POLL: Average Open Rates for a Mailing List? Includes published Open Rates stats

The Money Is In The List

Yet, most people struggle with getting people to open their emails.

I have several lists...
  • One list gets an average "open rate" of 45%.
  • Another has an average of 25% "open rate".
  • The third list generates an average "open rate" of 20%.
  • My fourth list opens so low that it reduces my global average "open rate" to 16%.

Here is an "open rates" graph produced by Aweber in 2006:




Aweber later stated that the average open rates in March of 2008 was 13.6%.

The numbers were looking up in January of 2009 as this screen shot indicates:

So my question is:

How well are your lists doing when it comes to Open Rates?

    My list currently has an open rate of anywhere from 18-30% however it is still a rather new list. Plus I just changed how I bring in subscribersso the numbers have actually started to increase these past few weeks.
