I promise you that it is not my fault...

If we cannot blame the guru's, the newbies, or me, who can we blame?

Whose fault is it?

The reality is that when people fail, they look for someone to blame.

And when they succeed, they always take credit for what they have done.

Disconnect!!

Do you do that too? Do you accept credit for success and pass the blame for failure?

LOL

Either we are in control of our lives, or we are not in control of our lives...

If you are not in control of your life, shouldn't someone else be responsible for your failures and your successes?

And vice versa...

If you are in control of your life, shouldn't YOU be responsible for your successes and your failures?

It has been my experience that success always comes to those who "accept responsibility" for all of their outcomes, both positive and negative.

So, are you committed to accepting responsibility for your life, your actions, your successes AND your failures?

Or are you going to continue passing the buck to others?

I was just going to start a thread along the same lines!

    Cut it out people!

If you are tired of people not taking responsibility for their actions then don't answer the thread

If you don't want to be lambasted as a newbie along for the ride, do some research in the forum first

It's a matter of bad genetics, Bill.

I've got an extra chromosome floating around, rearing its ugly head now and again--wreaking havoc on my plans for ultra-success.

Seriously, the gurus feed the newbies exactly the red meat they crave. It takes a while, but sooner or later they catch on. It's a symbiotic relationship: the gurus need the newbies to survive and the newbies need the gurus to fuel their dreams.

          Incorrect... I am an entrepreneur.

Ok, so we register a domain name like PutTheBlameOnMe.com

We set up a small site where people can have a rant and blame me for $1.00.

They get to vent on line for whatever they want to... just to get it off their chest.

          Go figure.

Seriously though, despite all the jokes in this thread, that's a good post, Bill. Until people own their failures, their successes are likely to be very limited and/or far between. Failures are instructive, and in many ways, a shortcut to success.

A failure to own your failures is another failure.

Sadly we live in a world where people do not take personal responsibility. I wish people did. I think we all know someone who treats everyone around themselves like crap and then they wonder why people don't like them or call them on it.

In my years of management I will even say that people don't always take responsibility for the good either. Especially when they don't know it is good. For example someone put candy in a bucket with a sign on the register. It helped sales and weas a great idea. I asked who did it and no one said they did till I mentioned i loved the idea and even then they came forward tentitively. People simply like to fade into the background.

It's part of the reason why most people are followers and not leaders. A leader will choose his own path even if it means going alone.

Both those threads should end with ".....but don't let them off the hook either"

I think it was only a matter of time before you get the "Revenge of the Newbie" type threads. Sometimes a newbie needs to get a reality check, but other times it seems like people are just being self-righteous in their responses.

Like for instance Bill, when you posted your question about "Income Goals" yesterday. Some people chimed in saying "See, if you're thinking about income, then you're not really serious about business". I get the point, but come on...it's a simple question.

I think sometimes people need to just give the newbies a break. There's always a progression in your business, but sometimes you just need to hustle and get your feet off the ground first. And in the process of hustling, you're asking a lot of questions and trying a lot of things out.

lordauric is right. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions and results any more. What ever happens to you in life is due to some decision you made earlier. If you don't succeed, it is due to something you did wrong.

I have been complaining a lot lately about I can't get my sites ranked. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but it has to be something I am doing as no one else has anything to do with it. I make all the decisions. I will figure it out sooner or later, but until then I will whine and keep trying to do more things to get my sites ranked.

If you look in the mirror, and be honest with yourself. Do what needs to be done, you will succeed eventually. As long as you don't give up. My wife tells me that I quit before I succeed. I think there may be some truth to this as I get board if I am not seeing any results. I just have to keep on keeping on, until I succeed. Only I am responsible.

Listening to people tell you it is not your fault is a fabulous way to sell you something that will help you feel better.

And if folks kind of figured out that it was pretty much their choice about most everything in the world the blaming others way of thinking might shuffle itself off to die a quiet death somewhere.

With a lot of these threads I read through them and then look at the sig file of the OP. Often (not always, of course) this might contain a clue as to the purpose of the thread in the first place.

Well, I only said "a lot" of threads, not all of them.

I really kind of had in mind the threads that took the place of the "most burning question" threads from a couple years back.

The ones that are more like "what is your biggest problem with . . ."

        or "the death of . . ."

or the ones about " what is your best . . ."

those last ones are getting so most of the good ideas are already used up, so you start seeing a bunch of secondary things like "what is your best mouse pad cleaning cloth - give your opinion now"

I just figure that someone has launched a new program somewhere about telling people to start asking questions in forums to find out what products to create.

And sometimes there is something in their sig file, and sometimes there is nothing at all in their sig file, just a big blank space where it looks like something could go.

Those kind of questions kind of put me in mind of some experience from my past. I had a guy working for me once who was a 6th grade teacher. His kids were not doing so well with their writing grades, so it was my job to help him help his kids learn to write better.

So I asked him why he thought his kids didn't write so well. There were a ot of things he could have said, like the majority of his students were learning English as their second or even third language. That the kids really needed remediation in their basic skills or that there needed to be more time during the day for critiquing their writing.

But what he told me was, it was their pencils. More specifically the erasers on their pencils. The pencils were cheap and the erasers were plastic instead of rubber, so when they kids made mistakes, they often tore their paper with the erasers and became so discouraged they just quit writing.

And he was dead serious when he told me this.

I see threads and question in forums that remind of things like that.

Not a majority of threads by any means. Sometimes they are questions from people who really don't know what they are asking, but they are stuck and don't know where to begin. And thank goodness they ask questions because it is usually the case that a whole bunch of other people have the same question. I know I have been in tht situation a whole lot of times.

But sometimes, I just look at some of these threads and I just wonder why if they really had that question, why they just didn't go search for it somewhere else and get their issue fixed immediately.

But mostly, I think everybody has a right (within the structure of the forum anyway) to ask questions for any purpose they want. And my opininion don't make no never-mind nohow anyway. But its just nice to talk about stuff sometimes.

            You scamp, you.

I taught and was an administrator for 20 years in schools and a maximum security prison. If I had been in the business world I would have charitably been called a turn-around specialist.

I had the Welcome Back Kotter classes in the Welcome Back Kotter schools in the Welcome Back Kotter districts. Until about 2 years ago I had the distinction of being the only administrator to have taken away a gun from a student in any of the 3 districts where I live.

On the other hand, that is the kind of experience I compare things like learning how to set up an SEO optimized WP blog to. Gives an interesting idea of perspective in the world.

        Being a parent is fun.

We used to have a Jack Russell Terrier that lived in the house with us.

He was the kids favorite buddy.

Now and again, one or both of the older boys would do something wrong, then they would both deny their participation in the thing that was done.

I would get so frustrated trying to get them to tell me the truth.

        One day it hit me.

I asked for them to fess up about five times, and I was livid that someone was continuing to lie, because I knew for a fact that one of them had done it.

So I stopped, then turned to the dog and started hollering at the dog for having gotten the chips off the counter, the chip dip out of the fridge, spilling the chips on the floor at tramping through them, then smearing chip dip all over the couch.

I just stood there and sternly spoke to the dog about his bad behavior, while wagging my finger at him, and I kept telling the dog how I would not tolerate that kind of behavior from him any more!!

The dog just sat there tilting his head to one side, looking at me, with confusion in his eyes.

I continued to speak to the dog in my most stern voice...

        And then it happened...

The boys started defending the dog...

I turned to them and told them to shush when I was getting on the dog, because as I told them, since they did not do anything, the dog was the only one left in the house who could have done it.

They attempted a second defense of the dog.

I told them to be quiet, and continued disciplining the dog verbally.

        Then they broke...

The younger came and pulled my arm... And then said, "Dad, it was me. I did it."

Then the older boy said, "It was me too."

The dog was always useful like that.

We don't have the dog anymore.

Now the cat gets in trouble for things those two older boys do.

        It works miracles every time!!

If your kids are young enough, you might try it out some time...

Can I blame the people who started this blame mentality ?

No matter what I do, they tell me it's not my fault...

Thank you for making the sincere attempt to discuss this. I feel fairly strong about it and
would like to read more. If it’s OK, as you learn more in depth knowledge, would you mind adding more posts similar to this one with more information? It would be extremely helpful and useful for me.

If people didn't have an insane need to blame others, they wouldn't allow their dogs to sit under the table when playing poker.

It's the Government's fault - everything is the government's fault. Everyone would be wealthy, healthy, and happy if we didn't have governments.
