Best way to learn Wordpress/Online Marketing

Hi all, I've been aspiring to be a successful online business man for years and the second I discovered this site I was hooked. Of course, to be an online entrepreneur, knowing how to build/work on a website is a vital skill.

I decided to start investing all my time in mastering Wordpress as I see it's one of the more beneficial to the online marketing sector of the business, what would be the best and most efficient way to learn Wordpress? Buy a book? e-book? Look for tutorials?. I think I am also going to buy the e-book "from newbie to millionaire" by christine19 in the WSO section, based on the reviews its 500 pages of gold, equipped with everything you need to know. What do you folks think of this plan as a start?

Any feedback at all would be EXTREMELY appreciated, as the sooner I become financially free, the better it is since my goal is to get rich young, I am 20 years old and I have a written goal of achieving financial freedom by the time I am 23. I believe with serious dedication I can make it with the help of this forum.

I really thank those of you who were able to give me good advice.

Sorry for a stupid question, but why you just don't start from here? WordPress has a very intuitive interface and it's really easy in use. Simple install one blog at your host and start using it. If there will be any questions, you will also find the answers in the standard docs and FAQ's at wordpress.org which is a hugest source of WordPress knowledge I know about. There is nothing to pay for - all information is free.

Welcome OP. I commend you for wanting to be financially free, that’s a great goal to have. However, in order to reach that goal, change your focus ever so slightly to what you can offer of value to others online, and work towards achieving that aim. Start by getting a background of which aspect of the online sphere is of interest to you, then look to learn what is required to offer value within that sphere.

Oh alright absolutely, thanks guys, thanks cyberSEO i'll definitely check out wordpress.org and learn how to master it myself there. Anthonyb says to change my focus ever so slightly to see what I can make valuable to others. We'll, I don't want to just learn how to make money, then teach other people how to make money and make money only from doing that. What would be some other good examples? like offering really good and useful content?

        This is very wise.

If you're completely new to internet marketing, the two key markets you'd be very well advised to keep well away from, for the purposes of what you yourself promote and earn money from, are (i) anything to do with "making money online", and (ii) anything to do with "internet marketing advice".

I know it sounds kind of "trivially obvious", when you have absolutely no experience of either, yourself, but believe it or not, I think the commonest single mistake that newcomers to IM make is starting out in one of those two "niches". Many people do contrive to ignore about 500 other niches, get involved with one of those two, and then wonder why the success-rates are apparently so low.

As for learning Wordpress, it's actually very easy. Your hosting plan will almost certainly have a one-click Wordpress installation ability, and Wordpress is one of the easiest platforms to jump in and start using. You can change your site's appearance very easily by using themes, and more in-depth modifications can be done by editing the code from within the Wordpress dashboard. Just jump in, and you'll quickly see what I mean.

That's great, you have found that online marketing has given you the "spark" to take all-out, massive action.

Learning to build Wordpress websites is a useful skill, but BEFORE you do that, a more useful skill is to plan and understand what business you will be in.

Wordpress, blogs, email marketing, even the internet itself are simply tools - you still must put together a sound business which means you need to understand:

    1. What you market you will be targeting
    2. How you will offer value to that market
    3. Confidence that they will buy what you offer
    4. Brand yourself, your business and your products as uniquely valuable to that customer base

Once you are clear on your business and method of monetization, then blogs can be a terrific way of generating traffic, creating a relationship and brand with your market and even as a method of creating static, sales conversion pages.

Just don't make the common mistake that the internet itself IS the business, you still need to create a business and then apply the tools available to ramping up traffic, sales and profits.

WordPress is AWESOME (and yes, I am very biased. lol).
The WP Codex is a great source of info but its pretty dry and boring if you ask me. You might find it more helpful to take advantage of all the free WordPress tutorial video sites out there.
Just try a search for "free WordPress video tutorials".

But - as someone said - it IS just one piece of the puzzle (a big one perhaps, but still other important components).

      Best of luck!

I strongly suggest you consider buying this WSO offered by Istvan Horvath: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...void-them.html (NOT an affiliate link).

Istvan is highly experienced with WordPress and I'm sure his report will prove useful to you.

I would also like to highly recommend to you a series called WordPress 101 Tutorial Videos. These videos are meticulously scripted, narrated and edited and will be automatically updated to keep up with the latest release of WordPress. I give them with all my WP installations, but this recommendation is NOT an affiliate link.

Wordpress is my favorite platform for building money making web sites. There are a lot of great free tutorials on YouTube you can check out.

Of course, tutorials work best when you are doing a project with the software, so decide what site to build first and go for it.

  • The most important thing you can learn about online marketing has nothing to do with ONLINE.

Marketing is marketing. You need to learn about Human Behaviors and Copywriting.

Learning Wordpress means little in this equation. If you want to learn WordPress... install it, and read the docs they provide. It's pretty easy to catch on.

I was about to respond but IMIQ summed up what I would say. Wordpress is simply a tool to deliver a marketing message. In the Market - Media - Message marketing triangle, wordpress is just a component of the media.

I'd add you want to get an understanding of market, niche and keyword research and how to use the information you learn. When I consult with new client, I start by asking, "Why should I buy from you?" and "Tell me about your customer and what are their needs and pain points? How does your product meet the needs and reduce the pain?"

learning Wordpress is a good skill but from the standpoint of where you should spend all your time as you start up your business, it's not where I'd recommend you devote your time. That's akin to starting a business by spending all your time learning about how to properly prepare and format a postcard for direct mail - a useful skill but a misplaced priority (unless you're selling postcard marketing services).

I recommend Unstoppable Affiliate by Andrew Hanson and Josh Stanton. Once you learn all the ins and outs of Wordpress, I recommend making use of the upcoming holiday season and getting ranked for stuff that either hasn't been released or advertised on t.v. yet. There is often a lot less competition, which means less work. The sheer volume of traffic will keep the money rolling in, and you will see faster results since people start shopping online earlier. Now is the time to get going.

    Good luck,
    Joey

Learning wordpress is a great place to start, but I suggest you also research this forum for advice about how to choose a profitable niche (this is what your Wordpress blog/site will actually focus on). If your goal is really to get rich, you need to choose a good sized market to be in.

Once you pick your market and have mastered wordpress, focus on making a name for yourself and branding. It's helpful to look at what other quality sites (including community sites) and blogs are doing and model some of their techniques.

    Hi

You want to make money...so perhaps you want to be a successfull marketer/entrepreneur not just a successful site developer - with wordpress.

I suggest you spend your time more on building ur business, than just to build a webpage.

anyway its great that you have a BIG and Written goal at this early age.

    All the best

Haha this is the beauty with WordPress, you can build a website very quickly.

In terms of online marketing it is very similar to offline marketing in that you provide a load of content to an audience and develop relationships with that audience in order to make them buy from you.

A blog is a very powerful tool for the marketer (online or offline).

I don't like the title of the thread... kind of makes one think that "online marketing" is synonymous with "wordpress".

Those are two very different skills - I know of many, many successful bloggers who are masters of WordPress yet they are not interested in "online marketing".
And, on the other hand, I bet many successful online marketers made it without ever touching WordPress.

You don't have to "master" Wordpress to have a successful business online - unless, of course, being a Wordpress master is your business. You just need to know enough to make it do what you want to do.

And I'll second Annie's recommendation. Pick up a copy of Istvan's WSO. It will save you a lot of grief.
