Newbies please stop making this one mistake!

I have been on this forum for a while now and I see that some newbies make the same mistakes. Newbies make one mistake that I feel ensures they will fail. What is that mistake?

Looking for guarantees where none exist. No matter how good a system sounds or how much money someone claims you can make they cannot guarantee you anything. You will have to find a system that you feel you can keep up with, but your own spin on, and then scale.

There is no 1 2 3 step guaranteed approach to making money on the internet. I say this because every time I go into the WSO board I see people are looking for this. I used to be the same way and all I did was lost money.

I quoted this as two separate quotes because they are both crucial things for anyone in IM to understand, and I felt having them together diminished that.

The only "guarantees" you can have in IM are:
1 - Someone else has made money with it
2 - You're going to actually put the work/time/money into it that is required.

The first one is a matter of believing it if the seller or poster says it happened. Sometimes people will lie, but that's something you have to learn to see through.

The second one is a guarantee you have to make to yourself. It doesn't matter what product or system you get your hands on - if you are not willing to put into it what it need (time, money, and hard work), then it will fail, end of story.

This point is probably the one most missed by IMers in general. You need to find a system that plays to your strengths and doesn't rely on your weaknesses. For example, if you are a horrible writer but know the coding required to build websites, it would be a poor choice to try to do article marketing (unless you plan to outsource all of the writing), but you could build websites for others.

However, with every system you find, there is always room for change. putting your own spin on your work can be the difference between total failure and massive success.

Yes, all caps titles are not exactly preferable, but it doesn't change that the OT has made a couple very good points

So true. The only real guarantee you have is to do some of your own testing.

The only guarantee that I have found in life is... work. I have never seen an easy 1-2-3 steps to get rich, well except for the lottery but the chances of that are a million to one. But thanks for the insight and I will keep my nose to the grind.

Well, you can make a guarantee, if you offer coaching and you stick with the coaching until that guaranteed is fulfilled. That could work.

The problem with that is that it puts no responsibility on the client/student. If the student doesn't put what they learned into practice, then the "guarantee" will never be fulfilled.

I agree. I think the problem tends to be when someone wants a guarantee regardless of how much work and effort they actually plan on putting into the system/product/resource.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, most newbies believe that making money online is very easy because they ignore the truth. This is why they believe in the sweet lies that promise them success without suffering…
Making money on the internet depends on so many things that the truth is that internet marketing is very complicated. You have to learn many lessons until you’ll finally manage to succeed.

I totally agree with this. There is no guarantee for success in any field that a person may want to venture in. I wouldn't say that this "mistake" is only for the newbies, since we can't blame them if other people are "good" in persuading newcomers to try and purchase a "sure" success program or software. If you have observed, most newbies are excited, desperate and some are exploring new fields to do. Excited because they want to earn their first money online and would like to have decent money from doing online works. They are mostly seduced by the idea of earning money in a short period of time or earns huge money in a span of weeks or months. They usually fall into this kind of "idea" that they end up discourage and disappointed that will eventually results to their giving up and quit in the IM business. Also, some of them are into a desperate situation, such as in need of money as soon as possible. They have this concept that they can earn money through working online quicker than having a job, and in addition, some of them usually think of the IM business as an instant money work, which is definitely NOT true. And lastly, some of them are just trying to explore the new world of IM business that most of them are not passionate and determined enough to stay long, as they will just try to test the water if they have the drive or the interest to pursue.
I would say, for newbies and not so newbies who are here in the IM business, always have in your mind, that whatever we do, there is NO SHORTCUTS, NO GUARANTEES and NO INSTANT results. It takes time, determination, hard work and perseverance ( I hope I haven't miss any) to fully attain what you really want to achieve in life.

This thread is spot on, you generally have two aspects that will determine failure or success in IM or any business and that is - action taken + the person taking the action gets the result. There is no getting round the individual, this is why it is difficult to guarantee outcome. How the person takes action is a variable that can change the outcome.

    Yes,

Literally, you will make your own success. As well as, you have to stick with an idea and not to stretch out to various methods. Keep at something until you see a return!

im pretty sure this is true! when i heard this advise in IM forums i was eager to start internet marketing and build a list and earl a lot of money. but man it was suicide, i never thought it was this tough. im sure there is a way around it but i guess i have to figure it out and find my own path to success. i just keep on learning and tweaking my business plan. and i hope il get there by the end of this year.

This is very true! Something may not work 100% for you but you can still learn something from it. My online career has been putting pieces of what I've learned here and there and carving out my own path that works for me.

Something else that's worth pointing out is, just because something worked once to make money online doesn't mean it always will. I think it's important to not put all of your eggs in one basket and have several types of income streams. I know the Google Panda update killed some people's business plans. A good lesson in having a diverse business plan.

    Sure there is.
    1. Get something people on the internet want
    2. Sell it to them for more than you paid
    3. Return to step 1
And now here come the nitpickers to say some people can't do step 1. Or step 2 is not so easy. Or whatever.

But if you repeatedly get things and sell them for more than you paid, guess what? You are guaranteed to make money.

You can make all the excuses you want, it is a simple 1-2-3 process... if all you want to do is make money.

What isn't simple is all the other stuff people bring into it, like they only want to work this many hours, or only this time of day, or they only want to work with this kind of product, or they only want to sell to these people, or they want to make a specific amount of money, and when you put all that stuff together...

Well, you find out that it's damn near impossible to find athlete's foot products people on the internet want, and sell enough of them at a high enough price to make $35k a month while only working Wednesdays and Fridays between six and eight in the morning.

So something's got to give. You might not get everything you want NOW. You need to set some priorities.

Thanks for this.. I'm still new to all this (around 3 months) and have built a couple of Amazon sites but still find myself making these mistakes. I AM trying to weed them out though..

      Thanks for the reminder!

The only problem would be consistently finding such products or creating your own. There is alot of prep work that goes into it that will determine success or failure.
