A Newbie Start in Affiliate Marketing

Hello,

I would love some advice on getting started in Affiliate Marketing. This seems to be one of the quickest ways to get my feet wet in Internet Marketing in general. Since I don't have a "product" of my own to market, I will endeavor to market the product of others until I do have something unique to offer.

From what I understand, finding products to market may not be very difficult; the actual marketing process, itself, is the challenge. How should this be approached from a beginner's perspective? Do I create a blog about the product and advertise it in a banner on the blog? It takes time to build a following for or drive traffic to a blog, doesn't it? Should I engage in marketing via a social network platform such as Facebook Fan Pages?

I still need to learn the meaning of some of the abbreviations (industry jargon) related to Affiliate Marketing. "WSO", "CPA", and a couple of others come to mind.

I know that this first post is not very specific. However, I plan to enhance my focus as I learn more and hopefully contribute more than just questions to the community in the future.

Thank you.

You are asking too wide a question. You need to read a good ebook first on basics of AM and then many questions will fall off. On the other hand, many new will pop in, lol ))). I may be able to find a free AM ebook for you. PM me if you want.

WSO - warrior special offer - new product/services launched by warriorforum members usually at a (heavily) discounted price.

CPA - cost per action. You get paid for getting visitors to fulfil cerrtain actions (subscribe to newsletter, complete a survey etc.)

      Thank you Velant!

I'm not able to PM anyone until I reach 50 posts. However, I will try to find an ebook on the basics.... I just purchased what I believe is a WSO from one of the members of this forum. It is a white paper that should assist in finding product niches to market in.

This forum is a great source of free information, the urge to want to jump right in and get started is totally understandable. Although you would be wise to spend a sufficient amount of time reading threads and absorbing all the free information that's available right here before spending any money. If your new the flashing lights and hype can quickly turn to frustration and dispair so the more knowledge and understanding you have the better off you will be.

Once you have a better understanding about the area you want to focus on than its continuous action on your part that will make it work. Try not to business jump from one system to another its better to focus on one technique until you're at least making a few bucks than branch out.

Hope this helps a bit. Good Luck With Everything

You will not need a college degree or anything like that. All you need is a willing mind. The main road to success are focused dedication and a lot of enthusiasm.

          1. Affiliate programs may be the easiest online business to start running. although it doesn't't hurt to do some study so that you can learn from other people's mistakes rather than go through them yourself. In addition, you are likely to pick up ideas that you wouldn't have come up with yourself. There are numerous training products with great strategies to adopt. One of the best ways to do this is look at what people who have used the courses are saying in some of the popular Internet marketing forums.

          2. These programs are a great way to get started in an online business. There are some 'Super Affiliates' who are making fabulous incomes from these programs. Affiliate programs allow you to sell another company's service or product and make a commission on every sale or lead. You don't even need to build a web site or handle the transaction. Your job is to drive traffic to your affiliate link.

          3. An affiliate link is a special URL code that will identify customers coming to the company's site from your advertising. It will be the web site address with a code attached to the end. Some programs also have tiers. That means if someone who is interested in selling the product comes through your link and signs up you will also get a small percentage of their earnings.

          4. To choose a program You should research the popularity of some of your interests. Try to determine if people are buying that product or service online. There are many sources for finding that information including free ones, such as the Overture keyword tool. When you have found an area that is popular then type the subject along with 'affiliate program' into your search engine and see which programs have services or products for that area. You can also use an affiliate program directory.

          5. After founding a program that looks good you should check the terms of the program. Make sure that pay outs are not based on a high commission earning or you may never see your money. Also try to choose programs with high commission rates. Often you will find ebooks and downloadable software has the highest rates as there is no physical product to make or ship. If you are satisfied with the terms then you need to sign up.

          6. The reason affiliate programs are so great for beginners is that you only need to focus on marketing. Many affiliate programs have information on how to market and give you tools such as banners, product feeds and more. You can also look for other information on marketing including writing articles, creating pay-per-click campaigns, commenting in online forums etc. As you gain experience marketing you will make adjustments to your selling and start creating a wonderful income!

Why a large number of would-be online marketers are either unsuccessful or only partially successful is because they lack focus. They jump from one strategy to the next without mastering any. In affiliate marketing, the key to success is planning and focus. Take one strategy and concentrate on it for a set period of time, maybe a month. If it isn't't returning enough then look for an alternative and spend time developing it. If it is working, then look at ways of making it even better. Most people want to 'get rich quick' on the Internet and fail. To make real riches you need to have a strategy, look to the longer terms and stay focused.
Very good and clear explanation, thank you !!!!

One of the drawbacks of affiliate marketing is that nearly everyone is doing it so it is hard to stand out.

You can succeed where they fail by:

    1. Choosing a hungry target audience that others aren't (avoid the Internet Marketing Niche)
    2. Create a unique "brand" for yourself - can be personal, whimsical (animated character) or business (Mine is "The EBusiness Tutor") etc. This makes it easier for people to follow you.
    3. Find (affiliate/partners) or create products to solve the problems of your hungry target audience.
    4. Build relationships with them via blogs, emails, social media and other traffic methods
    5. Share the solutions you have for them.

This is more work, but many people here work for years without success because they don't find ways to be unique. If you can't answer the question, "Why should they buy from YOU?'" then they won't buy.

You can check out my free 300+ page free ecourse, "Internet Marketing 101" for a template on how to do this.

My best results from affiliate websites have been by creating sites around a specific product -- sourcing good reviews and adding additional content. Amazon review sites are a classic example. These sites typically target people interested in buying the product.

Personally -- I have also created sites around (martial arts) and then promoted a martial arts affiliate product. But I've found conversions aren't as good because the traffic is a combination of people looking for information and buying the product.

Both are valid and both work. IMHO you can get more traffic for the second type of site (which can make up for lower conversions) and build a list BUT tend to be more involved that the former.

My email lists (usually promoting affiliate products) and my Amazon sites usually bring the best return on my time/money investment.

Affiliate marketing is no doubt the most popular way to get started online for a number of reasons. You don't need to have a product, deal with customers, and technically, you don't need to have a website, although you should. The best parts are that the income is residual - do the work once and continue to make money from it without any extra work. You can also work around your own schedule.

When you get into affiliate marketing, there are lots of reasons to have a blog on your own domain. First and foremost, it's so that you have control over your content. Free sites limit the kinds of things you can promote, and there's a good chance you could lose your content and be forced to start over again (can be taken down whenever they want). Having your own blog on your own domain also allows you to do things like build a list or sell ad space for more ways to make money.

Having what is called a niche blog (focuses on a particular theme like dating or weight loss and usually contain product reviews and related articles is a long-term strategy that won't ever go away. A blog is an asset that grows in value over time as it ages. They can even be sold like houses on the housing market. There's a lot that can be done with them. Niche blogs are especially great for the holidays where there are tons of products coming out and lots of money to be made.

    Good luck,
    Joey
