Things I've Learned: From One Newbie to the Next

When you are first starting out on your Internet Marketing business, it's quite easy to get super overwhelmed. It's also very easy to trap yourself into the promise of products that guarantee earnings of a certain amount, overnight get-rich schemes, and the like.

I've been doing this for a year now, and feel fortunate that I did not buy into a lot of unnecessary products. But I did spend some money on things that ended up being a waste of time. I also spent money on products that were nothing short of awesome.

I thought I'd write a quick post about things I've learned that I hope all newbies might be able to benefit from.

First and foremost - there is no such thing as a get-rich quick formula. Anything that tells you that you are guaranteed to make hundreds or even thousands of dollars in one day/one week is more than likely a farse - or at the very least, misleading.

I'm sure many of you will already know this (I'm really not trying to undermine anyone's intelligence here), but it is easy to wonder whether or not someone can truly make $4000 in a day after very little effort or time. I'll admit that I've been intrigued at times.

Can it happen? Sure. Some people (very few) can actually make that happen a lot faster than others. For the rest of us, it truly takes hard work.

Second - I can not stress this ENOUGH. As I just mentioned, Internet Marketing takes work. A lot of hard work. It takes a strong commitment to put in the time, the effort, and persistence to get to whatever your goals may be.

You can't learn everything in one night, nor should you expect to make money overnight without putting in some effort. I've been at this for a year and I'm STILL learning things that blow my mind. I am also still working towards my dream income, with no intent of giving up.

Have I reached my goals? Yes and no. It depends on how you look at it. If your perspective of success equates to the amount of money you've made, then no I haven't reached my goal in that respect. But, that's OK.

Where I feel most successful is that I've gained a ton of knowledge that I did not have before. I've realized that there is no one "right" way of doing things. And I am at a point where I know where I want to go and how to get there.

BTW, for many it doesn't take a full year -- so don't let that statement discourage you. I have a family, am a full-time mom first, and so while this is a top priority for me, it's not the most important.

If you don't follow through with something, guess what... you probably aren't going to get very far. I have websites that I started on and haven't touched over time - they aren't making me any money. But then I have sites that I've put a lot of time and effort into, and they've shown tremendous progress - both financially and in rankings and traffic.

The harsh reality is that the business of Internet Marketing is not an easy road where you can jump in and start making money overnight. Well, it can be, but in order to get to that point, there is a lot of sweat equity that must be put in. At least, this has been my experience, and honestly, I've enjoyed every moment (even my failures... it's amazing how much more you learn from those moments).
