How To Backup Site and Transfer It

I need to switch my site to a new host, but the problem is my old host doesn't have it on a C-panel server.

This site is using wordpress, so it isn't a simple matter of using FTP to move all of my files.

Does anyone know of a painless way to backup your site (software, method, etc.) when you don't have C-panel?

Often, the hosting company you are moving to will be more than happy to do the transfer for you. Ask them, you never know...

Correct, but that probably won't back up his MySQL database which will be associated with his Wordpress installation.

Correct...OP has only option to contact his web host for entire backup of his website.

How large is your site and how much information does it contain?

If it's a fairly simple site you can just export the database from the existing site (tools/export) - install Wordpress on the new host, install the theme and import the database (tools/import).

It only becomes difficult if you have lots of widgets with different content or if you have custom plug-ins or theme that store their info in the database. If it's just a few widgets - copy and paste the widget content.

I almost always transfer my sites that way and it really doesn't take long.
