Got content, now I just need help setting up my website!

Hey there,

Before I start off, I want to thank everyone in this forum who helped me in my previous post and for continuing your strong contributions to newbies to solve their problems.

Anyway,

Recently I have gotten all my content taken care of, I even use listwire now which is a free autoresponder and its awesome! Right now, I just need advise on setting up 3 sites.

One of them is my main personal site which is more like a profile site, information database with links to all my other current sites and a blog. The other 2 are very different niche sites.

So I am just wondering, what is the best way to set up these 3 sites? Should I set up the 2 niche sites as individual paid domain .com sites with squeeze pages and my profile site as a weebly and free one?

Or do you suggest I get all 3 of my sites paid, I am a guy who likes to cut cost, sorry for my thriftiness!

Do you think there would ever be a difference if I get it for free and if I get it paid in terms of search ranking, popularity and etc.

I need suggestions on how to start up with my:
Profile site (ww.brandonhuang.com) and 2 niche sites.

If there is any suggestion please suggest me based cheap offers and recommendations!

I'll chime in to say that it's always better to have a legitimate domain that you own, both because you have control of it and because web users will take you far more seriously. A domain is one of the cheapest investments in internet marketing. It's not the place to cut corners.

Your website is sooo... nineties

Nobody puts a direct link to their email (in a mailto anchor link) because:
- all the spammers will harvest it
- it wants to open my non-existent mail client
Get a normal contact form.

Nobody really cares about your stats. Keep it for yourself...

It is business, I assume, since you are posting in a business oriented forum.
Businesses have overhead (expenses). Domains and hosting are among those.
If you are only doing it as a hobby - it doesn't matter whether you have free or paid domains/hosts.

I wouldn't do business with anybody that is not able to have their own domain and hosting. I don't care how you rank in search engines, to be honest I don't give a sh*t about it. And you shouldn't either. Because sites are made for people not for (search) engines. I simply don't trust you if you are not professional when building your site. It's about trust and image of yourself.

And a final advice: if the niche sites are NOT related to your main site/profile/niche... do not link them all together. Think about it - if I find you when looking for an animator and you have a link going to a niche site that is trying to sell viagra... you lost me for both 'businesses'

  Hate to get off topic but I just read ISTVAN's latest blog post about comment spam and a new WP Plug-In. It was outstanding! Loved it.

  I was just wondering since I wanted to sell my products, I am looking for an account to receive money but I am confused as there is a debate about paypal and moneybookers. Should I use moneybookers because of the cheap rates and the broad choices of ways to accept payment or should I stick with paypal since more people are using it? By the way, it is allowed for paypal to transfer money to moneybookers right?

  Maybe I should just get a facebook or twitter for my profile thats easier, since everyone does it (professionals, businesses, etc). Thats just easier for me and register the other 2 sites. I want to have my other 2 niche sites which are health related to be registed and the cheapest, I think is bluehost (correct me if I am wrong) maybe?

dont try to do it yourself. your have to hire somebody else who is a professional website designer. this is a very amateur mistake.

So are you all saying that using Wordpress for a blog site, or 1and1 as a cheap alternative to spending big money on his first site (my first real product site with merchant account, payment gateway, shopping cart, etc was over $2000...) is a bad decision?

Most people don't have that kind of money to throw around when they are starting out. Just my 2 cents :] Nothing wrong with cutting corners if you do it intelligently. But definitely buy your domains!

I don't think anybody has ever suggested to spend $2,000 just to start a website. You either misread it... or just wanted to post about your expenses

Here is what I say:
- buy your domain
- have your own hosting
- install the free WP script
- get a free theme and make a good looking web site (actually, there are quite a few free WP themes that look better and are more functional than many "premium" themes!)
- add your content
- drive traffic

Btw, ww.brandonhuang.com (I didn't want to link it, its not a typo) is just an example I am putting in... Erm, turning that into a facebook or twitter. That would be easier I guess.

Anyway,

I have everything covered from content (I keep in my pendrive) and I do know how to design my website (even if I don't, I have my offline friends to help out)

QUESTION!
1) I just need to know how to sell my stuff now
2) I want to know whether I should be using paypal or moneybookers
3) Which site is the cheapest for web hosting + domain? (hopefully bluehost thats what I heard of)
