Are you an Aussie Internet Marketer?

G'Day New and Experienced Aussie Internet Marketers

Just curious to see how many people target the Australian market, and who has been focusing on the US?

I officially quit my day job and became a full-time internet marketer back in January 2009 targeting US clients, sales and affiliate networks (eg. Amazon). I setup my PayPal account in USD since that was the main currency zooming back and forth and so only had to pay the PayPal conversion fee (2.5%) when withdrawing to the bank in Australia.

It seemed like a smart idea to target the US at the time, given the exchange rate back then was $1.42 Australian for every $1.00 US.

Of course, 2011 has painted a much different picture of my ever so brilliant idea to target the US market with the US dollar being worth so much less

So now that the US market had ended up costing me more than it's worth, I'm in the process of moving more to target the Australian market and also setting things up to get the most money in the bank. I'll create a case study out of it I think so if there is anyone else in the same situation they can have a handy step-by-step plan to overcome the US money sucker

Have you had this problem too?

    Jamie,

I live in Melbourne. My business involves retailing fitness equipment to the U.S. market. It operates on a dropship basis.

I had to go and set up a U.S. company and get a U.S. business bank account and merchant account and a whole heap of other things but, I felt it was worth it.

The U.S. online market place is the largest there is. So, I just located my business where the buyers are.

I know exchange rates have been unkind to Australian marketers and retailers who sell to the U.S. when they receive payment in USD. I've helped to negate this by keeping my U.S. proceeds in my U.S. account and have not transferred funds over here yet.

The AUD is beginning to fall against the USD after it's huge rise. Maybe it'll continue to fall and maybe U.S. profits will look more attractive in the future.

Personally. I'll always base my main online business in the States: 22M potential customers here but 350M in the U.S.

I just want to locate my business where I believe I can can target the largest market and therefore sell more and make more profit.
