How do i add a search box to my website?

Hello everyone,

I guess my question is in the title, i'm trying to figure out how to add a search box/bar to my website.

Not a Google bar or any search engine bar, just something to make it easier for a visitor to find what they are looking for in my site.

What do i need to do?

Thanks
Zena

Are you using a WordPress website? If so, this is VERY easy - just a matter of installing one of the many site search plugins. Many WP templates already come with a search box (but obviously this is not the case for you even if you ARE using WP).

For a regular site, I'm sure it's fairly straight-forward as well (and someone else will almost certainly lend a hand).

Google Custom Search - Site search and more

This is the info on the google one. Not sure of all the details but basically it would set up the code to search just your site.

I have seen that before, but doesnt that just add a search bar that takes you to google?

I didn't want that. I need them to be redirected to my site after typing whatever search word they are looking for.

      But thank you

it can't be possible with static website. You need to have database driven website for adding a search facility in your website. Website made using php, java or asp.net.. not just HTML.

I don't really know what you meant by static website. I use Webpage Maker.

So an html alone wont do it?

              Thank you

I think you can have the results show up on your page. You should look into it more because I have seen sites that use it before and was not taken to google itself if I am remembering right.

Most sites should come with their own free search bar, if not I'm pretty sure you can get google search installed on most sites. Good luck!

Most of the search plugins are kind of useless(at least the free ones I tried). You should really look for a premium one.

Read this it may help as well. It talks about sending a query to google but getting the site itself to show the results.
