with $7 Products
        - Secret List Building Tactics

Hope that info is useful and I look forward to seeing you around the forum

Also if your going to focus on affiliate products be sure to check out the other factors when doing keyword reasearch. There must be sufficient commercial intent and lack of free information available. No use putting in the time and effort when no one will actually buy when you find yourself on top of the SERP's

Very good point. Why would anyone pay for what they can find free unless of course there is some extra. Thank you so much.

Update on what I've done with all this helpful advice:

(I'm posting this because I've often helped people who then did nothing with the information I gave them.)

Thank you to all who have given me help and advice here. I plan on using all of it.

Today, however, I started with going back to what I had already purchased and what I had already created while I was doing those lessons. I applied what I was told here today and have rekindled a whole new interest in my page. I got 21 hits on it in the last hour. Now, I totally realize that is not much of anything, but from nothing, seeing movement has given me much encouragement. I got one person who signed up for my list. So a 1 out of 21 conversion isn't too bad. Now just see how the sales go.

I still have to add the tracking to the site so I know what keywords brought them in but first I have to review my training as I don't remember how to get into the site I created. LOL

That is what happens when you just follow instructions and just do it once and then not go and do it again until you remember it.

Thank you all again. I felt much more focused and working toward a target this morning. :-)

Quit spending money. I know, easier said than done. I am the same way, always looking for the new shiny object, and there are so many of them.

Just pick the one that appeals to you the most and start working on it. If there is anything you don't understand, if support doesn't help you, then ask that question here. There will be someone that can assist you. That is what this forum is all about.

Good Lord, for that kind of money you should have found yourself a mentor, some coaching, one of these, cause having someone look at what you're doing and guiding you is the best investment(personal opinion).

I absolutely totally agree and attemped to get a mentor. I even requested one here. Then, I got a bit impatient, succumbed to some great copy in sales letters and spent the money. :-)

    Hey TopKat,

When I was starting, (and I still do this today) whenever I'd come across something I didn't understand, I would research the heck out of it until my mind was numb. Then when I came back to it a day or two (or a week) later, the information had sunk in and would start to make sense. Don't give up too early.

Whether you understand something right away or not makes no difference. You are absorbing information even when you don't understand. If you keep at it, I promise, you will understand! Just don't give up. There are still things that I don't understand. In fact, I'm struggling with something right now! But I'm constantly researching it and reading everything I can find about it. TWICE!

Another tip: Try to "master" only one thing at a time. You sound overwhelmed. Pick one thing to learn all about and read and research everything you can find on the subject until you feel you understand it. Then you can move on to the next challenge.

One example of me doing that is with HTML code. In May 2010 I knew exactly 0 about HTML code. By July of the same year, I had my first website up. Now, I'm not an expert by any means but I can maintain my site just fine. It's an ongoing learning experience but whenever I have a question I either Google it or I ask someone here.

When it came to making money online, I didn't know beans. I learned the basics of a method that works. Then, I learned about every element of that method individually over the course of time. There is no magic button. Find something that works and just learn everything you can about it.

Take advantage of all the stuff you've bought and go over the training. Take it in. Don't worry about getting it the first or second go around. If you pursue what you want to know long enough, you WILL understand it. I'm living proof of that.

    All the best,
    James

Thanks James. Very helpful information and advice. Yes, I was feeling overwhelmed and a bit chaotic. I like order, I like step by step instructions, I like having a goal and knowing what to do next to reach that goal.

Given what I've learned and advice today, I created a step by step plan for myself for now. I know it does not cover everything yet, but I will indeed keep plugging along. I am not a quitter.

Best of luck in all your endeavors, too. :-)

I've purchased a couple programs already and signed up for a few more, spent around $3000 or so, so far, but in all of them, I get to a point where I don't understand what they are saying and getting customer service to explain in none tech language has been a challenge.
??? $3,000, Holy crap. Either you've bought a ton of courses or you bought some high priced ones. If it is the latter, most of the time those are for people at a certain point that are ready to go the next step, which is why it doesn't make sense to you.

If you have offline business experience, then the first thing you need to realize that online really isn't any different than offline. There isn't some *magic online money machine.*

To make money online, you need to either sell something or help someone else sell something. That's it.

    I dont agree I'm afraid

it is certainly possible to do multiple projects, it is a question of:
Yes, it is possible to do multiple projects, but I don't think it's a good idea to try to learn multiple methods at once.

JamieSEO gave you a great action plan. Pick one money making method (Adsense, Amazon, Clickbank, CPA, your own info product, etc.) Pick one niche. I do think it's a good idea to have three or four sites or web properties in a particular niche since at least one will most likely gain traction over another.

Then you have a benchmark to compare what works and what doesn't.

Once you pick your method. Read all you can about it here. Find a couple of blogs or other resources that cover it and follow those.

But of primary importance, you need to be working on developing and promoting your site(s) every day. If you aren't creating content and building backlinks, you aren't going to get anywhere.

Yes, I believe that was the main thing I've learned today. I was treating this different than any other business I've ever started.

I have changed my mindset and believe it or not, it feels much better now.

Reading all those sales pages of people making thousands and even millions of dollars on what appeared to be auto pilot, I thought I was just missing something. Now, looking at this as another business, I know it will take time so my expectations are now aligned with the reality at hand which is halpful.

    Absolutely! Good for you!

Definitely create a plan for yourself, this is where I made a lot of mistakes. I was tossing my efforts to the wind by not consistently working systematically.

    Stop spending money.

6 to 10 hours of exposure to free content for beginners on YouTube in the following areas will allow you to discern accurately the value any future "paid" programs will deliver for your aspirations.

List Building should be on your list of skills to acquire, BUT it is not the first thing to spend time on studying (for free via YouTube.)

First, you have got to get your head around *Keyword research.

Then, *Traffic generation and some basic SEO stuff.

After 6 to 10 hours of "free" exposure on YouTube with:
    *Keyword research
    *Traffic generation
    *SEO basics
you should be ready to delve into:
    *Building Your List

Additionally, it will benefit you (or any of our fellow newbies) to get 2 to 4 hours of "free" beginner level understanding of HTML and Php.

When you do decide to buy products again, your discernment will be at a very refined level.

I never go for the upsell (at first) just to see how much of a bite the "out-of-the-box" product actually has in the first seven days of applying it as directed. If it sucks, as 90% plus of them do, (from my experience), then I take the refund.

In all fairness, I will say that I have been very satisfied with some products in the range of $37 and $47.
Likewise, like you and most of our fellow newbies, I have been greatly let down by the $97 and above products. (Mostly, because I was clueless as to how to assess their value for my aims.)

In any case, whether it is free training or a paid for product; ferret out a worthwhile review on the subject on the Warrior Forum.

Look forward to hearing about your successes.

    Your fellow newbie.

    What is your product/service?
    Who is your market?
    What is your competition?
    What is your location?
How do folks look for your product/service using Google or some other Search Engine? (use the Google Keyword Search Tool for the key word phrases most often used to find your product/service and use these in your marketing efforts)
    What is your marketing Budget?

Basically these are the same questions you need to ask yourself and then be sure you have thoroughly researched and studied each question to come up with the best reponse. By the way, these are the same questions you would need to respond to if you were opening a brick and mortar business.

Focus on these questions and implement the responses to these on a daily basis and don't get distracted by some other "enviable (or you think) business/get rich quick/better than yours" scheme to make money.

Keep track of your marketing efforts and study the results so you are continuing to do the things that produce SALES results and discard those that don't.

Focus on the sales activity in your business, talk to your customers and determine what they liked about your product, you, and your business and ask for feedback for improvement. Make offers for business and ask for referrals.

Be patient and give it time - even Bill Gates didn't make his billions overnight!

I truly hope this sage advise from a former stumbler, range rover, get rich quick seeker.

Thank you. That is all very good. I'm sure a lot of other newbies will appreciate that too. However, those weren't my particular issues because as you said, they are the same for the brick and mortar business which I I've done.

I knew how to do keyword research finding things people want to buy but that don't have a lot of competition using google keyword tool and the best selling lists form Amazon and Ebay.

Where I'm uncertain is on using wordpress blogs, although I've created a couple and posted on them, it is added the plugins, pictures, opt in boxes, etc. but I now have been told in this thread that I can use youtube to find "how to's" on those things. I also am not comfortable creating webpages even though I have. I can use an editor but do not know html and do not know how to make graphics to make the page look better.

I will keep reading, researching, practicing until from beginning to end I can:
Do keyword research to find a niche, buy the domain name to fit the niche, (I can do these first 2 things), create a wordpress or other website for that niche, connect the domain name to the site, make the site convert to sign ups onto my list and then promote via follow up emails.

I already have article submission accounts and experience with social networking.

So really the only parts I'm missing are the more technical parts of creating a website and connecting a domain to it and then knowing how to put my opt in box on it and make it look good.

I still consider myself a newbie because I have not felt comfortable doing all this but I have to add that all the advice I've gotten here today has really helped.

      Thank you again. :-)

Thank you for the offer. I checked out your facebook page and it looks really nice. I "liked" it. I wish my fanpage looked like that!

I have an aweber account and know how to create the opt in boxes and the autoresponder emails. I have put them on my yola site and my blogger blogs but I don't know how to put them on facebook or wordpress.

But I am learning and I will search on youtube for help now, too.

    Hi TopKat22,

I'm brand new here. I've been trying to make money in a network marketing business, but I am not a salesperson by nature... I'm afraid to scare people away. Don't get me wrong, I believe in the product I sell, but that doesn't mean everyone wants to buy or get into a sales discussion.

So... I've been trying to figure out how to use the internet to bring interested prospects to myself. I came across this website (see my signature below) that has a brilliant training technique because you can make money while you train.

Anyway, you said you don't want to buy anything else, but this site allows you to start a 7-day trial membership for just a buck and offers step-by-step, easy to follow instructions. If it works, the cash flow it generates should more than pay for the monthly membership and hopefully much more! It was started by a 25-year-old network marketing billionaire named Jonathan Budd.

I'll check into it but am already a member of a couple such sites. My situation is that there is always SO MUCH information on the sites, just like on this forum, and I just wanted some simple step by steps which I've gotten mostly what I need here today.

Then when I have a quick question, in the past if I couldn't find it on google, I was stuck. But now, I've been told you can look for it on youtube so that should help.

Thank you for your help. I hope you do well, too. :-)

Making Money On Online Can Be Very Frustrating!

    Why?

    To Many Shiny Objects!

And The WSO Section Alone Can Lead You On A Never Ending Maze Of Financial Downward Spiral!

    STOP IT.

Hey I'm just like you; Maybe worse. I have about 150 WSOs on my Hard Drive as you are reading this.

Make Money with this. Build Your List with that. Here's A Wordpress Plugin that will help you Rule The Digital Word. Well, you get the idea. I was spending way more money than I was making.

I forget where I saw it or read it, but something slapped me out of my Internet Marketing Buying Trance, and it took me back to the basics.

    1. What do I want?
    2. Why do I want it?
    3. What do I like ie (What's my passion?)
    4. Is there any niche that is currently making money in my passion?
4a. If there isn't... Is there something else I'm interested in that is currently selling?
    5. Is there any mentor - or person making money in the way I would
like to make money?(With my passion.)
    6. What am I good at?
    7. What am I bad at?
    8. Am I an introverted type of person, or am I an extraverted person?
    9. Am I a techie sort of person, or am I a non-techie sort of person?
    10. Do I like the idea of being a product creator?
    11. Do I like the idea of affiliate marketing? If so... Which one technique or product
can I focus on in the begining.
    12. What are your goals, and are they realistic?

In other words, sometimes you have to take a step back, and simply ask your self who am I really and why am I doing this.

Little trick that helped me, (and this is how I started to make some sales online.) When you have an answer to those questions, create a seperate Email Account, and buy a whiteboard. Then choose (one) method & (one) mentor... Then write out the steps of that system on the Whiteboard.

And only go to the Email Account that has to do with the project that you are working on. If while working on your project you have to sign up for various other tools and websites to complete your project - only use the New Email account you created for your project. That way you get less exposure to other marketers' offers.

(The Whiteboard will help you to focus on the area that you are working on.)

(And only come to the Warriors forum to get advise on the current project that you are working on. Then once you have your answer, log off and go back and try out some of the advice.)

Unfortunately, not every system is going to work for you right out of the gate.(You already found this out for yourself.)

But I can almost bet money on it; That there are other people making money with the same system that you could not. (This is not because you they are better than you are. It is only because they have found a way to make it work for them.)

You have to fine tune the system sometimes to get the results you are after.

Believe it or not, Most systems can work for you. (I know... I know. You already tried so many.)

Sometimes we just don't give things a real chance. Sometimes we just don't give things the time to mature. Sometimes we have to give things are on little tweaks to get the ball rolling. We want things to happen last week.

It really is all about focus. Don't try 5 different things, and systems. Just focus on 1 niche, 1 technique, 1 system and 1 Teacher.

With all of the methods, systems and products that you have bought, you should have a pretty good idea what you like, and what you don't really like.

Don't choose something based on how much money that you think you'll make. Choose something that you think that your target audience will want, can use, and will profit from.

(It sounds kind of weird, but when you approach it from this angle, something magical happens and people just start to buy.)

Take the focus off of youself and place it on them(Your Target Market).
    You will start making sales.

And if there is anything that you really don't know how to do or just don't want to do; Use Fivver.com - Just search via highest ratings. I mean it's only $5.00 dollars. Just a drop in the bucket compared to what you already spent.

Side Note: Only buy something internet marketing related if it will complement, and will help you to complete your current project. (Meaning; Help You To Earn Money With What You Are Currently Into.)

    Well hope that helps.

      Harold,
That is a really great post not just for me but for so many newbies. I love your list of questions and I will make sure I go over that and have a clear answer.

I started out only going after my passion but did get sidetracked by all the "shiny objects" ;-) as you said. See, in my offline businesses, I never let that happen.

All of these posts today have been very helpful. Thank you again. :-)

I've said this before and I hope it helps. I started off selling on e-bay and in my opinion it is the fastest way to earn money online for a newby. It's so simple just find something of value at a very low cost and sell it on e-bay or other auction site for quick profit. I rarely sell on ebay anymore but I can imagine how you could of easily doubled your $3000 dollars using the simpliest sales method around.

You can start at your local yard sales or pawn shops and before you know it you've really got something to be proud of.

Making sales will only wet your appetite for more money and as your risk tolerance rises you can put your initial investment back in the bank and use your profits to
    start something new.

I guess you really have to find something you love and begin there. Don't get into something simply for the money, but think more of the great things you can do for your family and social causes. I think thats a great place for anyone to start.

Great advice and thank you. I know of 2 women in my hometown who did this (sold on ebay) and both made a living and quit working so they could stay home with their children. So, I know it works. I just don't think it is for me but I do think it might be just right for some other newbies.

Yes, Darren Jacklin always says, you have to have a goal bigger than yourself to really succeed. Family and social causes are great big goals.

Stop buying the shiny objects - I did the same thing looking for the easier, softer way, to make money fast, there is none.
    1. Start with finding a niche.
    2. Create a product or become an affiliate
    3. Create your website and opt-in page
    4. Create a free gift
    5. Find your keywords
    6. Write articles and submit them to an article publishing site (the start of building a list)
    7. Start A Blog ( another list building tool)
    7. Learn other methods to build a list

That is where to start, then begin to learn more.

Focus and stop buying, unless you want to buy some of the stuff I have never looked at LOL

I think you're making two primary mistakes.

#1 You're spending $3,000 on things you don't properly understand.
#2 You're asking for advice from "newbies" on "where to get started".

The solution to #1 is fairly obvious. For #2 I think you need to start asking successful and experienced members where to get started. Advice is usually free. And I assume "newbies" are typically defined as those too new to the IM ropes to hold any credible judgement you could ever find beneficial. They'll typically be as lost as you are and might possibly send you in an even worse direction.

Okay if you're a newbie and you've opted in to a bunch of Guru's lists..make sure that if they aren't providing you with genuine value..to UNSUBSCRIBE.

They're only using you to market to. You want to be on someone's list who you can learn from, but whom is also offering you genuine guidance and value.

Second, you should stick around and ask questions! If you notice to the left of everyone's user name they have a skype icon or another way to contact the warrior off of the forum.

Personally message the warriors who you feel have offered the best information, and ask them to mentor you. And if they are really cool people they'll help you out how they can, but don't abuse it and take up all of their time..because time is money and they have online goals to meet as well ya know?!

Sounds to me though like you're focusing on the details too much. If you already spent $3,000 on Make Money Online (MMO) products then you could have definitely paid someone to set up a website for you, build you backlinks to rank your website for your specific term, or for you youtube video SEO, etc. To show you how to throw up affiliate links etc.

Products and courses are always solid, but most newbs need someone to take them step by step, literally by the hand in order to get it.

So find someone and see if you can connect with them 1v1, kind of like a coach until you start getting the gist of things!

    Hope this helps yo!

Whoa ! Slow down a little. You should start very carefully and slowly from the beginning. Produce content and do more research. Those programs are probably rip-offs. There is plenty of free information out there. Fine tune your goals in stick to one project and if you succeed at that then move on. Don't sell your car to make it work tho!

My advice to you would be to stick with what you are good at and outsource what you cannot do.

You can get a blog installed with plugins for a small feeon places like scriptlance, fiverr and even the warriors for hire section.

Don't let the technical side of things put you off

Hey TopKat22, I'm a newbie too and after a long time of wandering around in the abyss of information overload and running down rabbit hole after rabbit hole I decided to bite the bullet and get a mentor. In addition I purchased some 'done for you' websites - but you got your own up and going on your own so you can be proud because you have at least done what is said all the time and that is 'to take action'. Seems to me that you've got the drive to see it through to success. One thing I stopped doing is getting on the lists of a zilion million people. It destroys focus and just adds to the virtual noise and confusion. Most of those things I got for my email are sitting on my hard-drive unused anyway. Since you've had some success in obtaining addresses, seems to me you are well on your way If it gets too hard there are some good people who will coach/mentor. Check them out on the WF first though.

    STOP SPENDING MONEY!

    Holy cow. $3,000?

    Go back to square one.

    What is your goal?

Are you trying to create a website that converts? Are you trying to sell Amazon products, Clickbank products, etc?

Do you know what you want to do or are you relying on these products to tell you (mistake)?

Figure out what you want to do and then go back and see if anything you purchased can help. Follow the advice you've been given in these threads.

But for the love of all that is good, don't waste another penny...

I'd seriously consider upgrading to War Room member if I were you.

As it has been said in prior comments, it's just a one time fee only for a lifetime membership and you can literally make that money back in your first downloads (because of the great value) but as a warning note... DO NOT get crazy downloading everything you see or you'll be in Information Overload Land before you know it!

Instead of recommending anything to you, the first thing you need to decide is HOW are you planning to make money online.

Everyone of us has its pros and cons, while some people can't do video marketing others can't write copy and so on.

From what you've written here, I believe you already know your stuff. You're what I like to call a 'long term newbie'.

That's the closest thing you can get to 'online success' btw and the only difference between being a newbie and a successful marketer is that the latter takes action, monitors, tracks, tweaks, optimizes, fine points all his/her marketing efforts.

That tip was given to you already but it won't do any harm to repeat it here. Just STOP doing whatever is time wasting and not converting and FOCUS on what is giving results while trying new stuff as well.

By 'not converting' I don't mean money in your bank account, I mean not getting traffic, not getting leads/subscribers/prospects, not getting comments, feedback, etc.

I am a newbie like yourself but I did make money on my first 6 months (several hundreds actually) and I had no list, no subscribers, no product and I did it all by myself.

Is it possible to make money online easy?

It actually IS and not because I say so, but because I already DID IT and honestly it was easier than I thought.

If you have spent as much as 3K already (I'm already past that point but it has been money well spent!) I'd strongly recommend getting at least these services (not mentioning any particular names):
    • Premium wordpress theme (get something you can tweak as needed)
    • Email marketing service (I believe you already mentioned to have AWeber, extra points for that!)
    • Keyword Research Tool (Don't just settle for Google Keyword Tool)
    • Password Manager (I used to remember all my passwords, I have 900+ now...)
    • Get a WP plugin that lets you capture visitor emails without annoying them or at least try not to!
    • Create your Lead Magnet (a small PDF where you solve/eliminate/optimize/teach/etc) something for your visitors

There are of course a lot more services to think about (like membership sites scripts but again, it all depends on what you want to focus on) but these are what I believe the most important.

No matter if you want to do CPA, PPC, Affiliate Marketing, Product Creation, you NEED to have a central hub and that has to have what I just told you above.

I could just go on and on but I'll end up here, the best recommendation I could give for a newbie, is definitely getting a mentor but choose yours WISELY.

Choose someone you resonate with, someone you can communicate with, someone that you like!

If you hate MLM, DON'T take an MLM mentor, if you hate smiling all the time on camera, DON'T take someone that's video marketing based, you get the point (I hope).

I hope this helps and thanks for posting your problem, there are some great bits of advice spread on your thread!

Take care and good luck my friend!

ok, I'm a war room member now. I thought I was the other day but guess there was some glitch in the payment or something, but I am for sure now.

So, I understand there is a lot of great free stuff over there but not to go overboard downloading things.

So, I was wondering if any of you war room members could suggest the best free download and getting traffic to you tube videos?

Target "How to" and "Beginners Guide" ebooks that have been published within the last 3 months (not necro threads with products that may be outdated).

Grab the "Top Wordpress Plugins" and "Best free software" type ebooks from the War Room as well.

Over time you will get a better idea of what you need, but starting out just stick to the basics

Except for spending money on strategies from others, you should also try very moment to learn everything about IM in order to understand more about the strategy you want to take action. Meanwhile, like everyone said, just focus on one way and try to make money. No matter you fail or success, I am sure you will then learn sth.

First thing, That is way to much money to spend on information. Get a refund, Its easy if its at refunds@clickbank dot com Send your order# to them 2days refund. The money you spent should be on web sites. I am just starting out building a list, Here is my landing site systemnewbiefree-ebook dot info So far I have 25 names and made $231.00. Of course I am using pay per click That cost $150.00 So alittle bit of profits, But I get to keep selling and building my list. Also check out systemnewbie dot com will help you out a lot. Thanks Eric PS I have seen some good stuff on here where folks are selling web sites they will build for you. Make sure they are not copys, Google will not like them!!!

Too late to get a refund. Plus, they weren't clickbank products and I wouldn't ask for a refund anyway because these products were good, it was just me not understanding and getting a bit overwhelmed. I've started over one of them at the very beginning as was adviced here and it makes more sense now that I have a focus.

As for what you are doing, very well done. I'll check out your site too. I am afraid of doing PPC because I had a friend who spend a lot of money for nothing because he was too new to know how to exactly do it. I will keep with doing stuff for free for now until I feel more confident about everything I'm doing. This is like starting college all over again. :-)

It is amazing how your viewpoint changes when you have a bit more understanding about something. When I first went through the beginning training videos of the course I purchased months ago, I remembered that each video was really long maybe an hour or two. I have to laugh at myself now as they are each only 10 - 15 minutes long so far. :-)

See that is the difference when you know a bit more. The first time with so many things I didn't understand, they seemed really laborious to get through and thus I thought they were long in memory. LOL

One answer as everyone says. Stop buying stuff. Pick one "mentor" or course only & focus. Also if you have lots of stuff, get organized. Look up Alex Goodall IM-Index it is a free set of folders you can use to classiify and store everything. Another thing to help get orgaized mentally and help to focus is a free couse, simpleology by Mark Joyner. It helps you to keep to the point and not go off at tangents.

If you don't understand the technicalities, I would suggest to outsource.. choose sites like fiverr.com where you can get everything done for a fraction of amount. Thank you for the reply. Yes, that is excellent advice and several people gave that to me and that is exactly what I did.

Since I posted this thread, I went back to the first course and started it over. When I get hung up, (which is what happened before) instead of stopping, I look it up everywhere or asked people on here.

I'm off to what I think is a good start now as I started getting sign ups in just a few days and thanks to something I found in the war room, my site is on page 1 position 1 of google for several major keywords in highly competitve fields in just two days.

Because of kind, helpful, friendly people like you on this forum, I'm actually moving along.

So thanks again to you and to all the people who have helped me here.

Yes, thank you. good advice. I am now sticking with one product and am building my list and am amazed at how well it is doing thanks to all the advice here.

I'm looking at all of this differently now and it has helped.

I am doing everything now from a perspective like I had in my offline business which is: How can I service my customer? How can I give them exactly what they are wanting for free to begin with and then for the more advanced/special premium products, how can I provide the quality they want for the price they want to pay for it?

I'm sure I will keep tweaking this now as I'm still learning but I think I'm off to a much better start this time because of all the helpful advice from nice people like you on this forum!

I really do appreciate it! :-)

Wow... usually I am frustrated by my lack of start up funds but.. $3000???

Sometimes it pays to be dead broke to begin with!

I've spent more than I should have but at least half of it I would say was a good investment. I can't imagine how much I would have wasted had I had the funds to burn..

Like everyone else says- stop wasting and start doing!

I've been at it 3 months, haven't earned a dime, and yet because I've had to basically do everything from scratch with no outsourcing as an option, I've sure learned enough!

I am glad I have been forced to act instead of buy though. Information overload is problem enough without throwing cash at the problem.

Jennysweets, you are so right! I know now the $3000 was a lot. My thinking was in comparison to my offline businesses to start up it was nothing. I'm super glad that I finally started posting on here!!

The best advice I got was to spend just a bit more, one time only, for a membership to the war room on this forum. Lots of free stuff and information, but don't go crazy. The other good advice I got was, pick one thing I purchased and study it until I really get it and pick one method and one product to really focus on until I have it going ok or decide to move to something else rahter than be all scattered all over the place.

In the last 3 days, I've actually gotten sign ups and made a small amount of money. The amount of money really amounts to very little, but the fact I FINALLY got some movement was very exciting!

Looks like you did a lot of the same things I did. The main thing that I have figured out is you have to have a plan and stick to one thing until you make it work even if only a little. You say have an aweber account well I suggest you start using it to build your list. For $3000 bucks you could have built a monster list of customers.

With that money you could have bought into some coaching done by some of the top level marketers that are on the warrior forum. I shall not post names but if you search for them you will see them.

I did pretty much the same thing. I think I spent a good 6 months just on complete overload because I was buying ebooks that were all over the place, taking me into various different directions and I kept on acquiring more. There is a such thing as information overload. I definitely think I suffered from that in the beginning.

I know wordpress is talked about a lot but for some reason, even though I created one, it seemed harder than just creating a website with a WYSIWYG editor myself. I have some great wordpress stuff though if I ever really feel comfortable with it. But for now, I'm focusing just on the course I re-started this week after all the great advice I got here. Thanks :-)

What a difference a week and a lot of good advice and hard work can make.

My site is up, getting sign ups and as of right now, I can hardly believe this, it is page one, number 3 in Google for a keyword that has 1,100,000,000 competition!!!!!

I took a screen shot of the Google ranking this morning as proof because I can hardly believe this. Now, I'll see how long it stays there. But still.......OMG!

Thank you again for all the help. :-)

I think you buy enough data use for your business. So stop it and combine it to your strategy.
You need to find the way suitable with your skills, make a plan base on your favor courses. The more detail you make, the more easy you can do. After that follow it daily. This is not easy but when you find the key, you can open this gate. Start with small goal ex $50-$100 per month and raise it up.
