Best Way To Drive Traffic?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any ideas on how to drive traffic to a new movie site? I've been building backlinks for quite a bit but I have yet to see any results. Do you think advertising on FB would help in anyway?

Since this is a moviesite, I'm not sure if conventional marketing approaches would help such as FB marketing ... etc would help. Guess I took the plunge too quickly without first thinking about the strategies

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Do you own the content?
Why would someone want to visit your site?
Why or how is your site better?

If you can honestly answer that... and why you are somehow better than the competition who has deep pockets to advertise then maybe it is worth driving traffic too.

Bottom line is you are in a saturated niche and there are already plenty of competitors.

Your best bet is to pick a less saturated niche.

Deep pockets will simply BUY the spots ahead of you.

I'm sure that is not what you want to hear, but if you don't own the content then you have no chance in that niche.

These kind of threads are quite tedious.. I literally just answered this same exact question in this same exact section of forums.. The search button is your friend.

To avoid typing the same exact thing again, I'll just link you to the thread where I just posted my response.

Are too many tipes of driving traffic...so you should not ask which are the best , you should first ask which are better for you.
You want free traffic or you want to invest money?
If you are prepared to invest some money you should read a course about adwords advertising , or facebook because its bad to start on your own without knowing the basics of both.
So instead of asking what method is best , learn some , test them and figure it out yourself because people can be wrong and is better to trust yourself.

    Hi - 3antz

Yes you are in a competitive niche, but you can still get good traffic to your site.

I've done a lot of testing, and I have found that if you concentrate on building a list of interested people, you will always have a successful business.

Now since you're niche, has something to do with movies, I would concentrate on Social Media to build your list.

Are you a movie reviewer? If so, make a Facebook fan-page dedicated to the latest movie reviews, and keep posting your reviews about different movies.

Then once you provide good content, most of your visitors will gain trust in you, and then it will be easier to run successful marketing campaigns and promotions.

Youtube - why not make some videos of you giving movie reviews, with a link to a squeeze page so you can get their name and email address.

Look for ways to use sites like twitter or flickr

These are just a few ideas I have

    Hope this helps!

    To your Success

firstly thank you all for your responses.

I should have mentioned this upfront, this is a movie streaming site that I am working I have considered facebook and twitter but hesitant to start because well ... it's a streaming site and there is a possibility they could have it removed although it wasn't specifically mentioned in the T&C.

For sites like this, I doubt article submission or press release would be applicable, that leaves me with very few options. I do not mind spending a little on advertisements, but will adwords or fb ads allow?

I've done bookmarking and backlinking still not much results yet.

Start slow.... You can go to yahoo answers and search for people looking for movies.... Or go to Movies Forums and Interact with them and advertise your site.

    Hello 3antz,!

Two of the best ways to get traffic is commenting on related blogs and especially the high traffic ones and also hitting the topic related forums. Don't spam, participate honestly, use good anchor text with your keywords and you will get traffic.

One more technique would be word of mouth marketing, encouraging your users to invite their friends to see your application or site is not as easy as you think. The scenario must be compelling enough for your users to send invitations on your behalf, and the invitation itself must be compelling enough for the recipient to convert.

Question isn't will it work on facebook. The question is why wouldn't it. Don't the people on facebook watch tv too. The other thing is you need to think about is that just getting backlinks from forums and blogs. Unless you are giving them a reason to want to click over to your link.

What you need to make sure of first is your main target keywords. You want them to be low competition but high traffic keywords. This way you can take advantage of the all mighty free traffic source. Which in turn gives you a much better ROI in th elong run then having to pay for traffic. So make sure you have done your keyword research first. Then once you have done that properly start building backlinks to your site. You might also think about picking up the Backlinks from hell course that come out as a wso not to long ago. It will help you better understand the types of backlinks you should really be getting instead. So you do not doom your site from the start.

    That should ring alarm bells.

    Either your links suck.

    or

    Your links suck......

If you're not getting traffic and you've done a lot of link building then you've been getting links from all the wrong places.

Thanks all, a lot of great leads here. Appreciate all your responses.

Yes, I might be building all my links at the wrong places. It was done via a tool and I noticed some of the links are not even related. I suppose manual link building would be better than the automated ones?

I will try out blog commenting, worth of mouth, as well as forums.

I still felt facebook ads have a better penetration rate just that all videos are linked to videos uploaded by people like the sorts of megaupload. The last thing I would want is to be banned by FB since I have a few campaigns running for other ventures.

You could also try some CPC advertising through Google Adwords or even Facebook to increase targeted traffic quickly. This will cost some money but will show you if your website will actually earn money.

The best way is through JV's or through the tedious process of building a list. The only other comment I'll make about traffic, after all the expensive and non-expensive stuff I've bought, NO ONE is an expert.
